I haven’t tried the original, so this is only about the 2021 formula. At first, it smells strong, like a bag of makeup: lipsticks and compact powders. At times it recalls Narciso Rouge with that waxy and powdery scent. Then it turns sweet due to the vanilla and petit grain, settling into a woody iris with balsamic galbanum. The projection is a soft cloud that lasts about eight hours, dropping to skin-level by the sixth hour. I’ve really enjoyed it; it makes me think of Saint-Exupéry flying at night over Marseille. Although it’s adapted for today, it retains that vintage dressing-table scent that other versions lack. It’s cool, feminine, and has modern glamour, ideal for mild days. Pleasant: 8/10, Interesting: 6/10, Versatile: 7/10, Original: 8/10 for being the direct heir to the galbanum/iris blend.
On my skin, galbanum dominates everything. Most people find it strange and ask me ‘what do you smell like?’, but I love it. For me, this one, Vol de Nuit, and Sisley’s Eau d’Ikar are my favourite galbanums because they are so recognisable and persistent. If you don’t know it, it’s a good way to get into it, especially on skin, because from my experience, it doesn’t sit well easily. It’s very green, potent, and has a bitter touch.
I’m talking about the previous version, which I adored, but the current one I was gifted has lost all its potency. Now it smells very subtle and I have to hunt for it with my nose, so goodbye to the old one. For those who don’t know the original, they might like it, but for me, the new version says nothing. As I always say: go and try it for yourselves.
I was really excited to try it, and although the scent is wonderful, the longevity is a total letdown. It’s barely noticeable at all, even if you press your nose right up to your wrist; I’d say it lasts around three hours or less. It’s a shame because it smells great, but it has no sillage. I sold it because, out of my 100 perfumes, none of the cheaper ones last less than this. I’m a huge fan of Guerlain, but I can’t stand wearing something that evaporates instantly and leaves me with nothing to smell.
