At first it smells like coffee or chocolate, both of which I dislike in perfumes. Then it started to smell like old makeup. The more I wore it on my skin, the more horrendous it became; there’s no other adjective. I tried to find a similarity with a product I liked to make it more bearable, but there was no way. The next day I decided to try it again, as I give perfumes several chances, but with this one I was already scared to prepare myself for the nauseating smell of the previous day. To make matters worse, I had a headache and this perfume made it worse. In the end there was no way to make me like it. I will avoid any perfume that resembles how Ange ou l’Aube smelled on me for the rest of my life.
I wanted this perfume in my collection, I was so excited to have it in my hands. When I first smelled it, I fell in love with its aroma, but then as it passed it became very strong, like an older lady’s scent. I discarded it immediately because I felt it was too heavy for me.
Spicy, vanilla and elegant. Powerful opening with incredible trail and projection thanks to the combination of saffron, thyme and mandarin, giving it a balanced citrus note. Floral in the heart and in the dry down that exquisite vanilla sweetness; the depth and mystery come from tonka bean, Brazilian rosewood and oakmoss. A true delight, a joyful punch to the nose that keeps you hypnotised and knocked out for the entire life of the fragrance, around twelve hours. Projects to two metres for the first three or four hours, then decreases but remains. Definitely one of my favourites. Blind buy? No, because it’s not for every nose. It’s a fragrance with a lot of character and you need to have it to wear it. Not suitable for young girls, more for women from 25 years onwards who like invasive fragrances, those that turn heads for sure.
I quite like it; it’s vanilla, spicy and powdery, very special. I understand why it’s not for everyone. It’s not vintage, just not one of those typical scents everyone likes. I mainly smell saffron and thyme, sweetened with vanilla and ilang ilang. I’ve heard it on my mother’s friends (over 60), but I, at 20, would wear it. I’m not sure if I’d buy it because I think I wouldn’t get to use it up; I’d only wear it at night on special, elegant occasions. But I like it and the quality is excellent.
Bought this perfume blind and then regretted it; I couldn’t stand it. I gave it to my daughter. Definitely I can’t handle the saffron note; it makes my stomach turn. It’s one of those that must be smelled before buying.
I met it five years ago as a surprising, intense retro that made a statement of presence and elegance. A few days ago I wanted to try it again and found the unpleasant news that it had been reformulated. That word usually means a drop in quality, impoverished notes and a higher price for mediocre performance. That’s exactly what happened. Now Ange ou l’Aube is a bland juice smelling of baby powder with similar longevity. We know laboratories change formulas for hypoallergenic, vegan or cheaper ingredients, which shouldn’t affect quality or originality so much. Hopefully chemistry will continue to seek to recover the experience and stop making splash-style perfumes for post-shower use.
Incredible. I’ve known it since launch and despite two reformulations it remains a great perfume, different from current trends. I love it for that: it’s distinct, addictive and sensual, suitable for all seasons. Lasts almost all day. The projection is two hours or more. I’d say the reformulated version is more wearable.
I was searching for something to surprise me, tried many decants and nothing until I found this. It’s not among my favourite scents, but when I tried it, I felt every part of my brain activate with each note. My senses went into overdrive. I insist, it’s not what I usually wear, but DEFINITELY it will be part of my collection. It’s magical, elegant and perfect for standing out.
I really wanted it to be what I expected, but it wasn’t. As soon as I smelled it, I knew it wasn’t sweet or vanilla-based as I thought; it just smelled of very vintage white flowers. Not what I was looking for.
Bought it blind three years ago and the saffron gave me a headache at first. Didn’t quite convince me, but I didn’t want to throw it away. Recently I wore it again and it doesn’t make me dizzy anymore; I absolutely love how it captivates my senses. I’ve worn it for days and I’m in love. Finally, it has won over its audience and it’s so relaxing. It’s unique, not one of the typical ones, which I like. Lasts for ages on the skin, even after a shower.
