This is my first encounter with a Guerlain fragrance, and as they say about their classics, wearing them is like travelling through time: a nostalgic bath in the dressing room of a Parisian lady from the Belle Époque. I love that ancient fragrances still exist in almost their original form, although I agree that their value today is more historical than practical. Après L’Ondée has been a history lesson and has shown me that reformulations are not always bad. I cannot stop comparing it to Nuée Bleue, which could be its grandchild and belongs to Maison Violet, founded in 1827. Without losing that melancholy, Nuée Bleue is a very contemporary powdery iris, beautiful in its own right and much more crafted and complex than this museum piece. Perhaps there would be no Nuée Bleue without Après L’Ondée, so although I would not buy or wear it, I am grateful for its existence.
