Philip Kraft

Philip Kraft, born in Germany in 1969, studied Chemistry at Kiel University and obtained his diploma and doctorate with Werner Tochtermann on macrocíclic odorants in collaboration with H&R. In 1996, he joined the fragrance research team at Givaudan, and was promoted to the ranks of head of chemistry (2001), group leader (2008) and researcher (2015), with a special focus on rational design and the synthesis of new odorants, molecular modelling and structure–odor relationships. To keep Fragrance Chemistry visible to the scientific community, he co-organises the GDCh conferences ‘flavours & fragrances’ from 2004, and the next one will take place in Göttingen in 2025. Since 2008, he has given lectures on Fragrance Chemistry at the Universities of Bern and Zurich, as well as at ETH Zürich, and since 2021 at the University of Göttingen/Wöhler Research Institute for Sustainable Chemistry. Impressed by his leadership role in sustainability, he joined Symrise, Holzminden, in 2021 as chief chemist. He is the author of 101 publications, 43 patents and an inventor of 8 commercial perfumery materials.
