Descripción

Clair de Musc by Serge Lutens, launched in 2003, is an olfactory jewel from the floral family, designed for men and women. This composition, created by perfumer Christopher Sheldrake, unfolds an olfactory pyramid where the top notes reveal freshness, the heart offers a delicate floral burst, and the base anchors the fragrance with its characteristic musky persistence.

Clair de Musc opens with a strong burst of aldehydes, even though they aren’t listed, but they are very noticeable. I’ve read comparisons to a softer, lighter Chanel No. 5, and there’s some truth to that, at least in the opening. It also has a slightly dirty, animalic scent, though very subtle, with an almost imperceptible citrus note. Gradually, the aldehydes fade and neroli joins the iris; here it becomes more powdery and soapy, giving that clean, fresh sensation. It’s like a blend of bath soaps, creams, and powders. In the dry down, it leaves a musky, vanilla-like scent very close to the skin that lasts quite a while. I think it can be worn in any weather without worry and is 100% unisex. The opening does smell more feminine due to the aldehydes and that Chanel connection, but once it dries down, it becomes more unisex. I never felt uncomfortable at any point. The performance is just about right: it lasts hours, and the first half-hour is noticeable, but afterwards it clings very closely to the skin. It leaves me undecided. It smells good, is pleasant, and is distinct from what I’ve heard of the Lutens line, with a touch of elegance, but it’s not something I would buy. Trying it out once is fine, but I wouldn’t use it if I had a full bottle. It’s a lovely scent and worth trying at least once.
