Descripción
Downtown by Calvin Klein is a woody floral musk fragrance from the olfactive family, launched in 2013 for women. The nose behind this composition is Caroline Sabas. The top notes unfold with pear, plum, Italian lemon, bergamot, and Tunisian neroli; the heart reveals gardenia, pink pepper, and violet leaves; while the base notes settle on musk, Texas cedar, incense, and vetiver.

At first I thought of Euphoria, but more subtle, less consistent, and with a slightly smoky touch, perhaps due to the incense. It is sweet, powdery, and clean, nothing cloying. Despite the sweetness, it is not very youthful. It is a very fine fragrance, it lacks strength and presence to my taste; it is very discreet. A good option for subtle perfumes or for everyday wear, but I don’t think it is up to the standard of the brand and it is expensive for what it offers.
At first, I thought it was Euphoria, but it’s more subtle, with less consistency and a slightly ‘smoky’ note, probably from the incense. It’s sweet, yet powdery and clean, not cloying at all. Despite the sweet touch, it’s not too youthful. It’s a very subtle fragrance, lacking strength and presence; it’s truly too discreet for my taste. A good option for those seeking discreet perfumes or something soft for everyday wear. In any case, it doesn’t live up to the brand’s standard and is expensive for what it offers.
I tested it in store and it is a delight, although I haven’t bought it yet. I love that floral and woody blend without being at all intense.
Don’t worry Arantxa, as you rightly say, it doesn’t matter. And regarding the perfume, your review is very accurate. Best wishes 🙂
Discrepancy… I gave it to a friend for her birthday a few years ago and I remembered it as sweeter. I don’t know if my sense of smell has changed or what, but now it smells of lemon, musk, and wood. It is sweet, yes, but not in that gourmand line I like. Nevertheless, it is perfect for daily wear in the mornings in spring or summer. It’s not bad, but I expected more… Although for the price I cannot complain, 27€ for 50 ml is a good deal.
Very woody, but in my opinion it comes across as weak and timid: it was CK’s attempt to move away from its classics, but the experiment failed, resulting in a perfume that doesn’t bother but doesn’t enchant either. Hopefully they would have launched something bolder. On my skin it lasts a short time and the trail is moderate. Ideal for informal days.
Total disappointment… I gifted this to a friend for her birthday years ago and I remember it being much sweeter. I’m not sure if my sense of smell has changed or what, but now it smells of lemon, musk and wood. It is sweet, yes, but not in that gourmand line that I enjoy. Still, it’s perfect for daily wear in the mornings during spring or summer. Not bad, but I expected more… Although I can’t complain about the price, €27 for a 50 ml bottle is a good deal.
It’s a woody scent that feels weak and timid; it seems CK tried to step out of their comfort zone and the result is underwhelming. It’s not annoying, but it doesn’t enchant either, so I’m hoping for a bolder version. On my skin, it doesn’t last long and the trail is moderate; perhaps it’s suitable for informal days.
Arantxa, if it came out in 2013 and now we are in 2015, that’s two years ago. Even if it had come out yesterday, I don’t see what the launch date has to do with the review or the scent. I gave it to a friend as a gift some time ago, a year, two, I don’t know, I didn’t note the date. Why should I inform myself? I don’t understand. Anyway.
I was pleasantly surprised by Calvin Klein’s Downtown. I ordered it online without testing it first, something I rarely do, but since I was buying other perfumes and this one was on offer, I took the opportunity. I tested it alongside some Dior and Paco Rabanne scents… quite a combination, wouldn’t you say? A mistake to mix so many strong fragrances on my skin in one day… Anyway, when I first smelled it, I noticed it was youthful, fresh, and sweet, almost teenage… perhaps it was the potency of the others I was testing that meant it didn’t disappoint me, nor did it seem particularly interesting. However, the next day I only tested two, one on each arm: Givenchy’s Play (pink) and Downtown… and oh surprise!!! As the hours passed, I detected a woody, sweet scent, and without a doubt, it was the latter. Waking up the following day, it was still on my skin, very rich, musky, woody and sweet… To be honest, I didn’t expect that reaction from my skin, but I liked it a lot. It is truly a Floral Woody Musky fragrance for women, undeniably feminine. The top notes I perceive are lemon, bergamot, pear, and plum, plus an artificial mix of red berries (strawberry, cherry, raspberry); the heart notes are pink pepper, I’m not sure if it’s gardenia or roses or violets, but it’s not just gardenia, and what surprised me is its freshness, which must come from the violet leaves. Finally, as I mentioned before, what remains after 12 hours are woody notes, I suppose Texan cedar, musk, and very few sweet notes. I will use it in summer and for everyday wear. For the evening, I would recommend something more persistent like Armani’s Armani Mania, excellent for those of us who like sweet woody scents. After years of not owning any CK fragrance, I will now try this one… who can recommend another CK from the same line that is woody, sweet and musky? Best regards.

