You’re going to say I’m bad or that I have no sense of smell, but I’m not the only one who smells like a public bathroom with Cinnabar. It’s a high-class lady, elegant and sophisticated, but sometimes she has a bad day with leaks and poor digestion. I only know her like this, decomposed. My advice: test before buying, never blindly.

You might say I’m bad at smelling things or have no sense of smell, but I’m not the only one who smells like a public bathroom with Cinnabar. Ring! It must be CINNY! the girls shouted in unison and opened the door. Cinnabar entered and all the cousin sisters, Chanel 5, Youth Dew, Opium, and Joya, got excited. They remembered their days as ‘THE POWERFUL ONES’ and commented on how Aunt L’Oreal had ‘watered down’ Opium. Cinnabar noticed it now smelled more of aldehydes, like Joya, and although Opium and Joya noticed the cloves and cinnamon a lot, Chanel 5 insisted that what dominates is the patchouli. Cinnabar laughed to know they had relaunched it and spent hours laughing among the five wonderful ones.

I remember Cinnabar with fondness; I haven’t found it again. A faithful aunt gifted me what was left in a bottle. It was a very gentle oriental, like a good girl next to an Opium. It smelled of spicy cinnamon surrounded by soft cloves, pink pepper, incense, benzoin, sandalwood, and carnation. The spices embraced gently and after hours they turned powdery. It was beautiful, sensual, elegant, and classic. I feel like rewinding time and smelling it again.

I remember Cinnabar with great affection; I haven’t been able to find it again. A friend was faithful to it and gifted me what was left. It was a very gentle oriental, like the good girl next to Opium. It smelled of sharp cinnamon surrounded by soft cloves, pink pepper, incense, benzoin, sandalwood, and carnation. The spices embraced softly, and after hours they turned powdery. It was beautiful, sensual, elegant, and classic. It makes me want to turn back time and smell it again.

Cinnabar is the pretty oriental girl with spices. It used to be wilder, now it’s softer and warmly cinnamon-scented, without any dirty notes. Even though it’s toned down, I love it for that cold, powerful winter vibe, that hot red note that awakens the feminine and hypnotic side. It inherits the strength of the 70s and is a treasure that shouldn’t be buried. It has more personality than an entire shelf of new fragrances.

A sensual aroma that highlights cinnamon, sweet yet light. Perfect for autumn and winter, it’s like a warm, cosy coat that wraps you in mystery. Elegant and very seductive for conquering hearts. A classic that with just a few drops develops its full complexity and clings to the skin for hours. Excellent longevity, lasting until the next day.

In my humble opinion, this version of Estée Lauder’s classic Cinnabar is still good. It’s a classic, warm, and dense scent. It has a heavy clove presence, but the floral harmony prevents it from smelling like cooking spices. The opening is intense and fresh due to the orange, then quickly shifts to a spicy, oily scent of soft clove mixed with jasmine. The sandalwood is well-worked for longevity. It’s classic, perhaps a bit rigid, and not for everyone. Ideal to wear with a blazer or to a gala. It’s elegant and gives an oily nuance to the skin. A grown-up, stylish floral-spicy oil. It looks great on a woman (or a man) of classic style. Wonderful under fur or wool coats in autumn and winter, it adds warmth. Don’t buy it blindly; it’s not for everyone. Better to test it on your skin as it changes depending on your pH. It’s a reformed classic that remains good, a staple perfume you’ll be remembered for its scent.
I’m not sure if this reformulation is faithful to the original, but it’s a tribute to classic scents, which is what perfumers were always seeking: luxury and sensuality in equal measure. Alongside others from the brand, Cinnabar creates a unique atmosphere: it begins with that balsamic orange, moves through a floral development with a spicy touch, and finishes with a soft patchouli. It’s the perfect way to summarise a complex fragrance. Very elegant, long-lasting, and with moderate projection. In my opinion, and considering current tastes, it’s totally unisex.
I bought this because at this stage in my life, I’m looking for perfumes with character—nothing about following the fashion for fashion’s sake. I prefer classics that make me feel that special magic unique to each fragrance. This one has a charming touch that captivates me from the very first moment. I tried it in-store and spent two days wanting it, and now it’s mine. Though I won’t say it out loud, I detect the cinnamon: sweet without being cloying, elegant and sophisticated, yet not pretentious. It dresses you up and leaves a mark. It’s potent and sensual, but not for everyone. Imagine a single sip of cognac: it burns at first, then you think, ‘what a fine spirit’. That’s Cinnabar, an olfactory punch that turns into delight. Give it a try and tell me what you think.
