Black XS for Her by Rabanne is a woody floral musky fragrance for women. Launched in 2007, this composition was created by Emilie Coppermann and Mark Buxton. What a perfume! I bought it because I thought the bottle was lovely and I assumed its scent (very strong and long-lasting on my skin) would fade… No! It never did, and I partly thank it because after returning from an outing smelling of cigarette smoke and tobacco, it was still there, present, as if freshly applied.
It was my first perfume and I loved it with my life (to the point that I used it every day). The other flankers are good, but this perfume was me in my teenage version. It has very good fixative and projection. It’s a sweet scent but not cloying, which constantly reminds me of spiced chocolate.
A nocturnal, spicy, sexy and mysterious perfume. The predominant note is a delicate rose wrapped in pepper, which balances it very well. I don’t feel it as a very sweet fragrance. A touch of blackcurrant and wood; the mixture of these notes makes it mysterious, sexy and addictive. Men like it a lot. I see it on a sexy but rebellious girl. It doesn’t have a wide projection, but it has excellent longevity.
This perfume is a sweet oriental, sparkling as can be. It’s sensual, coquettish and playful. A perfume for occasions where fun is the protagonist. I love it for a cool night at a concert or karaoke, with beers and friends! With a black leather jacket, wine-coloured lips and some jeans! Haha. By Paco Rabanne, my favourite, and with just a few drops you have more than enough since it tends to be intense. Among the things I like most is that the blueberries are felt throughout the perfume: more present in the opening, then they settle to give way to a sparkling cocoa note thanks to the pink pepper and patchouli. The latter is perceived constantly, along with the background vanilla that adds softness. And the perfume finishes, in fact, with vanilla and patchouli; this is, of course, after the last few hours. Otherwise, you will always perceive a woody bomb of blueberry, cocoa, patchouli and vanilla.
In Argentina we have the Ciel line from Cannon fragrances, perfumes that, despite being very cheap, fix very well on the skin. The Noir version of Ciel reminds me a lot of Black XS (if there’s any Argentine subscriber who knows both, I’d like them to confirm if they find them similar). Black XS is a perfume I used a lot as a girl. Compared to current perfumes, Black XS remains very sexy, but much more sophisticated and with a more marked character than other inescapably sweet and generic fragrances, like La Vie Est Belle.
I didn’t like it; I find it very masculine.
I didn’t like it. It’s extremely sweet, with good fixative and trail, but it’s cloying and gives me a headache. Well, super sweet for those who like sweet things; it’s good to try before buying. It’s a perfume we sometimes idealise because it’s by Paco Rabanne; I thought it was exquisite, but it’s very expensive and has nothing special for me, other than being extremely sweet. I find it very common, nothing special.
It was my first perfume for ‘going out to dance’ when I was a teenager. A friend let me smell it and I didn’t hesitate to buy it. It brings me beautiful memories. It’s sweet as can be, yet fruity. I suppose the combination of blueberry, pepper and vanilla makes it fruity, potent and very sexy. I still have it in my collection; I bought another small bottle out of affection, but I don’t think I’ll use it much anymore. I feel there are more current options on the market; it feels a little dated. That said, it has excellent longevity on the skin; you can still smell it the next day or when you go to bathe.
I bought it blind and I love it; it’s my favourite for going out at night (even though I can’t anymore). I detect notes of blueberry, wood and pink pepper; it’s very rich and sexy. I disagree with those who say it’s sweet; it’s the least noticeable note to me, and it could even pass as unisex in the opening.
I agree with Catalina Smum. For me, it’s one of those sophisticated sweets that remind us a perfume can be sweet, with cocoa and vanilla, without falling into the gourmand category. I find it seductive, not sexy; it retains that mystical touch of reserved allure. I love it! I feel the cocoa note so well-balanced, it doesn’t weigh me down, although I admit the opening is intense. Now that I think about it, yes, Ciel Noir is very similar! 🤗
It was my favourite for years, it reminds me of my adolescence when I first met it. It was rich, intense, for not going unnoticed. In Argentina this version is no longer available, which is a shame because it was a beast. There’s only the 2018 version, but in my opinion it no longer has the same charm. What a pity, I wish it would return to the market and I’d buy it without hesitation.
