Demeter Fragrance Library was born in New York's East Village in 1996 with a very specific proposition: turning recognisable smells from everyday life into fragrances to wear. Instead of building each perfume as a traditional composition of top, heart and base notes, the brand works with direct, simple scents, currently crafted in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.
Dirt was one of Demeter's first references, and Gin & Tonic represents its taste for everyday themes that rarely appear in conventional perfumery. The current library exceeds 300 scents and allows them to be combined with one another, with families ranging from clean and citrusy to edible, earthy or woody. The catalogue is best understood as a collection of independent olfactory ideas rather than a line of classic perfumes.
