Descripción

Perceive by Avon is an oriental fragrance for women. Launched in 2000, this composition was created by perfumer Christopher Sheldrake. The olfactory pyramid begins with top notes of yellow freesia and white pepper; the heart reveals a harmony of pear, carnation, damson plum, and ylang-ylang; and the base settles on musk, sandalwood, vanilla orchid, and cedar.

  • What a laugh with this fragrance back in 2000… A friend was searching for the scent that used to flood the corridors at our English teacher’s. They told her it was Perceive by Avon, so she tracked it down and bought it, only to later discover it was actually Jacqueline Bisset’s creation. I still remember the look of disappointment on her face when she smelled it… it horrified her. She promptly put it back in the bottle and muttered ‘santas pascuas’ (good heavens). It was something between floral and spicy, anaemic and greasy, with a super sharp freesia that gave it a horrible lacquer or medical chloroform body. The bottle ended up on a shelf; its only use was to make us laugh our heads off when we’d arrive drunk in the early hours, playing a game of spraying unsuspecting victims on the neck. Perceive had an ultra-chemical aroma, like a laboratory musk, greasy and very insidious. I see now that Sheldrake created it; I’d love to try it again 🙂

  • What I could laugh about with this fragrance back in 2000… A friend was hunting for the scent that had flooded the corridors of an English teacher. They were told it was Avon’s Perceive, tracked down their distributor, and bought it, only to later discover it was actually a fragrance launched by Jacqueline Bisset. Anyway, I still vividly remember my friend’s face of sheer disappointment when she smelled it… it horrified her. She popped it back into its bottle and muttered something about ‘santas pascuas’ (holy holidays). It was a mix of floral and spicy, anaemic and oily, with a super sharp, spiced freesia that gave the perfume a body like nail varnish or medicated chloroform—horrible. The bottle ended up sitting on the shelf; the only use we ever found for it was to shoot playful sprays at unsuspecting necks when we’d stumbled home drunk in the early hours. Perceive had an ultra-chemical aroma, like a laboratory musk, greasy and volatile, yet insidious. I see now that Sheldrake created it; I’d love to try it again one day 🙂

  • I love this fragrance! Upon smelling it, I recognised the perfume my best friend used at school. It’s been a very refreshing addition to my collection. I adore the resulting aroma from the fusion of pepper with flowers and a sweet touch, perhaps from the pear, plum, or both. It smells clean to me, even a bit marine, and feels very soft and wearable, fantastic for alternating with the heavy perfumes I usually adore. Next time, I’ll buy a larger bottle. Scent 8/10 Longevity 6/10 Sillage 6/10 Value for money 9/10 Versatility 9/10 Packaging 9/10 Would I buy again? Yes

I bought the perfume blindfolded, hoping I might like the blend of its notes. Lucky me for grabbing the 30 ml bottle on offer! Because it didn’t suit me at all, at least on my skin. It smells of very synthetic freesia, pepper, and cedar. I feel it’s a cheap perfume for old ladies 🙁 Its longevity is moderate, and its trail isn’t particularly wide.

I bought the perfume blind, thinking I might like the blend of its notes. What luck that I bought the 30ml bottle on offer, as I didn’t like it at all, at least on my skin. It smells of very synthetic freesia, pepper, and cedar. I perceive it as a cheap perfume for grandmothers 🙁 Its longevity is average, and its sillage isn’t very wide.

  • It’s identical to Elizabeth Arden’s Splendor, except for the neroli, which I don’t perceive in Perceive.

  • Polytheneval

I bought it blind in the year 2000 solely for the bottle. It didn’t disgust me; it was a common aroma, but now I struggle to identify the notes—imagine that, 21 years ago. The only thing I remember is that I never detected any floral notes, and several people told me they didn’t like it. Perhaps it was a matter of my skin, but in the end, I gifted it away. Maybe it just wasn’t suitable for my age.

In the distant years of the 2000s, this was gifted to my sister, who loathed it from the very first spray, so she gave it to me. At first, I was smitten by its vial—an irregular prism, lovely and eye-catching. Then I realised that was the scent I had once detected and adored, so I happily accepted it. A delight for my nose! 😍 I didn’t know its notes back then, and honestly, I don’t care now; I simply know that whenever I smell it, it lifts my spirits, makes me feel joyful, fulfilled, and brimming with energy. Despite searching high and low, I have yet to find another perfume, expensive or cheap, that makes me feel this way again.

Back in the 2000s, my sister gifted me this perfume and hated it instantly, so she passed it on to me. At first, I adored the bottle—a super pretty, irregular prism—and then I realised that was the scent I loved so much. It’s a delight for my nose; I didn’t know the notes, but I didn’t care. All I know is that every time I smell it, my spirits lift, I feel happy, fulfilled, and energised. To this day, I haven’t found any perfume, cheap or expensive, that makes me feel this way again.