It’s a very sweet perfume, not cloying, very elegant. It’s strong but I like it, it’s very chocolatey.
I wore it in 2016; it was my first ‘sweet’ perfume and it was love at first sight. I still keep the bottle and remember it as slightly sweet and woody. It’s for wearing at night, dressed in black with a leather jacket, but I loved it so much I wore it in winter to go to work. The trail and longevity were moderate, but enough for an EDT. Afterwards, I wanted to buy it again but they no longer sold it; strangely, this year I’ve seen it again on websites in my country, tempting me to buy it once more.
I wore it for years until I got tired of it. I first smelled it on a sample and it caught my attention because, on my skin, it wasn’t as aggressive as in the ads. It blended with my body heat, was super personal and soft, yet long-lasting. People asked me many times what perfume I was wearing.
I went to a perfumerie in Argentina because it was on promotion and they describe it as sweet, intense and for not going unnoticed, which is exactly what I like… what a disappointment! I can barely smell it after 10 minutes and it almost disappears. Maybe it’s my pH, but it smells very little sweet, has no fixative power and zero trail. Bad buy.
Hello! I’m new to this perfume world and I love reading your reviews. I’ve always had a sweet and woody taste, and I have a special fondness for this ‘Black XS’ because it accompanied me in my youth. I used to wear it at university, looking like a soft rocker, and when my parents gifted me a perfume for my 20th birthday, I ran straight for it, drawn to the bottle. I loved the scent: woods, vanilla, a hint of pepper, violet and rose. My skin makes it sweet, so I enjoyed it immensely; it lasted 7 to 8 hours in winter and 5 to 6 in summer. I’d buy it again for winter for that warm feeling.
I love it 💖.
Black XS for Her (2007): very sexy. The blend of wet patchouli with candied violet, vanilla, chocolate and blackcurrants pushes it towards a fruity chypre; you barely notice the musky notes. Very feminine, ideal for those who want to be irresistible.
What a beast! I love wearing it. It feels super sexy and people stop on the street to smell it. It’s a pure head-turner. 10/10.
I tried this when Ralph Lauren stopped selling their ‘hot’ version. They’re similar, but this smells like burnt sugar; sometimes I get dizzy just smelling it. It’s rich, has a good trail and longevity, but for me, it’s too cloying.
I used this for most of my youth, and now I say: ‘Good heavens!’ I can’t believe I used this perfume. The scent today is incredibly irritating, too curious and gives me a headache. It’s not a bad smell, but it’s a strange one.
I don’t have the perfumery vocabulary to describe this one properly. It lasts for ages on my skin; it’s one of the few that stick around so long, and I have plenty of it. I like the sweetness, yet it’s not overly sweet. It doesn’t overwhelm; it makes me feel present, and I receive compliments from both men and women. I enjoy the mystery, especially when people don’t know what it is. I hate arriving somewhere and someone smelling the same or worse, or being told what I’m wearing. I like it when people ask and I don’t know the brand. I absolutely love it. It behaves very well on me; its trail and fixation fascinate me. On top of that, I associate fragrances with moments and memories. This Black XS reminds me of a time when I was very happy; it transports me back to those lovely, joyful moments with people from my circle. I used it a lot, day and night, winter and summer. Then I couldn’t find it anymore… I got another one that I also love today. I finally found this one, didn’t hesitate for a minute and bought it. Yes, it was just like I remembered. I still like it.
Sweet and fruity. Completely versatile. Feminine, though it becomes quite unisex as it dries down. Projection 7/10, longevity 7/10.
One of the perfumes from my youth; I liked it a lot. Strong aroma, classy and with excellent longevity. It was a toilet water, yet it lingered on the skin for ages. I haven’t bought it again, but I don’t rule it out for the future, although it might be a bit outdated now.
