  I took the Discovery Set and tried Blue Cypress, which I was eager to smell. The initial cucumber note reminded me of Aramis Always, very fresh. Then I compared it with Kenneth Cole Signature and… boom! It is identical to KCS. I have to put them side by side, but the first impression is a total coincidence. I’ve heard it compared to classic AdG and Profondo, but that is absurd; it’s like saying night is day. For me, they do not resemble each other in the slightest.

  Upon opening it, I conducted a My Scent Journey-style experiment… three blotters in my hand with my ADG bottles: one from 2008 and another from 2017. Atomised, the opening was identical between BC and ADG 2008, but the 2017 version felt more watery, so I discarded it for the second part. On skin, things change: we cannot say BC-ADG is like GIT-Cool Water (CW) because, although the difference is basically ingredient quality (which is noticeable), the scent is essentially the same unless you pay close attention. Here I do perceive differences: ADG is aquatic, whereas this BC is more of a fresh woody opening followed by an aquatic floral with a spicy touch. This makes it deeper, more evolving, and interesting, roughly 4 to 1 compared to ADG, though those extra nuances (complexity, if you like to call it that) will prevent BC from receiving the same compliments, as humans tend to prefer simplicity. Are they similar? Simple answer: yes, just as Black Label resembles Blue Label. (8.5/10)

  I performed the My Scent Journey test with three blotters and my AdG bottles (2008 and 2017). On paper, Blue Cypress and the 2008 AdG are identical; the 2017 version comes out more watery and I discarded it. On skin, the situation changes: it is not like Git or Cool Water, where the difference is merely ingredient quality; here there are real nuances. Blue Cypress is more woody and fresh at the start, then becomes aquatic and floral with a spicy touch. It is deeper and more evolving, a 4 to 1 against AdG. They are similar, yes, just as Black Label is to Blue Label, but that extra complexity will mean you receive fewer compliments. 8.5/10.

  To my nose, ADG smells like nothing at all; the anise and cypress are very present and natural. I understand the similarity, but here I definitely sense quality. It does not smell of ambroxan; rather, it smells natural.
