Descripción
Bvlgari Man Terrae Essence by Bvlgari is a woody fragrance for men. Launched in 2021, this olfactory composition was created by Alberto Morillas. In its opening, the fragrance unfolds top notes of citron and calamansi, giving way to a heart of vetiver and iris root. The trail settles on a base of earthy notes and styrax.

Here we have an eau de parfum by master Morillas, going all out, a vetiver fragrance. It often happens: vetiver is a base note due to its potency, but here it is the protagonist of the heart, leaving the others in the background. The question is: is that vetiver of quality? Does it have nuances? I only have a sample, but it is resounding. The iris root adds earthiness in the background. The citrus opening refreshes so it doesn’t feel heavy. The earthy base notes are there to add polish. The comparison with Terre d’Hermès is inevitable, but they distance themselves. If I had to say whose child it is, I’d say it is the offspring of Wind Wood by Mancera and Vetyverio by Diptyque. Although born from a designer house, it has niche DNA, going against the current of commercial launches. They could have made it more enchanting! Of course, but it is Bulgari and they don’t want to lose the younger audience. Anything to make it more elegant would give it an ‘old man’ aroma, which doesn’t seem to be the main target. Suitable for spring and autumn, it can be overwhelming in summer and doesn’t project enough in winter. The strength is the longevity, between vetiver and being an eau de parfum. Valid for the office and special occasions, nothing sporty, with a certain alpha touch. It won’t beat the giants, but it enjoys my sympathy.
Morning, very early, in the mountains or the hills. The scent of herbs raising the dew in the sun. A desire to walk, think, and connect with what matters. Bulgari Terrae opens that door to enjoy. Such a fragrance was needed. Those of us who long for the smell of leaves, moisture, and earth amidst the concrete have found a jewel here.
I agree with antonhofficial’s comment. I tried it at the end of summer and didn’t like it, but I tried it again in autumn with rain and 15 degrees, and it is spectacular, a very rich fragrance.
The fragrance is particular, yet exceptional for me because it stands out in a sea of similarities. The only issue is the projection: longevity on skin is magnificent and on clothes it can last days, but after two hours it fades. At half a metre, people can smell it; it’s like a second skin. It has brought me many compliments when kissing my partner or friends; there, it explodes. Absolutely brilliant for winter and autumn, very masculine and classy.
It smells like the air in the mountains in summer, earth and dry vegetation under the sun at 40 degrees. At first, it seems like a field of hemp set alight, but then it smells wonderful. I’d wear it as a bandolero like Curro Jiménez or the Algarrobo. It is among Bulgari’s best. It bears no resemblance to Terre d’Hermès.
I love it; with Bulgari Terrae Essence, my spirits lift and I find myself in a better mood. It’s a delicious scent, although I know it won’t appeal to everyone. It doesn’t remind me of Guilty Absolute, but rather Terre d’Hermès, with similar vibrations, though not identical. It is one of my favourites at the moment, perhaps because it is recent, as I tend to tire of others over time. I recommend it.
To me, it smells very similar to Terre d’Hermès. It’s not bad, but if I already own the other, why have something so alike? Speculating, could it be a tribute to Jean-Claude Ellena? On the other hand, I see no resemblance to Fahrenheit or Guilty Absolute.
It’s a distinct fragrance, smelling of earth and countryside. I understand it might remind some of cannabis, but in a very subtle way. I recommend testing it on skin before buying; it is quite particular. I struggle to find a moment to wear it, but I bought it because I love it and use it at home to relax. Longevity is moderate to good.
Worn dry, it recalls a blend of Terre d’Hermès (opening) and Fahrenheit (dry down, without the excessive kerosene). It didn’t displease me, nor did it fully convince me, and I suspect it might give me a headache.
To me it smells of civet. This note isn’t listed, nor any musk. Certainly, it doesn’t smell like the velvety Haitian vetiver oil I smell daily and know better than any other note. It does smell natural, robust, and is to my taste, but what I perceive most is the civet.
Brand perfumes usually play it safe, aiming to please everyone while neglecting olfactory experiences (with the exception of gourmands). Most of us start with commercial scents, but those who dive into this world seek sensations or memories. This Terrae Essence is a rare case: Morillas bets on the scent of wet earth after rain. It sounds unappealing, but that wasn’t the aim (there are others for compliments). It is definitely for personal enjoyment.
A blend of Terre d’Hermès in the opening and Dior Homme Intense in the dry-down…
Well, finally something different. This fragrance is delicious, from its refreshing citrus opening to its earthy dry-down. Its longevity is moderate on my skin, barely five hours, but it leaves a trace that sends out waves of light scent.