I had never been drawn to this perfume because the bottle isn’t particularly feminine or eye-catching, but I really liked the scent. It has fresh, feminine notes, perfect for working women who are elegant. I consider it suitable for any age.
I smelled it in the perfumery and it was another mistake on my part. I regret the purchase. It smelled divine on paper, but on my skin it changed completely. Goodness… I don’t sense anything sweet, fresh, citrusy, or floral; simply, I don’t like it. I’d recommend it to a woman over 35, because at 23, nothing appeals to me. Note: test it on your skin, as it smells different than on paper. An expensive mistake. It surely has its followers, but if you’re under 30 or have a young spirit, believe me, you won’t like it. It gave me nausea.
I heard it in a perfumery. Another mistake on my part. I regret buying it. They tested it on blotting paper and it smelled absolutely divine… but once I bought it and applied it to my skin, it changed completely. Oh dear… I don’t feel anything sweet, fresh, citrusy, or floral. Nothing… just I don’t like it. I truly recommend it to a woman over 35. I’m 23 and this aroma doesn’t appeal to me at all. Another piece of genuine advice: test perfumes on your skin. It smells different on paper than on skin. A mistake that cost me dearly… well, surely this perfume has its followers. But if you’re a girl under 30 or with a youthful spirit, believe me, it won’t suit you. It gave me nausea.
THIS PERFUME IS VERY DELICIOUS! ITS SCENT IS SO PLEASANT THAT IT WRAPS YOU IN A SWEET BUT YET DELICATE ATMOSPHERE. ON MY SKIN, THE BERGAMOT SCENT MIXED WITH GARDENIA DOMINATES. IT’S BETWEEN SWEET AND CITRUSY. IT’S A VERY GOOD OPTION! THE LONGEVITY IS MODERATE. BEST REGARDS!!!!
I don’t like it! It’s a somewhat dusty floral. I bought it blindly trusting that I’d like CK scents, but I was wrong. It even makes me feel nauseous; it doesn’t smell terrible, but something in it made me dizzy and gave me a headache after a few minutes. Maybe it’s my fault, but I wouldn’t buy it again, not even as a gift.
I don’t like it! It’s a medium powdery floral. I bought it blindly trusting that most CK fragrances suit me, but not! Even in my case, it gives me nausea. It doesn’t smell terrible; it’s something that, after a few minutes, makes me feel dizzy, gives me a headache, and causes nausea. I repeat, it could be me and not the perfume. Would I buy it again? Not even as a gift.
I have liked it, I have had it for some time. It is not very strong, but moderate, it smells of something aquatic with fruits and flowers. It has won me over and left a good impression with the packaging it came in.
I liked it; I had it quite some time ago. It’s not very strong, but moderate; it smells aquatic, fruity, and floral, and it won me over, leaving a good impression with the packaging.
I didn’t like it; on my skin, it felt very sweet, I don’t know why, and I found it a bit strong. Try it on your skin and judge by your own experience. It’s not bad, it’s just personal (I suppose it’s a matter of pH).
It’s sweet but not heavy; on the contrary, it’s a discreet fragrance for everyday wear or summer. It’s fruity and quite generic, like others. When I put it on, I was reminded of fruit gum, Frankenstein melon candies that leave your tongue green (XD), or Biofruit melon-watermelon. I know melon isn’t listed, but that’s what it smells like to me. It has a subtle woody or musky dry-down that gives it a body cream scent.
For me it is a very feminine scent where the gardenia shines with fresh citrus and powdery touches. It is a clean, refreshing, and floral fragrance with a woody base that gives it sophistication. I see it as semi-formal or formal in the heat, even for the office, and I believe it is appreciated more from the age of 25. On my skin it lasts more than 8 hours with a moderate trail; as it dries down it emanates cleanliness and freshness. Totally recommended, nothing like testing it on the skin.

I don’t detect any citrus; instead, the woody notes make it warm and ideal for cloudy or cold days. It’s a comforting scent, though a little flat. It has a sweet touch, nothing cloying. It reminds me slightly of Tommy Hilfiger’s EAU de Prep and Montblanc’s Lady Emblem.

Does anyone else feel this is more of a men’s fragrance?