I can only say: I fell in love with this wonderful perfume. It was one of those loves you never realise were always there. I looked for it on purpose thanks to the fragrance YouTuber Amber Black; after years of following her I found out we have almost the same opinions and tastes. She shared her first time smelling it and fell in love so I thought: I must smell it because if we share tastes… And that was it. It will be my next acquisition. I’m not a great lover of Givenchy collections their personalities don’t usually suit me so I never noticed Ange ou Démon. How much was I missing out on? It’s one of the few fragrances that from its release has hooked me. I perceive saffron that then transforms into a strong but delicate lily of the valley with orchids finishing wrapped in vanilla wood and moss. My receptors pick this up and what a pleasure because although I’m gourmand I demand that the sweet side has seriousness security and personality. I’ve fallen in love with the Angel and the Demon because the angel wraps you in soft white flowers while the demon incites you to tonka bean and oak. I really saw sense in the name: it has sweetness but seriousness something hard to find. It’s for going dressed up although it would serve for daily wear but personally I think it’s more for the night and seriousness at the same time as youthful. You must smell it. Little more to say: there’s nothing I’ve disliked about this marvel. It has surprised me and has become an unforgettable in my collection.
Ange ou Démon surprised me and the surprise was very gratifying. I tested it in store a few months ago with warm weather; I don’t know if the tester was faulty or the climate made it evaporate quickly but I only caught a touch of lily of the valley and that was it. That day I also tested The Only One and I was surprised to feel more of the TOO than AoD 😩. I’ve always been attracted to this mysterious and striking bottle; that black gradient gives me something that drop shape 💧 seems like the bottle a witch from the world of King Arthur would wear hanging at her waist… But time passed I saw a good online promotion and added to the moderate hype on social media as a perfume that lasts days it was a ‘I must have it’. We’re in autumn 🍁 and with it in my hands wow… the first spray is wonderful finally I can smell that famous vanilla that aromatic point I suppose gives the thyme and saffron… the lily of the valley stands out much on my skin. To finish: it is NOT in the least a vintage scent. I must reiterate so more girls feel encouraged to use this wonderful aroma and worthy classic by Givenchy. It has elegance but also serves for a date with your guy going to the cinema or going out with friends. I see it for everything; less for work or going to the supermarket leave it for less mundane things. I’ll keep testing this potion to see if the hype about its longevity and trail is real. Ciao mininos 🫶
This was love at first sniff. I met it back in 2011. A work colleague with similar tastes wore it one day. It was so delicious I asked which it was and she said Ange ou Démon. I went to a multi-store tested it on skin and what madness I loved it. The problem was the price; I wasn’t doing well financially and finally couldn’t buy it. Now it’s in my collection and remains one of my favourites. Spiced sweet seductive dark sensual. I feel it’s unique I use it when I want to stand out. Plus it lasts all day and on clothes until you wash them. For me 10/10.
Ugh what happened to this perfume for God’s sake? A disaster. I had millilitres of the original juice left in an old bottle and decided to go for another without realising about the reformulations. Thank goodness I asked for a tester to try before buying: it’s a no. The scent isn’t that bad but it has nothing to do with what I was looking for. I understand my bottle has mature (and beautiful) liquid but how can it be? The original is a saffron and vanilla powdered cream with touches of tangerine peel; this new one is a mess of citrus that doesn’t even fit. Alas when it dries down it gets closer in some way. Should I buy it anyway? Is it the last hope? Will another reformulation happen to get closer? Or will they discontinue it forever? I understand those who like it. I repeat: it’s not that bad now more unisex than before but for those who knew and loved the original this is almost a crime.
The only thing I can say is that for me it has been: ‘how to get a horrible headache and feel unwell with a simple spray’. 💀
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE? Few perfumes have made me feel that wow and I terribly regret not knowing it sooner despite knowing about it since its launch in fashion magazines. Still with the WOW: it’s a bottle full of powdered orchids in vanilla. I always struggle to put words to those I love and this is no exception. On first sniff it seemed like new plastic (sometimes I still get that hint) but with wear I discovered it’s like using Cori Passion (the dupe for Alien that beats it hands down) with a drop of vanilla and tonka bean. A marvel! If the question is whether it’s an angel or a demon with its day or night use it becomes ideal for a formal meeting something casual or the jewel of a romantic date at night. Thank you Givenchy for this beauty.
Ideal for cold days and nights it feels like a warm embrace. It’s sweet and mysterious; the spices and woods give it body and a dark creamy touch complemented by the orchid which adds that floral creaminess. I have it in decant because I wanted to try it and it definitely goes on my wishlist.
