“Perfumery is poetry without words” Twenty years ago, I began my career by assisting perfumers, weighing and measuring formulas for them. What an unexpected discovery; it was love at first sight... or first scent, I should say! I had never imagined becoming a perfumer. Today, as a Senior Perfumer based in Singapore, I have the privilege of discovering something new every day, experimenting with less well-known ingredients, tackling different challenges and learning from my colleagues. In perfumery, you need the desire to learn constantly and to keep an open mind towards new points of view and ideas. I’m convinced that aromas and odours are a form of communication, and that perfumery is a little like poetry, which can move you because it touches you deeply. Scents have the ability to uncover similar feelings and a sense of wellbeing. As perfumers, through our creations, we can also generate such emotions. This is what makes our work so fascinating and challenging, but also makes our profession so beautiful. When I develop a fragrance, my goal is for my perfume to convey emotional messages of beauty and harmony. Whatever the format or product category, I will apply a certain aesthetic to create a scent that elevates its brand and also provides a moment of pleasure for the consumer. Perfumery is a language full of complexity, but I enjoy learning more of it every day and being able to convey my message more effectively with each new project I work on.
