Ciel Pour Femme by Amouage is a floral fragrance for women. Launched in 2003, this composition was created by perfumer Lucas Sieuzac. The olfactory pyramid unfolds with top notes of cyclamen, Persian violet, gardenia and violet leaves; a floral heart formed by water lily, jasmine, peach blossom and rose; and a woody, spiced base that combines musk, sandalwood, incense, cedar and amber.

It is one of my favourite Amouage fragrances. It is perfect, delicate, and elegant. It tells you: ‘I am luxury, but I won’t overwhelm you’. It’s intimate, feminine, fresh, and has a strong presence, ideal for any time of day and season. UFFF… I adore it!
English reviews have largely overlooked this fragrance, but it is a hidden gem. Towards the end of summer, when it’s not so hot, the ozonic, almost aquatic floral blend of Ciel shines through. Water lily takes the lead, sometimes creating a breeze of water, other times a pure floral breeze, and at others a woody breeze. Amouage loves playing with surprises depending on the season, humidity, or time of day. For me, right now, it’s incredible. At first, the violet leaves compete with the lilies, and in the end, those lilies with a smoky incense touch make the sandalwood and cedar shine even more. It’s a total experience.
I have a theory that what I smelled years ago, when I was 13, was either a fake or a generic sample labelled just ‘Ciel’, as I haven’t found anything identical since. Although I can’t confirm it to 100%, the memories align: it smelled of plush white, clean, with that soapy lotus note that feels sweet and watery, blended with the wood of sandalwood. It evokes stepping on warm, wet wood under the sun, with that flower and jasmine floating in the pure air. It was described as delicate, crystal-clear, and velvety. I’m 31 now and haven’t forgotten that scent; it wasn’t a bomb, but I loved it immensely and still haven’t heard anything quite like it.
