Malbec Black by O Boticário is a woody oriental fragrance for men. Launched in 2019, this composition was created by perfumer Pascal Gaurin. In its opening, the fragrance unfolds an explosion of cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, juniper, lemon and bergamot. The heart reveals the elegance of sage and geranium, while the base settles on a warm and enveloping foundation of vanilla, sandalwood, amber, benzoin, frankincense, cashmere and patchouli.

I tried it three times: mysterious, attractive, and nocturnal. It’s a standout scent without being overwhelming, settling down after two hours to a moderate but lasting presence that easily covers eight hours. Not identical, yet it gave me similar vibes to Bvlgari’s Man in Black. Smoky notes, incense, and benzoin, with a spicy opening, woods typical of the whole Malbec line, and subtle sweet touches that make you want to feel it again. It accompanies the night with freshness, perfect for dressing up with mysterious seduction.

Bought blind for those favourite notes: oriental, spicy, woody and sweet. If it gets close to MIB, it’s inevitable. They’re similar but different; here there’s no tobacco or leather, just a powerful base of sandalwood and amber. It also reminds me of Homem de Natura, to the point where they feel redundant to me. I love it: acceptable longevity, good sillage and very cheap, around $40 in Argentina. It’s a night scent, as dark as the bottle, mature, serious and imposing.
