Descripción

Givenchy Gentleman Eau de Parfum is an aromatic woody fragrance for men. Launched in 2018, this composition was created by Olivier Cresp and Nathalie Lorson. The top notes unfold black pepper, lavender, and bergamot; the heart reveals iris root, cloves, and cinnamon; while the base notes settle on black vanilla bean, balsam of Peru, tonka bean, benzoin, and patchouli.

This is a party; it’s pure CLASS. You can tell the quality of the ingredients immediately. I recommend wearing it on cold nights, for dates, or going to a well-dressed bar. It’s spectacular.

As they say, this outshines all its siblings. Never better named GENTLEMAN. A fragrance to accompany semi-formal or higher attire for special occasions.

My choice among elegant iris fragrances. I like it quite a bit more than DHI, although I acknowledge DHI has higher aromatic quality. It feels like velvet. I also chose it over Reserve Privé because when it dries, the latter becomes too sweet and loses its distinctiveness. Excellent performance. Quite masculine, much more so than DHI. I don’t believe it’s only for nights, as some say. It’s best for cold weather and semi-formal occasions and above. However, it works perfectly at work and during the day.

Just tried it; my first impression upon spraying it reminded me of Encre Noir Extreme by the same perfumer. That same bitter, fresh green note, which I believe comes from patchouli. Here, the notes are more distinct, and they correct me if I’m wrong. It’s a creamy, sweet, chocolatey fragrance, a delight. It feels high quality; I’d wear it day or night, provided I’m well-dressed.

  • Yung Life Bby

My favourite fragrance. Smells of talc and vanilla. The iris is similar to DHI, like makeup, but in my opinion, nothing feminine. As has been said already: good projection, performance, and potency. The only drawback is that it’s not very versatile. I recommend wearing it with an appropriate outfit. 100% recommended.

Lots of cedar, vanilla, and a fair amount of iris. It dries down to dry wood, like the tip of a pencil, mixed with a sweet, chalky chocolate scent. It’s excellent, refined, and masculine. Lasts quite a while, though the projection is moderate. It’s exactly what a true Gentleman would seek. I’ve read comparisons to DHI; they’re similar, but DHI has a lipstick-like iris, whereas this has a more earthy one. The difference is refined masculinity versus an alpha vibe. I’d stick with the alpha. Recommended.

This fragrance has an incredible evolution; the longer it develops, the better it smells. The only downside is that the heavy iris note can make it feel cloying to some, smelling like pure makeup. I’d say it’s for those over 30. It’s not for clubbing, work, or general versatility. It’s for wearing well-dressed at important events or dates with someone who knows you well, otherwise, you’ll smell odd.

  • Nicolás.a.b

In my opinion, it crosses the line with its lack of versatility. You can only wear it on cold days or nights for semi-formal or formal occasions.

Simply a wonderful perfume, quality shines through everywhere. A complex, elegant, and opulent aroma. If I were to judge a perfume by its scent alone, I would value this five times more than its cost. An aldehydic and balsamic profile, with a heavy load of iris and a warm spicy base. The iris is the protagonist throughout its entire evolution, ideal for special occasions. It deserves to be worn with good clothes and personality, as it denotes class, seriousness, and mystery. The longevity is good; it doesn’t project much but lingers on the skin for over 7 hours. The bottle is beautiful and aesthetic. It is true perfumery, highly recommended.

  • A marvel of iris, vanilla, patchouli, and cinnamon, sweet and ultra-elegant. In men, it is very masculine, and in women, very feminine; that is its magic. On my skin, the dry-down is wonderful, with great class. It lasts 8 hours without issue, although it is not a projection bomb, as any luxury should be. Its price is reasonable for the quality. It is the cousin brother of Dior Homme Intense, Valentino Uomo Intense, and Prada L’Homme Intense, all with iris and undeniable quality. One reaches this perfume when the time is right. Try it, let it dry, and if it is your moment, you will know.

  • I gifted it to my dad for his birthday; I love it. Iris and vanilla, very seductive and masculine. Recommended for cold climates, it projects a lot.

  • Josué González Céspedes

A tremendous perfume, I love Givenchy, always at the forefront. It is a delicious and super-masculine fragrance.

  • Test before buying. I respect the general opinion and understand it, but to stand up against group pressure, I must say I can’t stand it. Too overpowering. It’s a matter of pH and taste; let everyone enjoy their own perfume. For me, Reserve Privée or Boisée are more pleasant.

