Joseph Erwin
Joseph Erwin was raised on a farm of Quarter Horses and cattle in Arkansas, where he developed a strong connection with nature. He spent his early years riding horses, climbing trees and developing a deep appreciation for the outdoors, while also developing a passion for reading. After enlisting in the US Army, Joseph trained in laboratory sciences, which gave him a solid foundation in precision, measurement and chemistry. Following his military service, Joseph’s interest in global cooking led him to explore how the spices and aromas of the whole world could be blended together. This sparked curiosity about fragrances, and he began experimenting with natural botanicals, creating his own extracts and studying the use of aromatics in different cultures. After living abroad and gaining a variety of experiences with fragrances and ingredients, Joseph returned to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he founded Onycha Fragrance Company. Today, he makes every scent by hand in small batches, combining his scientific training with his passion for rare botanicals and the creation of fragrances.
