Play For Her by Givenchy

A superbly balanced perfume, easy to wear, equally fresh and sweet. It has a touch of innocence and is very feminine.

I bought it seven years ago; now, in 2024, it has already lost some of its original scent. That was stored in a dark place, but I wouldn’t buy it again.

A very pleasant and fresh fragrance. I don’t detect any fruity notes on me, only the florals. It still has many imitations.

Why Givenchy, why? What made you decide to put this spectacular perfume out of business so abruptly? I met it ten years ago (and bought it) in a perfumerie in Panama thanks to the sales assistant. As I had never tried anything from Givenchy, she convinced me. More than the advertising, it was Justin Timberlake switching the lights on and off in Paris from the Eiffel Tower… Rich perfume, easy to wear, attractive, pleasant for the day and elegant for the night. While I loved it, it wasn’t one of my favourites. When I found out it had been discontinued, I learned to value it. I regret using it so casually for so many years, as if its production were infinite, without imagining they would discontinue it so abruptly. They did the same with the flanker of Ange ou Demon, Le Secret Elixir, my sister’s signature perfume, and I have been looking for a replacement for such a gem for years.

I don’t understand why Givenchy discontinued such a wonderful bestseller. They told me it’s due to fashion and trends. They still sell Amarige, which is fifty years old, and release this. It’s incomprehensible. I’ll always love it.

I can’t believe this fragrance has been discontinued; it’s simply exquisite, with an excellent trail and a longevity of up to twelve hours.

1st Prize for the best composition of recent years. I’m calling for the death penalty on those who decided to discontinue it.

It was a gift and they got it right. It doesn’t drive me wild but it’s pleasant: I detect peach, soft florals and creaminess from the start. The benzoin also gives warmth at first before fading. In spring it smells of sweet peach, in summer the flowers take centre stage. I haven’t tried it in winter; I don’t think it suits cold days.

Play is almost identical to Play Intense; they’re very similar, so if you have one, the other is superfluous. To me, it’s pretty, simple and easy to understand. At first I sensed the peach, then some powdery florals. I find it cosy, I suppose because of the tonka bean. I loved it, but as I already have the Intense, I’ll settle for a decant.

It smells delicious; pink pepper predominates, balancing the spice with floral notes and softly spiced with tonka bean. I don’t notice the peach as such, but it’s slightly sweet, nothing cloying. It’s a floral and fruity blend, very youthful without being just another fruity fragrance; it has its own essence. The only BUT is that the longevity is poor and the trail very soft; you have to reapply during the day. For the price, I would have hoped for better performance; it’s a shame because the aroma was wonderful. Edit: I confirm it changes greatly with temperature. In warm climates the projection can be strong, but then it becomes soft and lasts 6-8 hours. Much better performance in high temperatures.

Bought it blind and it stuck with me; strange to go without testing it first. Smells like Black XS, I love the powdery note. One flaw: it doesn’t last on skin or clothes, although Play Intense might. In short, I liked it hugely and it’s now my favourite.

I’m not good at describing scents, but I recognise and never forget fragrances. I adore sweet notes; I swore it was oriental or vanilla-based. I love all the Plays!

I like it a lot; it smells of blackberries. I’d recommend it to young women who want to look sophisticated. Note: given the price, the trail is light and the longevity minimal, like almost all of them nowadays.

Well, something particular happens to me: it smells good and clean. It’s not long-lasting, fair enough, nothing extraordinary. It’s not something I’d die for; in fact, I have samples and don’t even use them.
