Givenchy Play Eau de Toilette by Givenchy is an aromatic citrus fragrance for men. Launched in 2008, this composition was created by Emilie Coppermann and Lucas Sieuzac. The top notes unfold with bitter orange, grapefruit, bergamot and mandarin; the heart reveals coffee, pepper, white cuaba flower and tobacco flower; while the base notes settle on vetiver and patchouli.

I love this EDT. It is masculine, I admit it, I reserve it to smell on men. Soft, with the right dose of citrus (bitter orange and grapefruit) that combine brilliantly with that tobacco flower or coffee note… spectacular! Delicious, it provokes smelling it on a man’s skin. The white guava gives it personality and the base is super sexy up close, very rich. It is well balanced, long-lasting and not annoying. Ideal for everyday wear, versatile for any weather. Well done Givenchy!

The opening is a bomb of citrus with a touch of cuaba flower that gives it an informal air. Then it becomes spiced and woody, but it keeps that predominant citrus. The dry-down disappointed me a bit; it becomes generic and loses projection quickly. Longevity is moderate with medium sillage at the start. It is casual and timeless, perfect for students or young people; it is not expensive and smells good. Ideal for a coffee with your girlfriend or going out with friends. It goes great with humid and fresh days. If you are young, don’t want to spend much and want to smell good, I recommend it 100%

  • I love how it opens with fresh orange and grapefruit, and how the woods and patchouli make it incredibly sexy. I adore it on my partner and recommend it without hesitation.

  • I’m obsessed with that fresh opening of bitter orange and grapefruit, but then the wood and patchouli make it super sexy. I use it on my partner and it is a total hit. I recommend it from the heart!

  • Authentic and masculine, EDT for men… my boyfriend wears it and it drives me crazy. I smell the white cuaba flower on his skin and it becomes very sensual… it has good sillage. Highly recommended for seducing.

I liked it, but it didn’t leave me speechless. It is difficult to find something that surprises, and although people say it doesn’t last, on my skin it lasted about six hours, which is a relief. The price seems excessive for what it gives, so I will try the Intense version. The best are the middle notes; the base becomes common and sticks to the skin. Cheers.

  • I found it in a magazine sachet and fell in love at first sight; I promised myself it would be my first perfume and so it was. Of the three I’ve tried (Polo Blue, Calvin Klein BE and this one), this is undoubtedly the favourite and I will buy another bottle, something I won’t do with the other two. It smells delicious: sweet, citrusy, fresh and elegant; I suppose the coffee and pepper give it that touch. It is a sexy perfume that, at least here in Mexico, is not very popular. It goes perfectly in warm or fresh climates because it is not heavy, ideal for everyday wear. I don’t think it is for all ages, better for between 18 and 30 years old, with an elegant informal style (jeans, trainers, shirt). Perfect for going out with a girl and leaving her smiling at your scent!

  • Givenchy Play smells of youth with a fresh woody touch. It projects the image of a young man who is neither overly formal nor stuck in sportswear, despite its citrus notes. I believe the heart, with its blend of coffee and tobacco flower, gives it personality; I’m not sure what the cuaba contributes, but it certainly adds something unique. It’s versatile and pleasant, ideal for young people as the advertising suggests. On my skin, it lasts over eight hours.

  • Givenchy Play smells youthful, woody, and fresh. It gives me the sensation of someone who uses woods with good balance: neither too formal nor so sporty despite the citrus. The heart, with coffee and tobacco flower, gives it personality; I don’t know what the cuaba smells like, but it surely adds something unique. It is versatile and pleasant, ideal for young people as suggested by the advertising. On my skin it lasts more than 8 hours.

  • That terrace you always ignore, that friend you never call, or that song you skip to hear another… Givenchy Play is the great forgotten one in my collection. I was looking for a bitter fragrance and I found it. At the opening, a very well-executed coffee note stands out on my skin, smelling of whole bean without reminding me of Starbucks. It’s surrounded by citrus with a certain sweetness, but with a very marked bitter orange peel, a note I usually hate because it often smells like rubbish bins, but here it works. That initial bitterness and masculinity fade to leave a syrupy and sweet fragrance, thanks to the white cuaba or tobacco, which give a soapy, floral, and slightly greasy touch, like the olive blossom in Armani Code. The strong coffee diffuses, something floral with pepper appears, the citrus softens, and everything balances. Despite the initial shock, it doesn’t lose its originality nor turn into a generic musky base. I like it but it doesn’t fascinate me; it’s a good and modern fragrance. The bottle and concept make me think of something energetic, but it smells very tranquil and syrupy, like a French café. It can be worn all year round, although I avoid it in winter. It has a romantic touch, ideal for quiet and relaxed nights, like a summer evening on a terrace where a light jacket is never out of place. It lasts well: with three or four sprays I’m scented for about seven hours with a notable trail at the beginning. I’ve liked it more today. Perhaps one just needs patience with forgotten fragrances to change their mind. 7.5/10.