  • Perfumadict

Neither I nor my husband liked it. It smells outdated, not vintage, but gives off a grandfatherly aroma. Excuse me, that’s my olfactory memory. Vanilla, pepper, dry, and heavy.

  • Excellent fragrance, masculine and elegant, a delightful scent. I wore it in the heat and it performed well. If I dare to turn up the heat to make it last, it reminds me of Rocha’s Moustache.

  • FilRosendo23

Smells exactly like Hugo Boss Dark Blue. The only difference is that the Hugo comes out fresher, but they are practically the same.

  • Orlandoperfumesman

Adjectives are superfluous for this perfume delight. Exquisite in every sense; I recently acquired a Dior Homme 2011 batch 2018, and while Dior may be the pioneer in iris themes for gentlemen, this Gentleman is much, much more attractive, potent, has more trail, projects better, an absolute 10 for this perfume. Imagine a race where the two start together; Dior leaves with a load of exquisite iris wouuu undeniable until the sky, but that lasts about half an hour. Meanwhile, Gentleman EDP passes by, looks at it, and says goodbye, and continues projecting hard for at least 3 enjoyable hours, and for much less money… point for Givenchy.

  • Pff, it’s madness. Smells absolutely delicious. It’s like a Reserve Privée but softer, explosive, and more versatile. I’ve tried the original and now I’m thinking of switching because I like this one better. You can detect the iris, even though it’s not listed, which is odd. 8 out of 10.

MASTERPIECE. Something I love about works of art is when the name proposed by the artist/brand evokes exactly what is represented; here it is a clear and magnificent example, GENTLEMAN.🎩🕴🏻 SCENT. From the start, it comes with a sublime combo of orris-vanilla playing to see who is the protagonist, accompanied by balsam of tolu, a very characteristic smell that represents that peculiar elegant touch which gains prominence to last until the dry-down. In its final phase, spices (soft) make their presence with that elegant sweetness evoked by cinnamon and tonka bean, these without making the perfume scandalous/loud, rather sophisticated without being dirty, as there is a lavender in the base that doesn’t allow it, it’s a perfect balance, a composition perfectly fitted for the niche world in a commercial bottle, the quality of the ingredients is felt, worthy of GENTLEMAN. ⚜️⚫️ MOOD. A perfume enjoyed from start to finish, its longevity is excellent, easily surpassing 7 hours, ideal for what a formal event like weddings and graduations can take. The projection upon leaving is potent but not crude, which gradually diminishes and settles in a heavy/personal bubble ideal for not drawing attention at a few metres, as here you’re not a lad/youngster, you’re a GENTLEMAN.🤵🏻♂️♚

This perfume is spectacular, for me better than Reserve Privée, which although it’s also very rich, doesn’t quite convince me entirely, as on my skin I notice too much the whisky notes and find it too chocolatey, apart from the fact that it performs much worse than the EDP. This EDP is a beast in longevity; on me it lasts beyond 10 hours. A rich perfume to use in autumn and winter.

  • StarlinCollado

Among all Givenchy, this and Reserve Privée are the most similar. I have RP, and I feel that owning this would be redundant. I like it, but RP takes many points in depth and elegance.

  • RicardoPowa123

I couldn’t handle this perfume… I felt too much of clove and it reminded me of ‘smelling like a dentist’, as it smells very much like that… 🤣

  • stefanosmo

By far the best gentleman. I understand that the RP version of the line was the precursor to what happened with DHP 2025: sell, sell, sell, because iris is expensive and we’re broke. Make it more wearable and add a chocolate base or something mainstream. This EDP is categorised as for special occasions, and if so, the bottle lasts years and you’ll almost never use it. That bit from reviewers commenting ‘for a wedding, dinner, blah blah’ reduces all the opportunities you have to use this PERFUME. Just a bit of cold weather and being well-dressed is enough. Use it, as this is exquisite, just don’t abuse the blasts because it can overwhelm you as it’s a dense aroma. The dry-down (the best part) offers, from my experience, a scent I associate with the concept ‘expensive’. Pepper, iris, vanilla bean, and lavender. Nothing more.

