Descripción

Vanilla Cake by Montale is an oriental vanilla fragrance from the olfactive family, created by perfumer Olivier Polge and launched in 2018. This composition, designed for both men and women, unfolds a scent pyramid where vanilla and caramel top notes give way to a heart of bourbon vanilla and soft floral notes, settling on an intense base of Madagascar vanilla and syrup. Its sweet and gourmand character makes it a timeless proposal that evokes the texture and aroma of a freshly baked cake.

A totally gourmand proposal, very sweet; I don’t perceive the almond well but it’s almost edible, reminding me of a famous caramel with a cake touch in the opening that smells like just out of the oven. If you’re on a diet, better not, it’ll make you run to the bakery. If you feel up to it, try it in winter; with the cold you’ll have a savoury, warm hug. I think it’s feminine, it brings joy and fun, but honestly I’m not sure if I want to smell like a vanilla cake. Longevity and sillage are more than enough; it’s not a bomb and that’s appreciated.

  • This perfume is totally feminine. A wonder. A fluffy cake ready to eat; its dry down is a soft, sweet and irresistible vanilla. Another Montale perfume I want. I loved it.

  • It literally smells like a freshly baked vanilla cookie or cake. That’s the sensation. I like it. Update: I sold it. It’s a warm vanilla milk scent which, while pleasant, I don’t want to walk around smelling like warm milk and vanilla for the rest of my life. I’ll pass this time.

Extremely realistic scent, to the point where it makes me gag. Yes, tastes and colours vary, and I don’t like referring to it that way, but seriously, it makes me gag with Montale’s Vanilla Cake. I imagined I’d like it as much as Chocolate Greedy, but there’s no point. It smells of vanilla, dough, something baking, even corn. It’s stridently realistic, synthetic and evocative. It upset my stomach; the impression was more than just smelling it with my nose; I felt it with my mouth. Like tasting a low-quality cake with radioactive sucralose, or pouring vanilla essence from those cake mixes all over yourself. It even gave me a sense of dirtiness; if I smelled it on someone, I’d think they’d eaten cake and got it on themselves. Oh no, I really have to pass. I say this respectfully to those who enjoy it, but for me, it’s a resounding NO. I love vanilla, but try, try and try again.

An extremely realistic scent, to the point where it disgusts me. Yes, tastes are colours, but seriously, I’m disgusted by Montale’s Vanilla Cake. I didn’t like it as much as Chocolate Greedy. It smells of vanilla, dough, something baking, even corn. It’s stridently realistic, synthetic and evocative. It upset my stomach; I got the impression I felt it more with my mouth than my nose, like tasting a low-quality cake with radioactive sucralose, or being drenched in a baker’s vanilla essence, or even a feeling of dirt—if I sensed it on someone I’d think they’d eaten cake and got stained. Oh dear, here I go. I say this respectfully to those who enjoy it, but for me it’s a resounding NO. I love vanilla but here try, try and try again.

It just arrived and its opening isn’t friendly; it’s strong and truly sweet. After a few minutes it smells like cocoa powder and vanilla cookies, then it captivates me; it leaves a sweet pastry trail and is addictive. Its sillage isn’t wide but you feel it all the time. For me it’s long-lasting and very real gourmand. I love it. Longevity on my skin is 6 hours then it fades.

  • Ugh, what a blast. One thing works well: it smells like whipped cream from the supermarket. But I wouldn’t want to wear it. It’s very synthetic, very gourmand, just like the Tetra Pak milk drinks. It lacks that ‘perfumey’ touch that the gourmands I actually like have. The worst part is I already own one that smells identical and costs half the price: Strawberry Milk by Sugar Milk Co. It smells exactly like Vanilla Cake, which costs double. Same synthetic sweetness of a factory-made cake, with no real vanilla or caramel. Good thing I sampled it before buying. I recommend something cheaper or better, another vanilla perfume, not this one.

  • Ugh, what a blast with this perfume. One thing in its favour: it truly smells like the whipped cream from the supermarket. But beyond that, it’s not something I’d want to wear. It’s too synthetic, too gourmand, landing right in the centre of the aroma of flavoured milk in tetrapacks. It lacks that ‘perfumey’ touch that the gourmands I enjoy actually have. The worst part is that I already own one that smells identical and costs much less: Strawberry Milk by Sugar Milk Co., an American indie that makes these scent oils. The oil costs $50 and smells identical to Vanilla Cake, which costs double. It has the same synthetic sweetness of a factory-made cake, with nothing resembling real vanilla bean, caramel or almond. I’m glad I sampled it before buying blind, as the notes caught my eye. I’d recommend something cheaper like Strawberry Milk, or better yet, decant another vanilla perfume, any vanilla, but definitely not this one.

  • Smells like a vanilla Twinkie Wonder or a Mexican Marinela submarine cake—the sensation of taking a bite. If you like sweets, this is excellent for gourmand lovers. People around you might love or hate it. Over time it becomes cloying like a dessert, but for a short while or as a treat, it’s a good option. I think it’s brilliant as an artistic composition for its realism.

  • Smells like Twinkie Wonder or Mexico’s Eres by Vanillinela; the exact sensation of taking a bite. If you enjoy sweetness, it’s an excellent gourmand choice, though it may delight or repel those around you. Over time, it becomes cloying, but in a dessert sort of way; as a fleeting scent or a gift, it works well. Artistically, it’s incredible for how realistic it is.

  • It’s pure gourmand: real dessert vanilla and vanilla cookie scent; you buy it for that and the fragrance delivers 100%.

