Nothing like this Vetiver compared to the 2003 version from the same house. It’s a classic, elegant scent that upon opening recalls fragrances of its era, such as Dior’s “Eau Sauvage”. I’d describe it as green-spiced: a fresh citrus opening with aldehydes and lemon that fades within an hour. Then comes a vetiver that isn’t as clean as Guerlain’s, but rather earthier, blended with jasmine and cinnamon, adding a pleasant sweetness without excess. The quality is notable; remember, Lanvin was a great brand back then. It doesn’t smell dirty or harsh; those unfamiliar with vetiver will feel comfortable. They could have given it a more poetic name, but it’s not a “soulless” perfume. Jasmine, oakmoss, cinnamon, and leather notes mark the entire development, especially the jasmine. Lanvin did a great job; it doesn’t seem like a barbershop fragrance, but more linear and simple. What I like most is the leather and sandalwood note, which leaves something warm and sexy on the skin. Recommended for vintage lovers, but it doesn’t seem outdated thanks to the natural notes we now enjoy in niche perfumery. Forget the name Vetiver and approach it thinking of woods and a certain warm sweetness from sandalwood or cinnamon (at times, it reminds me of a Nº 5 Cologne…). According to other sources, the notes are: top with aldehydes, bergamot, orange, petitgrain, rosemary, and lemon; heart with clove, iris, jasmine, laurel, rose, ylang-ylang, and cinnamon; base with Russian leather, labdanum, moss, tonka bean, vanilla, Java vetiver, cedar, and sandalwood. It doesn’t fall short on notes. By the way, waiting for Fragrantica to upload the photo, it’s an octagonal bottle with a black cap very much in the Lanvin déco style. Best regards.