  • ELEGANCE. If I’m asked what stands out most in this fragrance, it’s undoubtedly its refined character and the elegance of a neat, confident man. In olfactive terms, the blend of pepper, bergamot, and lavender at the start delivers that energetic punch, which later, with the iris and vanilla, becomes a completely gentlemanly aroma. Personally, I wear it almost every day in winter and autumn because it’s a delightfully charming and wearable signature scent. More potency than Reserve Privée without being as dense as DHI, a perfect balance.

  • Santo Lorenzo

Maximum elegance. If you don’t like iris, look elsewhere. I stick with Reserve Privée for its whisky and chestnut notes, but this smells spectacular too.

  • What more can be said about this fragrance that hasn’t already been said? An elegant, masculine, and polished scent. I think some exaggerate that it’s just iris; all the ingredients are perfectly balanced, with that lavender, orris, spices, and the balsam is poetry. I’d only add that reviewers insist it’s for special occasions; I disagree slightly, I think a semi-formal outfit is enough. Keep in mind the number of sprays; it can be overwhelming if overapplied in enclosed spaces. Scent: 10/10, Projection: 8/10, Longevity: 10/10 (on skin more than 10 hours).

  • Gentleman Eau de Parfum is elegance that bites. Dark without being lugubrious, sensual without being vulgar, masculine without falling into clichés. A perfume that doesn’t seduce: it possesses. And when you take it off, there’s still something of yours left… trapped in the air.

I have a bottle from the 2020 batch and it’s the richest thing I’ve ever tried; I bought a 2024 batch bottle and it’s disappointing (compared to the other). It’s still a rich fragrance, but I’m heartbroken they reformulated it for no apparent reason. If I cross paths with a 2020 batch bottle, I’ll buy it without hesitation. The current one is still very good, but anyone who knew the previous formula will likely agree. If you can’t get the 2020 batch, buy it anyway because it’s still worth it; it’s an exquisite fragrance. As for usage, it goes perfectly with a nice sweater and jeans. I don’t think it’s just for special occasions, nor is it for wearing with nothing on. It’s elegant, but you don’t need to be in a suit to wear it. Well-dressed, normal, and it’s more than enjoyable.

  • Leonardo Amico

It’s a perfume that fails; it has that seductive, dark, sensual aroma that gentlemen have. In Rouge de Liniers it was quite cheap for how good it is, and not only that, but it’s not as suffocating as Gentleman Privé, which is more for someone bigger—this one isn’t. Madness what it provokes in me: sensual but not too serious, elegant but not overly gothic. Solid 8.75.

  • JoseMartin

A fragrance that lives up to its name; it has presence, makes itself felt without being invasive to others. The scent is more than just iris; I clearly perceive cinnamon and cloves as supporting players, plus a slightly sweet touch from vanilla and tonka bean, which for me provide a perfect balance. It shines best on cold days, with good longevity (8 hours) and a moderate trail.

Gentleman Eau de Parfum is an elegant proposition within designer perfumery. It opens with powdery iris, lavender and an alcoholic accord that adds a seductive air, enhanced by a slight spicy bite. From the base, a warm, creamy blend of vanilla and tonka emerges, balancing the composition very well. Over time, the iris softens, giving way to a resinous, slightly sweet and comforting mix. The initial alcoholic accord fades, revealing a smooth, wearable base. It has a distinctive air that recalls, without imitating, Serge Lutens’ Vétiver Oriental. I’ve finished a 15mL bottle and would certainly repurchase it in a larger size. Rating: 4/5 – Excellent.

  • Wear it with plenty of personality; don’t abuse the sprays or you’ll overwhelm everyone (just kidding), and in fact, it steals the show from other perfumes around you. Good longevity and trail. Very dark. If you prefer something more subtle, go for Reserve Privé, which also has good staying power.

  • albertodeline

Whenever I smell a great fragrance, Olivier Cresp is behind it. My two favourites are Armand Basi and Esencia de Loewe… this is another marvel. I detect a hint of Whiskito. I adore the balsam of Peru; I’d make a perfume with just that note, but it gives me an allergy… here, I love it. With cinnamon, benzoin and vanilla, it’s cinematic.

  • They’ve reformulated it; I tried it again and it lacks projection and staying power. Years ago it was an absolute beast of orris and cardamom, now it smells like talcum powder and vanilla—a terrible formula or batch. They’ve ruined it; the current version of Reserve Privé is better.

  • As others have said, they’ve definitely reformulated it. It lasted longer and smelled deeper before. It’s still a good perfume, but be warned: it no longer has the same longevity.