What a delight! Today I went hunting for it on sale because in my country it exceeds $150 USD 😒😕 that’s what designer perfumes cost in South America. I searched in two department stores and in the last one I found it with a 40% discount 🥳. Finally I have it. It’s special different mysterious creamy vanilla woody and very spicy especially elegant. It’s totally out of the ordinary. When I bought it several girls stopped to ask what it smelled like because the aroma floated in the air. I’ll use it for evening commitments and cold days. Try before you buy because you can love or hate it. For me 10 out of 10. Tip: try it on skin and let it sit for a while.
Bestial longevity and trail but it’s not for everyone. It’s very vintage has an ingredient that doesn’t quite convince me although vanilla predominates. It smells mysterious femme fatale. I think it’s original because I haven’t found any dupe; it’s rare and hard to imitate at least in Argentina but I haven’t stood it: I find it heavy and it doesn’t quite convince me. If you want something that lasts two days this is yours.
A confusing perfume. It has a demonic, stinging, and scorpion-like opening; the saffron and thyme are extremely noticeable, giving an aroma similar to camphor, very mentholated. It takes time to calm down; for at least an hour, everything is that aroma, which to me seems like Eden, very vintage and super invasive, and then gives way to its angelic side, where the lily and vanilla emerge, transforming into a summer beach with wet salty sand and sunscreen. After three hours, it seems like another perfume, creamy, vanilla-fied, soft, angelic, with no traces of that demon it emerged from. The settled perfume seems beautiful, but that saffron and thyme note from the first spray makes me question whether I would use it. I have a miniature; I will give it other opportunities. As a first encounter, it has been quite intense.
From the olfactive pyramid with luck I detect the vanilla and rosewood due to its woody character; I can’t identify the rest. It’s not for everyone: whoever wears it must have an overwhelming personality and a strong character because it is dark dense and imposing. I bought it twice: in 2012 after a breakup I was looking for something aphrodisiac nocturnal that would turn me into a demon without that smell of good girl or watermelon. Once I’d saved up the money (which here doesn’t drop below $100) I got it and applying it while laden with sadness I felt possessed. The notes gave me unimaginable security a desire to discover the night and left a trail that made people ask what I was wearing. It was mysterious to the opposite sex it soaked into clothes for 24 hours even after washing. As the name says it became my favourite for months: a demon by night an angel by day. With a new relationship I left it behind; it hurt but I had to move on. In 2023 I bought it again to feel that security from 10 years ago but nothing was the same: I didn’t connect it seemed boring and soulless. Did they reformulate it? Did they change the notes? Did I buy an expired batch? Or perhaps I only connected then because of the stage and a broken heart…
Intense and elegant aroma. Not youthful, rather for an elegant lady aged 35+ (as it settled on my skin). It is intense; you can smell the vanilla and saffron. They gave it to me as a gift at 23 and I didn’t like it, but now at 34 I love it; I wear it when going out at night. If you don’t like very intense aromas, it is not for you.
The aroma is original, different, and striking. The longevity and sillage are a disaster. I can’t justify spending 70 euros on 50 ml and not having any longevity; it is a fraud. I don’t understand how a house like Givenchy could do something like this. I will not buy it again and do not recommend it at all.
I bought it blindly because a review described it as vanilla, elegant, mysterious, and vibrant. And upon using it, I feel the opposite; I feel like an older lady. Well, it is a good fragrance; I imagine it on a well-off lady meeting friends for tea at a nice café, eating sweet snacks, perhaps a raspberry macaron or a lemon pie. I smell very little vanilla, but it has a generally clean, spicy floral aroma.
I don’t like it because the opening is quite strong; the saffron and thyme smell half sweet and half spicy. The truth is, if you like spicy notes, it is nice, but I suffered through it.
It disappointed me greatly because the opening is very strong and lasts all day; I had to shower to get rid of it because I couldn’t bear it. It also gave me a vintage vibe; honestly, I expected something else.
I think it is a good perfume; it smells very well and is long-lasting.
Despite following the page for years, this is the first time I am reviewing this because I don’t understand the negative criticism of this wonderful fragrance. It is fascinating, long-lasting, enveloping, deep, and noticeable, as all perfumes should be. Its name suits it perfectly with its tender flowers and intense spices; a sensual aroma that is sometimes delicate. Made to enchant a few, as if he seduced you because you liked him. Its tonka bean, lily, spices, and flowers create a beautiful duality. The best part: it wasn’t made to please everyone, and that fascinates me.
