Descripción
The Library Collection Opus VIII by Amouage is an oriental woody fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2014, this composition was created by Pierre Negrin and Richard Herpin. The top notes unfold with jasmine, orange blossom, and ylang-ylang; the heart reveals frankincense, guaiac wood, saffron, ginger, and vetiver; while the base notes complete the structure with black pepper and benzoin.

The opening is confusing and difficult, with a green jasmine and a harsh base that doesn’t grab you at all initially. It gradually softens as the ylang joins the jasmine and a vanilla-benjuí, all sitting on a woody base that prevents it from feeling 100% feminine. It dries down to a powdery ylang mixed with the florals, quite floral overall. I see it as unisex but leaning towards women; while it lasts well, it doesn’t quite match the usual standard of Amouage. Personally, it hasn’t convinced me—the opening is poor and the scent conveys nothing to me. I’d recommend it to ylang and jasmine fans at least to try the middle and final phases.

A bold opening for this one, with that jasmine at full volume and a pyrotechnic touch that smells distinctly feminine at first. But after five minutes it settles, letting the ginger, vetiver and woods emerge. Jasmine and frankincense take centre stage, with the rest of the notes playing supporting roles. It’s a good fragrance that evolves from feminine to a spectacular masculine unisex scent. Perfect for all year round except summer, as it’s dense and you wouldn’t wear it with sweat. Another triumph from Amouage, aimed at those over 35, not for beginners or fans of Acqua di Gio. Scent 8/10, trail 8.5/10, projection 8.5/10 and longevity 8/10.