  • Is it that terrace you always ignore, that friend you never call, or that song you skip? Givenchy Play is the great forgotten one in my collection xD. I was searching for a bitter scent and I found it. As soon as I step out, my skin reveals a very well-executed coffee note that respects the unground bean, nothing Starbucks. It comes wrapped in citrus with a natural sweetness, but with a very marked bitter orange peel. I hate that note because it smells like rubbish bins, but here it works. The opening is achieved: that initial bitterness and masculinity fade to become something silky and sweet. I attribute that sensation to white cuaba or tobacco, which add a soapy, floral, and slightly greasy touch, similar to the olive in Armani Code. The strong coffee diffuses, floral with pepper appears, the citrus softens, and everything balances. Despite the initial shock, it doesn’t lose its originality or turn into a generic musky base. I like it but I’m not fascinated; it’s good and modern. The bottle and concept make me think of something energetic, but it smells like a quiet, silky French café. Wearable all year round, except winter. It has a romantic touch, ideal for relaxed evening plans, a summer night on the terrace without a jacket xD. Longevity is good: with 3-4 sprays I last about 7 hours with notable sillage at the start. I like it more today. Perhaps one just has to stop at the forgotten ones, work on the relationship, and have patience to change impressions… 7.5/10

  • It’s a simple perfume, nothing complex. When I smell it, I feel two complementary layers: on one hand, the well-noted dry coffee bean, and on the other, the bitter orange and another non-intrusive citrus, possibly grapefruit. It stays this way for about four hours before giving way to a woody dry-down. Suitable for every day, nothing special but it does stand out from many generic perfumes.

It’s a youthful, sweet, and fresh fragrance. Personally, it’s one of the ones that feels most on the skin; I’ve had it and enjoyed it greatly. Ideal for special events, such as nights out at the pub or first dates. If you’re young, I highly recommend it.

  • I miss it. I had it over ten years ago without knowing it was no longer available, and its scent was magnificent; I haven’t heard anything similar. It didn’t have the best longevity or projection, so it was essential to replicate it. I don’t remember the price but it generated many compliments. I enjoyed it greatly because it was sweet and fresh, with citruses, coffee, and vetiver making a successful composition. I don’t know why it went unnoticed but it was fabulous for its simple, versatile, and charming aroma. Compliments: 10, Longevity: 6, Projection: 6, Price: 8, total 7.5, with bonus points for that delicious scent.

  • I miss it. I used it over ten years ago and didn’t realise it was discontinued, but its scent was magnificent; I haven’t smelled anything like it, so if anyone knows a substitute, let me know. It didn’t have the best longevity or projection, which is why replicating it was key, but it earned me many compliments. It was sweet and fresh, with citrus, coffee, and vetiver creating a winning blend. Its scent was simple, versatile, and charming. I don’t know why it went unnoticed, but it was fabulous. Compliments: 10, longevity: 6, projection: 6, price: 8, total: 7.5, plus extra points for that delicious smell.

  • Gentil vagabond

A fragrance with a dual focus: a powerful opening and a more wearable dry-down, although the coffee and very sharp pepper didn’t convince me.

  • I bought it as soon as it launched because it was trendy; I liked it but it never truly won me over. Moderate longevity and a soft sillage. It opens citrusy, then the pepper takes prominence alongside patchouli.

  • Gentil vagabond

It’s a two-faced fragrance: the opening is potent and the dry-down more bearable, although the coffee and the very sharp pepper didn’t convince me.

  • I have it again after many years; it smells delicious. The opening is citrusy, then the coffee with tobacco flower takes centre stage. A rich and distinct aroma. What a pity it’s discontinued and hard to find.

  • Miguel Vasquez Bolivar

A Givenchy for when you don’t need to project and just want to enjoy. I met it on the same day as Pi; on paper I liked its clean, floral opening, but on skin it opens with spiced citruses that seem like orange with vanilla and pepper. Then white flowers, vanilla, and a hint of coffee appear in the background. As it dries, it sweetens and floats without being cloying, moving away from blue trends. The evolution is subtle but the combination is brilliant for any nose. Its only flaw is projection, lasting about two hours at most before settling into a personal bubble. I don’t mind as it’s for work and daily wear, more daytime than nighttime. It works for casual dinners but there are better options; in extreme heat it evaporates quickly and in winter you’re invisible. I loved having a daily, versatile option, a little retro but unknown. I’m grateful to have found the 2011 vintage version; it remains soft and enjoyable despite the years.

  • Nothing comes close; every phase is a delight and the dry-down is pure gold. I have nothing more summery and woody in my collection, and I regret that this discontinued gem has been lost. It opens fresh with citruses more real than ever alongside coffee, evolves with an Amyris sandalwood, and finishes with the best vetiver I’ve ever heard. A work of art for the most incredible summer of my life.
