Zoologist Perfumes' Beaver Maple Edition is a woody olfactory creation designed for both men and women. This fragrance, signed by perfumer Pascal Gaurin, was launched in 2025. Its olfactory pyramid unfolds with an aquatic and citrus freshness at the top, thanks to water lily, carrot, and neroli. The heart of the composition reveals a rich, earthy, and resinous character with maple, Peru balsam, cedar, and vetiver. Finally, the base settles on a warm and animalic accord combining castoreum, cocoa pod, vanilla bean, patchouli, and sandalwood.

For me, this fragrance is an absolute gem: ideal for anyone wanting to explore niche perfumery or escape the monotony of commercial scents. The Zoologist Beaver Maple edition opens with a warm, spicy amber that is incredibly rich, making it perfect for everyday wear from autumn through spring in semi-formal, work, or leisure settings, though not for nightclubs. Maple dominates the first hour, yet far from being an excessively sweet, syrupy caramel, it is perfectly balanced to deliver a gourmand profile with just the right touch of sweetness, avoiding any exhausting cloyingness. It is, without a doubt, one of the best maple-based perfumes I have tried. After the first hour, the wood takes centre stage; the blend dries down with more spice and the sweetness becomes smoky and enchanting. I find it a composition with a very interesting, almost playful olfactory evolution that delights with its progression. The performance does not fail: it lasts around eight hours on skin, projects well to a metre for the first two hours before settling into a personal bubble, yet it is noticeable if someone hugs you or stands very close. It is a creative fragrance, nothing unusual, which will please those around you. As I always say, do not focus solely on ratings; always test on skin before buying any niche scent. Your skin is the only true judge to know if it is truly great for you.
