Everyone knows where they first fell in love with coffee. That is exactly how the description of Awake by master perfumer Oliver Cresp reads on his house ‘Akro’, where he has attempted to portray various human vices in scents. And yes, he has exceptionally reproduced one of mine: coffee. Those who love coffee will know the abyssal differences between a substitute and bean coffee; in turn, they will distinguish between different roasts and the freshness of the roast. Very well, Awake is a bean coffee, medium-dry roast, with a powdery top note. Imagine turning the coffee grinder; the beans begin to be crushed by the grinder’s teeth. That scent is the first thing you will perceive with Awake. I insist, it is not espresso bean; it is the medium roast, the one ideal for Chemex or V60. This coffee, which is full of depth, strength, and robustness, is wonderfully accompanied by a sweet aura in the dry down where very lively citrus notes appear, generating a mouth-watering sensation. This facet gives way to a warm heart, like being in a coffee shop: aromas of roasted beans, not just coffee, but also hazelnuts and even wood. It is a gourmand in every sense, yet it is far from being cloying, and at the same time it is not bitter. There are facets of the perfume that become somewhat acidic (yes, exactly like the flavours of filtered coffee). Cresp manages to masterfully achieve a difficult balance for those recreating the coffee accord. Awake, without a doubt, is the best coffee perfume I have ever smelled. Not recommended? Highly recommended.
“Everyone knows where they truly fell in love with coffee for the first time”. That’s how the description reads for Awake, a fragrance by master Oliver Cresp at his house “Akro”, where he has attempted to depict different human vices in scents. Those who love coffee will know the abyssal differences between a substitute and real bean coffee; in turn, they will distinguish between different roasts and the freshness of the roast. Very well, Awake is a medium-roast bean coffee, dry on the nose, powdery. Imagine turning the grinder and the grain by grain begins to be crushed by the molars. That scent is the first thing you’ll perceive with Awake. I insist, it’s not espresso bean, it’s the medium roast, that ideal for Chemex or V60. This coffee that lavishes depth, strength, and robustness is wonderfully accompanied by a sweet aura; in the opening, very vivid citrus appear and generate a sensation almost salivary. A beautiful gourmand, but not one of those cloying feminine types; simply, its notes are very literal. It smells of coffee with lemon, slightly sweetened and spiced. Curiously, I don’t perceive it as warm coffee, but cold. It must be due to the vetiver and a personal association, as in a local café they make that drink (coffee, milk, lemon syrup, ice, and cinnamon sprinkled on the foam). On male skin it stays fresher, while on female skin it sweetens a bit at the dry down. Longevity 6-8 hours, moderate sillage.

Creamy, spiced, and sweet coffee aroma… it can become cloying for those who don’t like sweet things. A good fragrance but I don’t advise buying it blindly; it’s peculiar.
Fantastic perfume… different and distinctive without falling into the grotesque, very pleasant… as recommended as taking a cup of coffee at the start of the day. For someone who has many perfumes, thinking of a signature fragrance is impossible and discarding the rest is a Herculean task… well, this would be among mine…

For me, it’s just coffee… Don’t buy it blindly.
It’s a very sugared black coffee that I found very pretty. The lemon and cardamom add freshness so it’s not as overt or realistic as my beloved Coffee Addict by Theodoros Kalotinis (which I actually like more than Awake). As it dries down, it recalls roasted coffee beans with a woody base. It has moderate sillage and over 10 hours of longevity on my skin, leaving a delicious scent that lasts for days on clothes. I’ve liked it quite a bit, but it hasn’t enchanted me quite as much as Dark, which was an impulse buy after trying it. For now, I won’t be getting it. Scent 7.5/10, Longevity 10/10, Sillage 7.5/10, Value for money 7.5/10, Versatility 7/10, Packaging 6/10. Would I buy again? I didn’t.
I came across this perfume via a small sample and, as I have never been interested in the coffee note, I did not pay much attention. I applied it without expecting anything, thinking about what I would use later once this scent faded, but I was pleasantly surprised. I loved this grainy, well-sugared coffee aroma at first sniff; very simple but very lovely. I liked it so much that I bought it immediately taking advantage of a good offer. The aroma is quite realistic; I cannot see who would not like this sweet coffee, although you should try it first. As for performance, I only applied about 1ml and it projected for half a day. Having read that it has good performance, I am more than content with this first approach to Akro and to perfumes with a coffee scent.

