Omar AlQattan is a Kuwaiti perfumer of British and Arab origin who entered the world of fragrances without family ties to the industry at a time when the GCC region offered little access to education or opportunities in perfumery. He began his journey at the age of ten through self-study, pursuing his passion independently while later studying marketing at university. In 2016, he trained in the United Kingdom under the guidance of one of the perfumers of Queen Elizabeth II, an experience that contributed to his growth, although his path remained largely self-taught. In 2018, at just 17 years old, he suffered a fractured nose that left him with only half of his sense of smell, a challenge that strengthened his determination to continue. In 2020–2021, Omar became the youngest Arab perfumer and the first to win the International Perfume Foundation’s plant-based natural perfume award with his creation Cave, marking a historic milestone for the GCC. Today, he works as an independent perfumer with Identiscent and is a cofounder of The Perfumer’s Corner in Kuwait, a hub that integrates education, innovation and creation. His journey reflects both resilience and a pioneering spirit, representing one of the first citizens of the GCC to achieve global recognition in perfumery as an Arab perfumer, despite the region’s limited access to this field.
