Descripción

Fougère Platine by Tom Ford is an aromatic fougère fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2018, this composition was created by Olivier Gillotin and Linda Song. The top notes unfold with clary sage, lavender, bergamot, and basil; the heart reveals hyssop, frankincense, honey, and Spanish labdanum; while the base notes settle on tobacco, woods, and cedar.

  • I find it quite interesting, though nothing groundbreaking. Why? Initially, it reminds me of a earthier, darker, less sweet (less Christmassy) ‘Vert d’Encens’. It quickly loses that reference and transforms into a ‘Patchouli Absolu’ with a very peculiar twist, as if it were a flanker of the latter. It has a VERY herbal touch. Has anyone heard of Amouage’s Memoir Man? That wormwood/garlic note here is present in this perfume. No, I’m not crazy. It’s not listed in the ingredients, yet the scent is IDENTICAL. Smell both perfumes (this one and Memoir) and tell me otherwise; I’ll accept any criticism if I’m lying. Redundant if you already own ‘PA’. I like Fougère Platine and give it a 7. It’s a good dry-down fragrance, very interesting, but nothing more. I wouldn’t buy it again.

  • I’ll base my opinion solely on the review below by my companion. Okay, I decided to buy it blind because I found it at a good price from a friend who had a nearly full bottle. I was intrigued because I’m not very accustomed to fougères, although they are historical classics. It smells fresh and citrusy at first, with a metallic freshness that I suppose is the rosemary and lavender, though I can’t quite identify the scent well; I know they are there. There are citrus notes from the bergamot and a sweet air as it dries down, which must be the honey. Sometimes it smells of incense (you have to concentrate) which might be the frankincense, and the woody notes with cedar combined with what I think is tobacco… I don’t smell the tobacco or I confuse it with another note, I don’t know :(. The opening is very explosive and fresh-metallic (referencing the only marketing image I saw, well thought out there by TF), but then it fades significantly in performance, staying very close to the skin with sweet and incensed notes while the rosemary/lavander freshness dies down, mixing green notes and that unidentified tobacco with woods. WARNING, after several outings I notice it doesn’t last long on the skin; it stays very close to the skin and practically disappears when you sweat, so beware when buying. That said, it smells very well; it’s a scent that might remind you of an old barbershop cologne, but Tom Ford gives it a modern and elegant touch. Personally I like it but I would like it to last better. I recommend it for elegant events and evenings, or romantic dates with more intimacy, BUT despite that, it suits any situation, it’s not invasive, it would be great for a night out with friends, at a club, whatever the occasion. Would I buy it again? Yes, but only if I find it at a price like the 50ml bottle I got; they say it will be discontinued, so it will remain as a Tom Ford legacy in my collection.

  • I never understand Tom Ford’s obsession with discarding their finest pieces. It is one of the best fougères in my collection and exactly what I enjoy most. If not for the price, I wouldn’t have a single complaint; it’s a 10/10.
