Descripción

The Artist No. 2 by Maison Alhambra is an aromatic woody fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2022, this composition features a vibrant rose and exotic saffron in its top notes. The heart reveals the depth and character of oud wood, while the base notes settle with the elegance of frankincense and the enveloping warmth of sandalwood.

Just arrived. I tested it and honestly it’s quite challenging. It has a good animalic smell. My wife definitely didn’t like it. I don’t dislike it. I’ll wait to see how it evolves.

  • It’s true that the opening is rough and a bit animalic, but it’s also true that generic scents lead us to try ‘different’ or challenging fragrances. After the first few minutes the rose becomes more noticeable, a strong and radical rose, unisex (perhaps due to the saffron? could be), of good quality, not so synthetic. The oud and incense have a timid but balanced presence, so what predominates is the mature rose; in fact, I find it more masculine than feminine. For over 35s, autumn, winter, spring nights. Blind buy? No, unless you like Arab scents and are bored with the generics. The most notable aspect is the price/quality ratio, at least here in Chile.

Moving on to a review after two days of testing. As I mentioned, my wife didn’t like it at all, though I must point out her nose is very Western, leaning towards designer. Therefore, she judges any Arab or niche scent by reference to D&G, Gucci, Dior, Armani or Tommy Hilfiger, scents made to please everyone or be indifferent, but never unpleasant. Side note: mainstream designer scents rarely use oud. That said, this perfume has me feeling conflicted. It’s not that I dislike niche (though I’m a novice) or Arabs (as one user with a Dr. House avatar said, they’re closest to niche). In fact, I have several from Lattafa, Maison Alhambra and a Rasasi. The opening is very unpleasant to me; the oud feels faecal, literally. It’s like a mix of sweet amber notes with animal excrement. My wife said it smelled like chicken droppings. That phase lasts about 20 minutes and when the oud intensity drops, other notes (rose and saffron) are felt better. While the oud remains present, it’s in the background, more moderate and bearable. To my nose, the opening is strong oud giving way to rose and saffron. The final phase remains overshadowed by the oud. This fragrance has me conflicted; at times I like it and at times I hate it and want to go shower. It evokes mystery, solitude, self-sufficiency, a man who cares little what others say. It reminds me of an old book with yellowed pages and dust. Since I saw Carlos on his channel, it would be a dupe of Frédéric Malle’s The Moon, which is atomic and fills rooms, so I proceed to apply it very controlled (one spray on neck and wrists). In summary: Longevity 10/10, quasi-eternal, lasts 15 hours on skin and clothes. That can be a plus or a minus. Sillage 10/10, quite heavy though I applied little. Projection 10/10, projects most of its life span over an arm’s length. Considering I applied little. Versatility 3/10, very little indeed. Not for summer under any circumstances. For work or daily wear? I don’t know. Whoever wears this must not mind opinions. But with heat it would be unbearable. I don’t see using this with a guayabera, bermuda and flip-flops. More appropriate for cold climates, cold nights. Originality 1/10, it’s a copy of The Moon, so it goes along that line. Would I recommend? Honestly no. Blind buy? Not on a stick. If I’d been able to smell it before, I wouldn’t have bought it. I’m not saying it’s bad, but it’s challenging (especially at first) and not very versatile. Would I buy it again? Honestly with this one I think I’ll have it for years, because if I use it, yes, I will. But unless it macerates and changes for the better, I doubt I’ll buy it again, having so many other more enjoyable alternatives.

  • Marvellous exquisite perfume… I bought it blind and it sits fabulously on my skin, potent and challenging for real men. Very masculine, a bit animalic, but it softens gradually, sweetly in its dry-down transforming elegantly. I have no regrets about the purchase… but I don’t recommend buying it blind.

  • Second review after a few weeks of use. I still maintain that the opening isn’t usually liked, but after several uninterrupted days something has changed. I don’t know if it’s air in the bottle (oxygenation) or my nose is more cultured, but I do feel the opening is less faecal and animal than at first. The development also feels better; the rose is more noticeable and the oud is more tolerable, providing a good counterpoint to the star note. Now I feel it’s more elegant and distinguished than most mainstream scents. I’ve read it’s a clone of Frédéric Malle’s ‘Promise’ (Turkish rose and castoreum). In summary, I think it was worth buying, but I recommend not buying without trying.

  • I picked this up for €20 along with The Artist 1. TA2 smells weak; it comes out smelling like cheap blackcurrant drink; the other notes it declares are left only in the advertising. In short, these are the first and last Arab fragrances I’ll buy. Might suit a woman, but for a bloke it’s unbearable. Doesn’t seem masculine at all. I trusted Carlos Rubio’s recommendation, and if The Moon smells like this, I’ll save my money and go for a proper men’s fragrance, not for a ‘friend’ who isn’t clear about their sexuality.

  • Wonderful aroma for the price, totally unisex but highly recommended for men who don’t need to smell ‘macho’ to feel secure in their sexuality.

  • Arrived today and the opening is, by the way, curious. Not a blind buy. The start is potent: an animalic oud with a very marked faecal note mixed with roses, as if you were in a stable with floral air freshener. That said, as others comment, once it settles it’s wonderful. It lingers with a beautiful animalic oud and roses, a combination that personally fascinates me. Still, I recommend getting a decant before the full bottle. The longevity is top-notch; I’ve just showered and it’s still on my skin, and I don’t have skin where perfumes last long.