It was the typical teenage perfume we all had. I loved it. Sweet and strong, perfect for night-time. Now it feels cloying and even a bit intrusive.
I love it. It’s the kind of fragrance I like, even though people say it’s overused. On my skin, it smells as if fresh tamarinds, blueberries and liquor had been placed on a table. It doesn’t declare it, but it seems to have a hint of alcohol.
A beautiful, dark and sexy fragrance. Perfect for dancing, going to the bar or a romantic date. In my opinion, it suits girls around 20. I wouldn’t buy it again because I used it so much during my nightlife phase that it’s now associated with those moments, so it doesn’t fit my current stage of life.
I owned this in my clubbing days. Very much for night-time, youthful, long-lasting, intense and extreme, just as the name suggests. It denotes luxury but with excess. It’s a night of excess. The patchouli really stands out. A classic in perfumery history. A definite must-have.
This one has character and its own personality. On my skin, the rose, vanilla and wood notes come through very subtly, while the musk stays at 100%. Ideal for autumn and winter, evening wear, and without being overpowering, as it lasts for ages. Even though it has been discontinued in some places, it deserves a spot in any collection.
My sister wore this when she was young. It brings me straight back to the 2000s.
I bought it again to give it a second chance and OMG, it’s a beauty I’m enjoying hugely. It’s mainly red fruits, patchouli with the peculiar tamarind note that gives it a sour tone; it’s sweet but sour, with woody base notes that result in a super sexy and rebellious aroma. What I love about Black XS is that it’s different from current sweet perfumes with vanilla, caramel or gourmand notes. It’s for exclusive use in autumn and winter, preferably at night or if you use it during the day with fewer sprays because it’s really strong. I love it, if you have the chance, give it a try.
As for its personality, it’s quite soft. I detect the pepper, cocoa and rose, with a very subtle background of patchouli and wood. It’s not sweet or cloying, rather dry. Ideal for use in winter or autumn, day or night, for casual use, nothing very formal.
For me, this perfume performed better on spring and summer nights than in any other season.
Sweet, with little longevity, it owed me the tamarind note, which was the reason I wanted it, and I never found it.
To be honest, it disappointed me. It smells nice, but it doesn’t respond to the declared notes on my skin. I don’t feel it’s sweet either; the cocoa doesn’t show. Perhaps the vanilla appears in its evolution, but it didn’t last for me; after half an hour it had already faded. I insist, it’s a nice perfume with poor longevity and nothing sweet. A very soft floral. I’m a fan of Rabanne fragrances, but this isn’t worth it. I’ll stick with Pure XS, which actually delivers what it promises.
It’s a perfume with a red fruit opening: blueberries. Although they say there’s pepper, I don’t sense it, but these blueberries are combined with something sweet-and-sour tamarind. It’s an opening that gives life, not of spring fruits in the sun, but of slightly heavy and dark fruits. Over time, the cocoa becomes noticeable, natural and heavy, alongside an almost imperceptible rose that appears occasionally, with vanilla giving a sober sweetness, nothing gourmand. All this alongside the woods makes it strong, dark and perhaps unisex. I see it as perfect for a girl dressed in black, wine or purple, a rocker, for going to a concert. I love it, it dethrones others in my collection, but not everyone likes it. Try it, but don’t buy it blindly.
I can’t believe the reformulation. It’s much lighter and fruitier. I can detect the cocoa, yes, but it can’t be this reformulation. I’ll always want it because it was my adolescence perfume.
What have they done to this perfume!!! I had it in 2007 and used it for years because it had an enormous sillage, but now my mum bought it and it smells like anything but, just little flowers and weakness… Before it was vibrant, delicious, a real shake-up!!! Now I have no idea what it is… it seems to have lost its personality.
The smell of my adolescence. It was my first perfume: bold, powerful and youthful. A bit heavy for the heat, but it smells great and evokes the night, young years, rock and rebellion.
My absolute favourite! I adore it. Although it doesn’t last long on my skin and clothes, the scent is delicious. Perfect for going out at night when it’s cold 🖤