I loved this coffee scent at first sniff; it’s well-sugared roasted coffee, very simple yet very charming too. I liked it so much I bought it on the spot taking advantage of a good offer. Smells incredibly real of coffee straight out of the bottle. Then, luckily (and not because I dislike coffee, but due to the olfactory experience), it blends with lemon and cardamom to become a distinct coffee fragrance. Black coffee, obviously. Once it dries down and after several hours, it’s identical to Montale’s Chocolate Greedy. Bestial longevity. I limit it to winter mornings; I recommend it. Tested and approved. ✌🏾✅🤝🏾
It gives a very realistic coffee, but luckily (and not because I do not like coffee, but due to the olfactory experience) it mixes with lemon and cardamom to create something different: black coffee. When it dries down, after several hours, it is identical to Montale’s Chocolate Greedy. Bestial longevity. I recommend it only for winter mornings. Tested and approved. ✌🏾✅🤝🏾
Super realistic roasted beans. It’s my favourite from the Akro discovery kit so far.
The most authentic-smelling coffee.
Nice coffee scent, sweet and chocolatey. Although I don’t believe there’s one better than Coffee Addict by Theodoros Kalotinis in terms of realism, Awake perhaps offers you more than just a slap of pure coffee; it’s made to be more enjoyable.
It smells of freshly roasted and ground coffee beans, a genuine morning energy boost. On the opening, lemon and cardamomo make it fresh, but as it dries down, it becomes sweeter with brown sugar, floral touches and something lactonic. Although it’s gourmand, the spices give it a light and distinct character. For me, it’s a cortado: neither as bitter as black coffee nor as creamy as with milk. I see it as 100% unisex, ideal for autumn/winter, and it’s irresistible even to those who don’t like coffee. Longevity is over 10 hours, with high projection at the start that becomes intimate after 7-8 hours. It’s the best coffee-scented fragrance with nuances I’ve tried, better than Coffee Addict, and its quality-to-price ratio is 10/10.
A super realistic experience of freshly ground and served coffee, but with a fresh twist from the citrus. It’s literally a Cold Brew aroma infused for hours with citrus; the cardamomo gives it great body. I liked it simply because I love drinking coffee.
Imagine waking up in a paradisiacal hotel with the scent of freshly made coffee from your partner everywhere. You step out of the bathroom smiling, shaved and calm, ready for a quiet day. Awake is a totally authentic coffee aroma. At first, it’s very noticeable, but over time it becomes sweeter and softer, with a linear development. The intense coffee note shifts into a strong, tasty cappuccino, accompanied by citrus and cardamomo. The performance is acceptable: neither long nor short, perfect for relaxed moments where there’s no rush.
Awake is the easiest perfume of all if you like coffee. After trying several similar options, this is one of the best. It moves between Turkish coffee thanks to the cardamom and a creamy cappuccino at times. The sweetness and intensity are precise; it’s an excellent, suggestive and gourmand experience. If you’re looking for something similar, Cardamom Coffee by Lush is vastly superior in density and longevity, but Awake is highly enjoyable and I’d recommend giving it a try (8.5/10).
It could be one of the best coffee fragrances I’ve ever tried.
From the very first moment, Awake transports you to a chaotic morning where you spill coffee on your shirt on the way to work. The scent is intense, roasted, creamy and absolutely realistic, like an olfactory memory. The projection is powerful; anyone would think you’re holding a cup in your hand. Over time, the coffee softens, giving way to an enveloping vanilla with a caramel touch, creating a warm, skin-hugging sensation.
Enjoying a good coffee at home or in a café is a pleasure, and Awake by Akro conveys it with comforting warmth. Coffee is the star, surrounded by chocolatey nuances reminiscent of biscuits or cakes. On the opening, there are citrus touches of lemon, followed by ambergris and finally a woody base with vetiver and cardamomo remnants. It’s the perfect perfume for coffee lovers: realistic yet elegant, sweet without being cloying and versatile, ideal for cold or rainy days.
It smells purely of coffee, beans and a rich espresso. I detect no other notes, just pure intensity. If you like coffee, you’ll adore it; it’s so potent it makes you want to eat it, though I feel it lacks a bit more olfactory complexity.
Awake proves that not everything is as it seems: if you’re looking for a sweet Starbucks-style coffee, you’ll be disappointed. In reality, it smells of freshly cut beans thanks to that initial lemon note—fresh and vibrant. It then evolves into ground and roasted coffee, with woody and boozy hints that evoke a cabin in the woods preparing the brew, rather than the final result. The longevity is brutal, although the trail is short, which makes it sexy, modern and perfect for dates; in the office, it goes unnoticed, as if you’d just spilled coffee on yourself (9/10).