  • The opening is somewhat difficult, but one just has to wait a moment for it to settle. It smells of roses and red fruits with oud wood. It is elegant and its quality is very good, especially given its low price of 30-35€. If you are used to commercial fragrances, it will be complicated for you, but if you have experience, you will probably like it; if you have already tried scents like Amouage Interlude, it will seem like a piece of cake to you. For the price, I would recommend buying it just for the olfactory experience. Dior Oud Isahan or its clone L’Ohud by Maison Alhambra seem similar to this in a feminine version, or so it seems to me.

In small towns, we do not have Frederic Malle perfumes within reach to compare. But this scent is beastly. I know several perfumes from the Emirates loaded with chemicals and artificiality; this is not the case. Quality-price ratio, among the best. It reminds me of the faecal and animalic tones of Cuoium by Orto Parisi.

  • It projects moderately for the first hour and then fades to skin scent. The rose is very noticeable in that first hour and is exquisite. Second test: it projects well for half an hour and then fades until it projects no more after the first hour. It lasted 3 hours in total every time I tested it.

Does anyone believe @JordiLV that this was his first and last Arabic perfume? Hahaha. The Moon is more complex. Oud is difficult to imitate; this inspiration could have used a bit less rose and added nutmeg or cinnamon. Quite rich anyway.

  • With my first review: as a fellow reviewer says, it opens with an intense animalic smell, like a stable smelling of roses. To give you an idea, much stronger than Kouros. After 20 minutes, the intense smell disappears and leaves roses and a bit of saffron, very pleasant. Generally, it is soft. The longevity is 5-6 hours and a couple more on the skin. In the end, it becomes sweet. It is unisex, but leaning masculine. It is not for everyone, but I like it. A couple of months later: it has improved, the opening is no longer so animalic and is more bearable.

  • In my experience, the opening is extremely complex thanks to the oud. It is my first oud perfume and definitely not for everyone. The first impressions were average: neither did I like it nor did I dislike it, but the opening had a chemical touch. I applied a decant spray and it lasted 4 hours. The scent is very powerful, almost animalic. Very interesting, but it made me feel very insecure; it reached me, tired me out, bothered me, and gave me nausea. The resinous wood of the oud is very noticeable, and the rose is faint. I am not an enthusiast, so I probably dislike it due to lack of knowledge, but I find it valuable to share all types of experiences.

  • In my experience, the opening is extremely complex thanks to the oud. It is my first oud perfume and definitely not for everyone. My first impressions were average; neither did I like it nor did I dislike it. I was struck by the slightly chemical opening. I applied a decant spray and it lasted about four hours. The scent is very potent and animalistic. Without a doubt, it is interesting, but it made me feel very insecure. During those four hours, the smell reached me, tired me out, harassed me, and gave me nausea. The oud wood is very noticeable, resinous, and the rose scent mentioned on the website is barely detectable. I am not an enthusiast or a connoisseur, so it is probable that I dislike it due to lack of knowledge. Nevertheless, I find it valuable that experiences of all kinds are shared.

  • To me, it smells of bitter rose, perhaps due to the chemicals mimicking oud. It projects a lot and lasts a fortune for the price; it seems unparalleled. It has a very strong scent and is not for everyone; if you can, try it before, although for the price…

  • I do not know if it has been reformulated, but I did not find it animalic or faecal. Although it uses economical ingredients, it smells of accorded oud. It is potent and can be overwhelming with more than three sprays. The rose and red fruits are noticeable but overshadowed by the oud. The truth is a bargain: great quality for the price. I would have liked that stable vibe because I do not have perfumes that give that experience. My review is from late 2025, without letting it macerate, and it is very potent. Edited: after a month of maceration, it gained power and I now detect the faecal oud smell. I like it for the experience I do not have in any other perfume; I am surprised because, once it settles, it has a niche aroma.

  • This perfume is a bomb. It is one of the least commercial scents I have smelled to date. It lingers all day; I can’t stop detecting it. I haven’t tested it on another skin, but those around me say it projects massively. My wife has given me compliments (though she always tries to make me feel good), but the rest haven’t said anything nice. Don’t buy it blindly if you don’t like dark oud. I love the poetry it inspires: every time I wear it, I evoke a certain dark sensuality, a man in a black shirt who meets a girl one night and sleeps with her without seeing her again, except to arrange another tryst hahaha. Perhaps it evokes other sensations in others, but my brain goes down that route.

  • This perfume is a bomb and the least ‘mass appealing’ I have ever smelled. I feel it constantly, with immense projection; my wife has complimented it, though she always tries to make me feel good. No one else has given it good reviews. Do not buy it blind if you do not enjoy dark oud. I like the poetry it inspires: it evokes dark sensuality, a man in a black shirt meeting a girl one night and sleeping with her without seeing her again, except to arrange another tryst. Perhaps it will generate other sensations for you, but my brain goes down that route.

  • Perfumery is a universe, not a world; holding absolute opinions is impossible. What is divine to me might be a ‘meh’ to you, as every skin, occasion, and purpose transforms a fragrance. You cannot expect the same from an extract as from an EDT, nor compare a refined niche scent with a quick-sale clone. If I buy an Arabic dupe, I accept its ingredients and maceration. There are no two identical results on two people or at two different times. If I had infinite money, I would buy everything from Frederic Malle or Amouage, but due to circumstances, I stick with Lattafa, Armaf, or Rasasi. I encourage the fanatics: wearing perfume takes effort and money. Like darts, out of five blind buys, the one that hits is the unforgettable one.
