The scents that endure transcend eras and fashions because they imbue the wearer with personality and style. I believe it is the best flanker in the series; compared to the original or the Cologne version, there is a clear difference between day and night in performance. Eau Sauvage Extrême maintains the original DNA but amplifies it. It is more potent and deep, allowing ‘extreme’ to make sense. It is a mature and dark EDT, rightly nicknamed Intense. It has something creamy, spiced, woody, with reminiscences of classic barbershops and strong aftershave. Fresh, soft, citrus, fruity, and mature entry, with a slight spice. Lavender and mint are noticeable in the dry-down, and after an hour, vetiver triumphs. It has everything. After the disaster of Dior Homme 2020 or a faded Fahrenheit, you return to the Dior train if you let this masterpiece settle on your skin. It is incredible to see how certain fragrances are just marketing, while others like this, which disappear, almost have no buyers left. It seems the era of fully masculine perfumes has ended. It is a pity to have experienced a superior aroma that got ahead of its time, appearing first in 1984 and then in 2010 with few followers. Sad, because it is a niche fragrance disguised as designer. If you find a black bottle on a shelf, try it and take it without hesitation; you have more than enough arguments to fall in love.
I’ve been wearing this gem for quite some time and was thinking about sharing my thoughts, but after reading ‘jerry drake’, I can’t agree more with every word. I’m delighted someone has done it justice better than I could; thanks, Jerry!
I agree with Jerry Drake’s words. I would add that when it dries down, it is very similar to the now-discontinued Terre d’Hermes Eau Tres Fraiche.

After wearing this wonder for a while, I thought about reviewing it, but after reading what Jerry Drake wrote, I can only subscribe to every word and take off my hat before such a fantastic description. I am glad someone does this jewel justice better than I could; thank you, Jerry 😉
Excellent herbal and fresh fragrance with a mature cut; the quality is evident. It must be the basil combined with the other notes that gives it that licorice aroma, and I love that. I must look for other fragrances with licorice 😄
Few flankers named Extreme or Intense meet expectations, but Eau Sauvage Extreme lives up to its name. It is an exalted reinterpretation of the classic: a strong citrus opening of lemon mixed with potent lavender (which the original lacks) and minor notes like mint and cedar. Even I get a hint of anise, though I don’t declare it. This bottle is not easy to find these days; if you like the original, do not miss it because it surpasses the classic in scent, performance, and longevity.
It’s rare for flankers like ‘Extreme’ or ‘Intense’ to deliver on their promise, but Eau Sauvage Extreme certainly does. It’s a boosted version of the classic: a strong citrus opening with lemon and potent lavender (which the original lacks), plus mint and cedar. To me, it smells a bit of anise, even though it’s not listed. It’s hard to find these days, but if you like the classic Eau Sauvage, don’t miss out; it outperforms the original in scent, projection, and longevity.
As Jerry Drake said, I consider this my niche fragrance. Extreme quality and very sophisticated. After reading his review, I went to find it in my collection. I applied it only on my arm to enjoy it in solitude, just as described. It is a fragrance that transports you to another era, like listening to Queen. It will never go out of style.
Eau Sauvage Extreme 2010 is a darker, more sophisticated take on the classic. Its citrus opening is fresh, with a vintage touch of lavender that lends elegance without being overly mature. Unlike the original, it has a deeper character, balancing freshness and darkness in a charming way. It feels like a niche fragrance, versatile for day or night. Its complexity and freshness make it perfect for those seeking something distinctive. Delicious.
I picked this up during the Christmas sale, almost blindly, guided solely by the scent of Eau de Savage and the glowing reviews here. It does not disappoint: a potent citrus opening that settles quickly into herbal tones. For me, the lavender, mint, and jasmine accompany me for most of the journey before yielding to its rustic base. A great fragrance for almost every occasion; it never clashes, with a formal yet clean touch. The trail isn’t its strong suit, but it stays with you all day as a personal delight. I reserve it for special events.