If you want something that lasts, buy this. It lasts for days. The downside is that it is very ladylike, nothing youthful. The saffron is too prominent and the vanilla isn’t very balanced with that note. But if you are looking for something that projects a lot and lasts, I highly recommend it, especially considering the price.
It was my night signature for six years, from 19 to 25. I switched to Alien, which is rich, but now at 35 I have it back again and I love it. It smells vintage yet is perfect, lasts forever, and is beautiful. It suits me exquisitely on the skin; such lovely memories.
To my taste, the Givenchy house has excellent quality in perfumery, my favourite. I love this perfume! Its complexity, its duality. Nothing resembles it. I feel wrapped up every time I wear it. Yes, it’s not easy; I know, sometimes it’s heavy and hard to decipher, but that’s the marvel. That it doesn’t resemble or have a dupe, that it’s unique. I enjoy it so much.
When it comes to quality, Givenchy never fails and this case is no exception. There is quality and good taste here. I like to enjoy the evolution. On the opening, I do note the saffron with the thyme. The floral blend is perfect, they dance to the same tune, none predominates, I feel flashes of all three. Although in the base it carries vanilla and habanone, I never feel it sweet, but rather woody, with a touch of cinnamon and an almond-like powder. I know it from a decant I used three times; without a doubt, if I find it on offer I’ll buy it because it’s a unique scent.
Another infamous reformulation!
Pure and absolute glory! I had this gentleman perfume completely forgotten. I’ve had one since I arrived in Mexico and only used it a couple of times (I used to save it for special occasions). Now, looking for something to wear after a hot shower on a cold night, voila! This shone at the bottom of the closet 😇😈. I applied just a little (less than with current perfumes)… GOD! I had completely forgotten its scent! It shines immediately: a citrus with something more and a flower not commonly found in 2025. Of course, I ran to check what’s declared and it’s that thyme that perfectly complements the citrus. WOW! That lily mixed with warm vanilla, but with ylang-ylang which is my favourite, all well-rounded. It doesn’t smell like plain vanilla because it’s very rounded with tonka and woods. I could say it has a hint of civet or forbidden materials, because its scent says it all. Very in the style of the big perfumes I loved at 15 (now I’m 50): Obsession, Poison, Colors… that kind of style. When they were indecipherable and unguessable, not like now when everything smells like marshmallows. I don’t know if it’s still available, but it’s not for those used to it if you’re young. It’s so sensual it makes me feel dancing and floating in red-soled heels. Obviously it’s nocturnal and for cold days. Very narcotic, very passionate, it makes you feel like another woman. It makes you feel empowered, ready to shout to the world who you are. What a thing! I’ll use it to go out soon. 1000 out of 1000. If you want to see reviews, follow me on TikTok. ATTE. AROMADICCIONES.
I’m surprised how, unless you’re trained in those vintage memories of mothers or grandmothers, it can sound clean yet ‘creamy’. With vanilla-type scents, caramel usually appears in the notes, but it shouldn’t happen here. On my skin, as it dries, it’s lactonic and metallic, what’s going on? Does it happen to others? I love that in the background it gives me wet earth and night-blooming flowers that only open at night… it’s a marvel. I wear the perfume at home to notice those nuances; outside, it smells like a clean, spiced floral, but if you pay attention, it’s madness.
I wish I could agree with the good reviews, but this perfume is a resounding no.
It’s horrible. I try to like it because it was a gift, but there’s no way. It smells very bitter, nothing like the seductive description, ideal for night or nothing at all. If you wear this, run. Although on my skin it’s less strong than on others, I still can’t get used to it.
Although the notes don’t list rice, it smells of spiced rice steam with vanilla. It’s mysterious, warm and sweet without being cloying, deep yet not intrusive. Unique and I absolutely love it.
What a beautiful and special fragrance, not for everyone. Its intensity and complexity are striking; it’s warm, super intense and spiced, with a powdery, almost angelic dry-down as its name suggests. For a woman with character, nothing princess-like. The trail and longevity are brutal. I suspect they’ve changed the original formula, but it still fascinates me after years of wearing it. Without a doubt, one of my favourites.
It’s a dark and complex jewel, a personal marvel, but beware: never buy blindly or gift it; it’s far too particular for others’ tastes.