What a delightful fragrance; what shall we do when Morillas is gone? The truth is it’s earthy and citrusy in the vibe of Terre d’Hermès, but I think unlike this one where bitter orange is the protagonist, here it’s more the smell of earth and woods, with a very elegant and modern vetiver. I tried it at 30 degrees and was surprised it didn’t become overpowering, which makes it very versatile. It asks for a touch of formality in dressing but nothing extraordinary. What surprised me was its longevity and projection: I felt it for over twelve hours and it projects very well for the first three. I’d say it’s among the best of the Bulgari Man line I’ve tried. Different from current trends. Recommended.
I don’t know where people get the idea that this resembles Gucci Guilty Absolute or Terre d’Hermès… this perfume is 90% similar to Encre Noire Extreme; I’m wearing both on each arm and the similarity is very noticeable. Perhaps Terrae Essence is a little more citrusy, but afterwards those earthy notes emerge like wet earth and woodland. It has nothing to do with the leather of Gucci Guilty Absolute.
I’m not an expert in fragrances, but like with wine, I know what I like and what I don’t, and I rarely go wrong. I just smelled it at ECI and immediately regretted spraying it on my wrist: it smells like a wild rabbit. Horrible. Moreover, it’s persistent and dominant. Others might smell flowers, herbs, holm oaks and cork oaks; anyone who hunts will know the strong musky scent I’m referring to. Once and no more.
Spectacular fragrance. It smells like a gentleman, a boss, and a winner. It’s a blend of Ombre Leather Parfum, but instead of a floral base it has a fresher base, which IMO makes it more versatile than Ombre Leather. Undoubtedly a beast.
Reading the comments, I’m sure these are those peculiar perfumes that depend heavily on skin chemistry. I just sprayed it on my shirt and now the Terre d’Hermès facet is more apparent. On my skin, the first time I noticed it, it was 70% Ombre Leather Parfum.
Hello fragrance enthusiasts. Terrae Essence is a good scent and very subtle at first, easily confused with Terre d’Hermès. In the mid-notes it becomes more earthy, and when it dries down it’s identical to Calvin Klein’s Obsession for Men, though this one smells more sexual. I’ve only sniffed two ‘dirty’ perfumes by the Seville-born Alberto Morillas: this Terrae Essence and Acqua Di Gio Profumo. A critic once said Profumo smells a bit sinful, and Alberto claimed his oddest creation, Thierry Mugler Cologne, reminded him of semen. Anyway, Bulgari’s recent launches are excellent because they’re signed by the Seville man.
I love it; it smells different and is hard to categorise. It starts citrusy before settling into a dry earth scent – it’s not vetiver… difficult to explain but it’s unique.
I met it recently and it pleasantly surprised me. Yes, in the opening it is very similar to Terre d’Hermès, but as it dries down it is different. The notes come out in order, remember that it is a Bvlgari. In my country summer is hot, between 35 and 45 degrees, and using it is a whole sensory experience. I sell perfumes and always advise my clients to make good investments, not based on what I like, but on what gives them well-being. Terrae Essence stands out from the crowd: it is rare, subtle, mysterious and wet. It is that perfume people will ask you the name of. It is not for everyone, but it is very pleasant and activates at 30 degrees. Fun fact: on rainy days it smells even more delicious.
I was curious to try it and, to be honest, I did not like it at all. It reminded me of Terre d’Hermès Intense Vetiver, which I do not dislike, but with an even stronger and more potent smell, exaggerated. It is not for me; I could not stand wearing it all day.
I tried it at Sephora and it pleasantly surprised me. It has a niche aroma with personality, different from the rest of the shop. Its earthy and slightly dry vetiver stands out, with touches of cider citrus, unlike the typical blends with grapefruit or bergamot. At the start I noticed a slight chemical smell of benzene, not very pleasant. Although the citrus part lasts, unfortunately the overall performance was very low. I deny the similarities with Tom Ford’s Hombre Leather; they do not resemble each other in notes, opening or dry down.
I applied it to my wrist and I do not know how to describe the smell. I was impressed and incredulous thinking about how something like this is made and yet costs money. It smells of wet earth, a thousand times better than dry earth. This is disgusting; I do not know what it resembles, neither animal nor sweaty leather… It is a disgusting aroma.
I tried it as a last resort and wow, I loved it. I had to buy it because I was impressed. It is an aroma for going out elegantly and for those over 30. It projects a lot for the first two hours, as if you are peeing, and then it drops, but you keep smelling it. Perfect purchase. Although I am not a fan of dark woods, it is true that it resembles Terre d’Hermès, but it has its differences.
As a lover of vetiver, this is one of my favourites. It starts citrusy, like a lime, and as it dries down, the vetiver and lots of wood become noticeable. After a few hours, it gives a sensation of leather, similar to Gucci Guilty Absolute which I also own. If you like vetiver, it is a safe buy. Ideal for rainy, cold or fresh days.
