Rare Flowers Solar Narcissus by Avon is a summer fragrance, nothing like a typical citrus scent; instead it’s floral and amber, fresh and subtle yet with presence. It smells clean and leaves you feeling refreshed, reminiscent of Today but with its own character. Ideal for those over 15; it lasts 2-3 hours with a moderate trail.

Avon Rare Flowers Solar Narcissus eau de parfum is an entry-level summer fragrance. It’s not the typical citrus, but rather floral and ambered, fresh and subtle, yet noticeable and very pleasant, with a clean scent that makes you feel fresh. A bit like Today, but only slightly, because it has its own character. Suitable for over 15s, lasts 2-3 hours, and has a medium sillage.

  • I liked the scent; I thought the solar notes would be stronger, but it’s a fruitier and lighter version of Avon’s Tomorrow. They aren’t the same, but you can detect the apricot and peach; the former is more acidic. What disappointed me was the longevity, which is very low: after two hours, it’s barely detectable on the skin, despite applying five sprays to moisturised arms. I wouldn’t pay full price, but I bought it on discount. I’ll enjoy it at home this spring and summer, but I won’t repurchase. Edit: I wore it in summer and it lasted 3 hours. It’s good for work mornings, a cheerful touch. Soft but delicious. I still think it’s not an EDP, but it smells divine.

  • I liked the scent, though I thought the solar notes would be more prominent; I feel it as a fruitier, lighter version of Avon’s Tomorrow. They aren’t the same, but the similar quince and peach are noticeable, although the quince is more acidic. What disappointed me was the longevity, very low, not even medium. After two hours it’s already close to the skin, although I applied five sprays on a moisturised arm with cream. I wouldn’t pay the full price; luckily I bought it on discount. I’ll enjoy it at home this spring and summer, but I won’t repurchase. Edit: I wore it in summer and it lasted three hours; I think it’s good for mornings when I need a boost to get through work. It’s soft but delicious. I still think it’s not an EDP, but it has a divine aroma.

In its heart notes, it reminds me of Rare Gold, that perfume Avon discontinued in Argentina which was a terrible mistake. Rare Gold was a unique jewel, superior to many designer scents, very long-lasting and oily. Although Rare Flowers lacks those qualities, it has a subtle resemblance to its ‘old grandfather’. It’s a charming aroma, a future addition to my collection. Highly recommended if you know Rare Gold.

On the heart notes, I smell Rare Gold, that gem Avon pulled from their catalogue in Argentina years ago, a fatal mistake that left behind poor specimens. Rare Gold was a unique jewel, nothing like designer perfumes. It was super long-lasting and oily; although Rare Flowers doesn’t have those qualities, it’s special for that subtle resemblance to its old grandfather. A charming scent, a future acquisition for my collection. If you know Rare Gold, I highly recommend it.

  • Clásica

Rare Flowers Solar Narcissus is super feminine, with the distinction of the Rare collection but more modern. Like the whole line, it starts with white flowers, combined with the sweetness of quince (the predominant note for me) and amber. I consider it formal, but less classic and intense than Rare Gold. It reminds me of Today, but sweeter (I find Today a bit bitter). Although it tends to dry down a bit talc-like, it’s not a typical musky floral; I’d describe it as a fruity floral. The longevity isn’t beastly like other Rare scents, but it beats six hours with moderate projection. An excellent option for spring and summer, daily wear, casual or semi-formal. Who will like it: lovers of amber and the Rare collection.

Soft, delicate, floral, slightly talc-like and fresh. It’s quite wearable, suitable from the age of 20. Very pleasant, ideal for wearing during the day with nude-toned outfits.

  • Soft, sweet, with the sweetness of fruits, especially ripe peaches. It feels solar and luminous, very pleasant. I’m testing it in the heat and it performs quite well. The scent projects for an hour and a half to two hours, it’s quite noticeable, then it settles close to the skin. The longevity is between four and five hours.

  • charlotinable

Avon sometimes surprises, and this fragrance has been a delight. It smells wonderful, with a discreet and distinguished elegance, soft and powdery. The bergamot enters without dominating, yielding to a glorious pear balanced with a cheeky quince. Then comes a rich amber that nuances everything, leaving me with a delicious jasmine and Tiaré flower. I bought two bottles on offer after testing it on a sample. I love it for its clean, sober scent. It has no beastly sillage; it stays close to the skin, perhaps lingering more on clothes; for the price, you can’t ask for more. Very much in the style of Lancôme’s Idole.

  • Not for young people. Upon spraying, it smells like something I’ve detected on older ladies before, though I can’t quite place it. I was expecting a sunny field of flowers, but straight out of the bottle it smells directly of orange. As it develops, it matures into something slightly woody and talc-like. I catch a very brief wink of sunlight that leaves me a little sad. On the skin it retains its sweetness, but on clothes it’s much stronger. I struggle to understand it: by lunchtime it’s gone, and by six o’clock there’s nothing left on my clothes either. It’s not bad, just not what I was looking for.
