I used The Body Shop’s White Musk splash years ago and loved it – musky and woody, suitable for any weather. When I bought this mist at the supermarket thinking it was identical to TBS, I made a fatal mistake by not testing it on my skin. It’s not bad; the quality is good, with great sillage and five hours of longevity. However, the dry-down disappoints me with a note I simply can’t stand – perhaps neroli, aldehydes, or yellow flowers – giving it a rather ‘mummy’ vibe. Fragrances follow trends like fashion: aldehydes and strong musks used to dominate, now it’s all gourmands and fruits. White musk is synthetic, but here there’s something animalic that vaguely reminds me of Paloma Picasso. If you like aristocratic and musky scents, it’s perfect for you; in short, I hated it, but it is of very good quality.

I received three blind-bought bottles and decided to try them because of reviews mentioning Nivea or Dove-style beard soap, which I’m a huge fan of. Oh surprise, they were right: creamy, soapy, clean, and ethereal, totally unisex. Perhaps its delicacy makes it seem feminine, but I feel comfortable wearing it, loving that Dove soap creaminess. It lasts a long time; I apply a generous amount before bed to feel secure, and I detect nuances of Chanel No. 5 that also remind me of Dove soap.
