Amouage Material is an oriental vanilla fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2021, this composition is signed by nose Cécile Zarokian. Its top notes of elemi and patchouli give way to a heart of Madagascar vanilla and benzoin, while the base reveals a warm, resinous trail of tonka bean, frankincense, myrrh, gaiac wood, oud wood, and osmanthus.

A perfume I recently discovered and fell in love with. It’s warm, spicy, vanilla-infused, and ambered. What I appreciate is the cinnamon scent combined with that typical Amouage touch of incense, the sweetness of the amber and vanilla, and as a final touch, the well-balanced oud wood, which makes it an exquisite and high-quality fragrance. Many compare it to Francis Kurkdjian’s Grand Soir, and although they are similar, Grand Soir seems to me more ambered, heavier, and less versatile.
Amouage Material 🪐. Although it’s listed as feminine, it’s totally unisex, guys, don’t miss this. Resins, incense, vanilla, and tonka bean. It makes me feel superb. It has a rounded yet enchanting and addictive aroma. It’s like being in an oriental house, on a tatami with a vanilla and tonka incense stick. Soft instrumental music, dressing up with hope for a date. Amouages are usually difficult, but this one is more accessible than its sisters. It’s as if you took the citrus out of Ani de Nishane and replaced it with the exit of Grand Soir plus a pinch of incense. It wraps you in a sweet and enigmatic bubble. Cécile Zarokian is my favourite perfumer; she works with vanilla in a sublime way. She came to my house because I couldn’t be without her; I love it. Scent and longevity: five planets each.
Wood, tonka, and oud. It reminds me of Interlude for its strength and spice, although here there are fewer spices and more wood. Honestly, I still haven’t managed to fall in love with it. Cheers.
This is what drives me crazy: a perfect blend of balanced resins with vanilla and patchouli. A ten out of ten for scent and performance, without a doubt.
Opens with a potent elemi resin and a patchouli that, to my nose, is exquisite and not earthy at all. Half an hour in, it releases a soft cloud of smoke and a super-authentic smoky vanilla, like the inside of a pod with plenty of osmanthus. Over time, it becomes smokier, almost like a bonfire or burnt wood. At first, it might not appeal, but in the base there is a wonderful vanilla that, alongside the tonka bean and woods, creates an incredible and captivating blend. It’s a night perfume, heavy and seductive to a fault, though it conveys a certain distance. For me, it’s a must, although perhaps not for everyone; you need to be an lover of the oriental to enjoy it to the fullest.