I agree with the comment below: vanilla Nesquik. Fortunately, I only bought a decant, because paying nearly the $80 it costs in my country is too much. The bad thing is that I don’t even know what occasion to use it for because I wouldn’t want to be smelling like this; it’s rare for me not to like a perfume.

  • FloorPerfumeadicta

I feel like I’m eating a freshly baked vanilla sponge cake with lots of cream, cocoa, caramel, and vanilla; it gives me that sensation every time I wear it. It’s very sweet and potent on application, but as it evolves, I sense a Nesquik aroma. It’s rich but didn’t win me over enough to buy it outright. I adore cloying gourmand scents, but I feel Vanilla Cake left me wanting in terms of longevity and scent; it lasts 6 hours, its sillage isn’t very wide, it’s more for personal enjoyment. It’s very synthetic and unfortunately doesn’t suit me; I recommend it for gourmand lovers, ideal for autumn and winter. For now, it doesn’t remind me of another perfume; it’s unique, so if you can, test it well on skin before buying. It’s not a scent for everyone. Scent 8/10, Longevity 6/10, Sillage 7/10, Value for Money 10/10, Packaging 8/10. Would I buy it? NO.

This fragrance filled me with so much hope due to the notes and the milky accord, but oh, what a disappointment. It smells horrible. It reminded me of the smell of antibiotic syrup… super strong.

NEVER buy this perfume blind. Fortunately, I was able to try a decant first. Although I’m sure I’ve smelled it in a Montale store, in the little bell format, when it was more or less pleasant, the decant experience was very different. On application, it made me cough, but as it dried down on both paper and skin, it gave me nausea. It smells like vanilla, but with the huge detail of something terribly synthetic and overwhelming as it dries. It could be an apple chemical, either from a cleaning product or those flavourings for water. I love vanilla, both gourmand and non-gourmand, however, I don’t want to smell this again and I don’t know if I want to explore more of the brand, as what I’ve tried so far hasn’t pleased me, with the exception of Chocolate Greedy, although after such an experience with Vanilla Cake, I doubt my sense of smell was in good condition when I liked that other perfume. I hope I never encounter someone smelling like this in public places. Not even when testing perfumes with distinguishable animal notes did I feel such discomfort. The only positive point (or very negative for me) is its longevity and that it takes several attempts of soap and water to remove it from the skin.

  • Sweet pumpkin spice, it causes cavities at first sniff. If you don’t like this vibe, don’t even try it, but perhaps you might like Sweet Vanilla more, which has a fruity touch.

  • I love it; it’s one of my favourite perfumes. It’s the scent that smells most like a little dessert. Since I got it, I’ve adored it and it could easily be my signature, but because it was so hard for me to find, I decided to keep it stored away, especially as I already have 40 perfumes in total. I ended up gifting it to my sister, who absolutely loved it. It smells like a freshly made vanilla dessert, a vanilla pancake soaked in milk. When I run out of my perfumes, I hope to buy it again.

Once I’ve used up my current collection, I hope to buy it again.

  • Vanilla, meringue, caramel, and almond. At first, it smells a bit dry, I suppose due to the almonds, but then it turns into a vanilla cake mix. It’s lovely but definitely not worth it, though it is also an excellent fragrance for layering.

  • Elenperfume

Vanilla, meringue, caramel and almond. At first, it smells a bit dry, probably due to the almond notes, but then it transforms into vanilla cake batter. It’s lovely, but definitely not worth it on its own, though it’s excellent for blending with other scents.

  • Vanilla, caramel, meringue… what could possibly go wrong? Everything, this is the most SYNTHETIC perfume I’ve ever used. If you want to smell like cheap vanilla candle wax, buy this. $125 thrown in the bin.

  • Maratenea

Vanilla, caramel, meringue, and milk: perfect notes for gourmand lovers, but something went wrong. It all smells synthetic, not like perfume. I’d categorise it as an air freshener; it was a total disappointment. I own Kayali’s Vanilla 28, Mancera’s Vanilla Roses, Narcótica’s Dulce Diablo, Devotion, and Vanilla Candy Rock, and this one didn’t suit me at all. I don’t know how they failed here; it seems like a cheaply formulated perfume that doesn’t smell like its declared notes. I’ll stop buying blind based on reviews; I’ve thrown money out of the window. If anyone is thinking of buying it, don’t do it blindly; test it first. I’ll let it macerate for a few months to see if it changes, otherwise, I’ll use it as a car air freshener.

Quick description: at first, I smelled Twinkie Wonder, but once worn, it becomes too strange and plastic-dry. Then it smells like Tres Leches cake with lots of vanilla and almond. The funny thing is that upon drying down, it resembles ONLY ONE SLICE OF MANGO CAKE by Gula Perfumes, but softer. I find this amusing because I know Gula doesn’t create inspiration scents if you want to smell like cake, so just buy that one from Gula. This Montale isn’t well-executed at the start and smells very odd. It’s a subtle scent; I endured that strange initial smell, but once dried down, it’s nicer, sitting somewhere between Lattafa’s Brioche Vanilla and that slice from Gula.

Quick description: at first it smells like Wonder Twinky, but as it dries down it becomes weird and plastic. After two hours, it smells like Tres Leches cake with lots of vanilla and almond. The funny thing is, in dry form it resembles ‘Just a Slice of Mango Cake’ by Gula Perfumes, but softer. I say funny because I know Gula doesn’t make inspired scents if you want to smell like cake, so just buy that one instead. This Montale feels poorly executed at the start and smells very strange. It’s a delicate fragrance, so I endured that odd scent. Once dry, it’s much nicer, sitting somewhere between Latafa’s Brioche Vanilla and that slice of Gula’s cake.
