Malbec Sport by O Boticário is a woody-spicy fragrance for men. Launched in 2016, the nose behind this composition is Francisco Marano. The top notes unfold with nutmeg, cardamom, juniper, bergamot, lime and mandarin; the heart reveals lavender, geranium, sage and cedar; while the base notes settle into leather, patchouli, musk, sandalwood, vetiver, amber, moss, cedar and tonka bean.

At first, it smells of wood, something sweet and sticky with a spicy, fresh touch. Then the wood and leather take over. It’s not that classic, clean, light sport scent; instead, it has presence, warm maturity and spice (woods, sandalwood and leather) mixed with a clean joy (pachouli, amber, lavender). Many find its identity confusing due to the disparate sensations and lack of harmony, perhaps because it’s a sport within the Malbec line. It lasts very well, around 8 hours, projecting strongly for the first 2 before settling down. In my opinion, I quite like it; I think it suits evening wear better, in non-hot weather, for informal and slightly occasional occasions.