I am a fragrance consultant and this is love or hate, but it is excellent. It resembles Terre d’Hermès, although Terrae Essence from Bvlgari stands out for its citrus opening (though I don’t notice them much). The incredible thing is that it smells different depending on the weather: on hot, humid days it is dry, but on rainy days it is absolutely magical. I wore it today with rain in South America and I sensed more vetiver, lily roots and amber. The dominant note is about six hours of fertile, wet earth, with that little bit of vetiver wood that fades after eight hours. I wear it in the office with a suit, but also with a polo and jeans. It is versatile and you can fall in love with it as I have.
I was a fan of Terre d’Hermès and bought this thinking it would be similar, but it was a catastrophic mistake. Nothing like the real thing; it was a blind buy and a terrible miss. My advice: if you like Terre d’Hermès, buy the original. Don’t make my mistake and save yourself some money.
One of the most imposing male fragrances I have ever smelled, without a doubt. Wearing it is making a statement. It reminds me of red earth after a shower and sawdust; I barely notice the citrus. It has long projection and longevity. My rating: 7/10.
I am a huge fan of Bvlgari Man and this is, without a doubt, the biggest letdown in the range. It smells of potent, ripe figs lasting all day, mixed with cider and earthy notes like lily root and elemi. The result is a strange blend, almost like a hippie in a colourful wool suit. Projection and longevity are excellent, but that weird sweetness with earth doesn’t convince me. Not recommended.
I love Alberto Morillas fragrances; this one is super rich, but not for everyone. It’s strong, masculine and different. The scent lasts many hours; in my case, I really liked the heart and base notes. Upon application, it feels woody, slightly sweet, and finishes with a deep earthy smell. Do not buy blind, although I did. It’s different, far from the usual sweet perfumes. Be careful with the amount of applications.
Among my 300+ perfumes, this would be in the top 10 of scams. The performance is non-existent. I tested it on several people and it lasts a maximum of one or two hours at skin level. I don’t usually review here as I sometimes see troll comments, but in this case, I have to warn: it’s a performance scam, at least my batch.
What a delightful surprise, a masterpiece by Morillas that touches on niche territory. I haven’t heard anything like it. I own Terre d’Hermès and see no resemblance, and although I don’t know the Gucci one, it might share something with Ombre Leather, but very far off. Fresh out of the bottle, it left me impressed. If you don’t buy blind, you need at least a collection and a trained nose. Contrary to what people think, I believe it can earn compliments. We’ll see how longevity holds up; I don’t expect it to be a beast, six hours would satisfy me. Edit: confirmed, it lasted seven hours on skin, reaching nine but the last two at skin level. Moderate projection and trail at the start. Excellent if you like challenging and earthy scents. Recommended.
I read here that it doesn’t last and I think they’ve tampered with it. I have a first batch and it lasts nine hours perfectly, projecting well for two hours, but as soon as I move, I notice it all around. For me, it’s a fantastic perfume.
It’s my signature scent. It smells of wet, fertile earth after a sunny rain. It lasts a long time; when I put it on, I feel like I have superpowers, haha. It’s my favourite, number one.
What a wonder this perfume is; long-lasting and with an original scent. It’s masculine, informal and different. It has a hint of jasmine that I can’t quite identify, but you can smell it amongst the notes.
I find it a distinct and original proposal; I never thought I’d like something with earthy notes. It’s masculine and strong. I’ve read complaints about longevity, but in my case, it projects well for the first four hours, then drops to a personal bubble for another four, yet the scent is felt all along. Eventually, it settles to skin level, but it lasts a total of 10 hours, which doesn’t usually happen. I will certainly buy it again when I run out.
I don’t own it, but I’ve sampled it several times. Sometimes the declared notes don’t match reality, and this is no exception. For my nose, it opens with creamy citrus over freshly cut wet wood. Then the citrus blends with the cream and the wood gains strength until it feels damp and aged, like oud. That’s the heart and dry-down phase, although the creamy citrus from the beginning remains impregnated throughout the wood.
Although it doesn’t win me over, it has its own charm. Earthy notes and a modern vetiver, very balanced and stepping out of the ordinary. It’s worth it if you’re looking for something different, though it calls for formal or semi-formal attire to shine. Ideal for autumn and winter, but you must try it on skin because its earthy and woody character isn’t for everyone. I wore it on a rainy day and the earthy notes were very noticeable.
I tried the 2022 batch and it’s a beast: incredible quality and insane longevity. It smells bitter citrus and sober, with earthy touches and a woody base. I love it; it adds presence and is perfect for work. I usually prefer fresh and marine perfumes, but this… wow, it’s another level. It feels like a distant cousin of Terre d’Hermès, with nods but a more unique essence. It’s mature, not for everyone, but I wore it without issues at 24. I’ll definitely repurchase in 60ml, as it’s better for special occasions. 8/10.
