I must say I tested it at the same time as others, and seeming to be short on potency, perhaps for both reasons, I didn’t feel it as it should. Unlike Serge Noire, this one I do want to try again because it left me wanting more. It’s hard to talk about the notes as I perceived it more as a blend, but what I intuited didn’t seem to smell bad. Combining jasmine with animal notes, with the slightly sweet counterpoint that Lutens ALWAYS introduces, could be a very good idea.
Sweet jasmine with a slight touch of civet and a trail of musks. To my mind, it smells a bit girly, youthful, and with decent longevity. It’s quite linear as well. More suited to summer climates than winter, and personally, I think it would suit a feminine skin better. Not much more to say here. I believe it’s one of Lutens’ least brilliant launches in recent years, as although it doesn’t smell bad, it’s nothing special or remarkable.
I like it, but it’s nothing like what I expected from a Serge Lutens perfume called La Religieuse. It’s very floral, like a sparkling jasmine soap. That said, for something so clean and discreet, it still clings to my wrist the next day, as if I’d applied a luxurious jasmine lotion. It could be interesting for summer, and I wouldn’t mind keeping it in my collection, but there are more striking ones that come first on my list.
A JASMINE LIKE A WHISPER IN SILENCE At first, it seemed very simple, but over time I’ve truly appreciated it. Its beauty lies in that naturalness that isn’t empty, but full of a stillness that captivates. In La Religieuse, there’s a tender, almost reverent jasmine, creamy and clean. The dry-down is soft, wrapped in sensual musks, and the animal notes or ecclesiastical incense mentioned by others are never noticeable. It doesn’t seek attention or compliments; its purpose is to invite us on an inner journey, an introspective experience. This jasmine seems to be at the heart of a cloister, hidden in its purity, inviting us to discover it slowly and calmly, leaving the outside noise behind. Definitely, La Religieuse has a silent sensuality, so subtle yet powerful, that has conquered me. 🍀 https://youtu.be/u9Dg-g7t2l4?feature=shared
A jasmine that gets along well, with a vintage animal base but without being an olfactory bomb (although the term ‘animal’ often scares people, here it’s perfectly fine). It’s discreet, elegant, and summery, though it lacks that dark touch from Lutens I was hoping for in an incense note, which never appears.
