Descripción
Saharian Wind by Mancera is a fragrance from the Leather family, designed for men and women. Launched in 2020, the nose behind this creation is Pierre Montale. The top notes reveal spices, leather, bergamot and pink pepper; the heart unfolds cypress, lavender and valley lily (lily of the valley); while the base notes settle on a woody register with tobacco, amber, vanilla, patchouli and white musk.

I love leather fragrances! I have several like Ombré Leather by Tom Ford or Wind Wood, but this Mancera beauty has a spectacular citrus and spicy opening. The leather is exquisite, the lavender gives it a fougère touch and the blend immerses us in desert sands, with earthy touches and the elegance of an oriental bazaar. It’s singular, versatile if not overdone and generates many compliments. Along with Vetiver Sensual, it’s the best of their 2020 collection. Ideal for leather lovers. Note: it reminds a bit of Andy Tauer’s ‘Air du Désert’ in a light version.
I got it alongside Hindu Kush. The opening of Sahara is spicier and less intrusive, with a trail that smells good. It reminded me of Andy Tauer’s ‘Air du Désert’, a light floral version, though nothing quite the same. It can be worn all day: salty breeze, dry, spicy, with floral touches of lily and lavender. It goes well for evening dinners, relaxed walks or semi-formal office use; it’s pleasant and not intrusive. It brings me memories of ink drafts. Before buying the big bottle, test first; in my case, it gets used up very quickly, more than ten sprays per use. I like to test them before bed and after a shower to see their evolution. It’s like being in an oasis in the middle of the desert surrounded by flowers and sea breeze.
I pulled out Sahara Wind alongside Hindu Kush… The opening of Sahara is spicier and less intrusive, but its trail smells good. Simple, projects strongly and within ten minutes smells just like the Off repellent from my country; it sticks to the skin, only projects when you move and is very soft. I didn’t like it, although I adore Mancera and Montale. The scent isn’t bad, but for that I use Off and pay a tenth of what this perfume costs, hehe.
I know Mancera and Montale polarise opinions, with as many lovers as detractors and valid reasons for both. As someone who likes to take a stance, I feel compelled to offer my view. I’ve tried several Mancera scents and confess I always find something captivating. I won’t deny some seem synthetic, one-dimensional or unbalanced, but the key is understanding the creator’s intent, accepting their limitations and deciding if they fit. Saharian Wind is different: not overly risky, but a leather with very attractive green and spicy notes. The leather, cypress and lavender accords are clear, with amber and musk nuances that make it clean and amiable. It’s dense and fresh, with a consistency almost like chewing gum, lasting over seven hours with pleasant bursts on mild autumn days. In short, it’s a bright artificial leather, sharp with green touches and pointed lavender and cypress, with light sweet and clean nuances. I don’t use it often, but I enjoy it greatly every time I wear it.

This perfume is too masculine, highlighting the leather, bergamot and lavender. In the base it turns sweet and musky, with that characteristic white musk of Mancera. I recommend testing it before buying, as it reminds of vintage perfumes. Years later, when testing the Habit Rouge Privé, I noticed it resembles it quite a bit in that vintage leather and slightly dirty vibe. Recommended 100%, but it must be tested. Clearly not for children, and if you like Hawaï, this isn’t for you.
Smells like a man, not a lad. The first thing you notice is leather, bergamot and lavender. In the dry down, it turns sweet and musky with that signature white musk of Mancera. I recommend it 100%, but test it first as it has a vintage vibe and reminds me a lot of the old Habit Rouge Privé, with that dirty leather feel. If you like Hawaï, forget this; this is for adults.
