Fragrance I bought in February and blind due to its price and impossibility of trying it beforehand. I tested it upon receiving it and for a few more days, it went straight to the wardrobe despite seeming pleasant. A few weeks ago I retrieved it and voilá! Magic, or is it me, or is it the weather, or the fragrance has had some evolution in these two months. Sparkling at the start and a charming nature scent that lingers. I like it 100 times more than when I received it in mid-February. It lasts about 6 hours and from time to time you catch whiffs of that forest aroma. I recommend that if you bought it and it didn’t say anything to you, give it a chance. 👍🏼

  • As I always say, we must understand fragrances and not ask for apples when we want pears, and above all not let ourselves be carried away by social media hype. When I see such polarised reviews, that’s when I make the most effort to try it before buying, and that’s how it was. I will tell you my experience as centred as possible, moving away from the idolatry and hate many attribute to it… Said that: Very good scent (DO NOT BUY BLIND). Longevity on skin: approx 7h. Projection: 3h. Trail: moderate. Versatility: Preferably mild to moderate heat climates. Uses: From casual to semi-formal. Although its scent is pleasant and wearable, I think the vetiver and cypress note won’t please everyone, so I recommend trying it first. I don’t want to say it’s challenging, simply they are scents that some don’t like. I’m not an expert in notes, but for me it’s citrus, woods, and cypress (pine). I don’t feel the aquatic part nor that it’s a dense and dark perfume as they say. In the time I’ve been wearing it, my surroundings (partner, family, friends) have liked it quite a bit with some compliments from strangers. It’s not a scent that breaks necks or steals breath, it’s not sexy, but it is pleasant and fulfilling. I get to the relevant point: it is a serious fragrance. Some say elegant and formal, but I see it from the vibe and attitude: ENS is totally serious and sober, ideal for the office, bank transactions or departments, lunch or work dinner, also for a casual date with a partner (not for a first date). Although the name says Sport, I don’t see it for the gym. I live in climates of 20 to 30 degrees and it hasn’t felt heavy or oppressive to me. Its longevity, which I believe is the most criticised, in my case gives me about 7 hours with 5 sprays, 3 hours projection and a soft to moderate trail. In summary, it is a fragrance slightly above average, a serious scent for nothing party where its best environment is the office and most importantly its price, which I consider good at around 40$, I think for that price you get quite a lot. For me, it is highly recommended.

  • It smells fresh but to me it smells of old man. I easily see a 40-year-old gentleman with this fragrance. It’s boring. What do I say, boring: EXTREMELY BORING. Longevity: A SINGLE SIGH!!!!!! It stands out for its absence. What do I tell you? It lasts at most 1 hour, if not less. It smells of pure vetiver, lavender, and cashmere wood, with vetiver standing out the most. I don’t smell anything else. It smells like car air freshener. FATAL. TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT. All because I listened to the comments here and YouTubers. If you want to stand out, then don’t buy it. Compliments: 0. Nothing stands out. BUY BLIND: NO. SCENT: 2. TRAIL: 0. PROJECTION: 0. VERSATILITY: 3. Bought at Fragrancenet.

  • Sport has nothing to do with it. It’s a version of Terre d’Hermès EdT: more citrusy, fresh, aquatic, summery, tasty, and above all more versatile than the Lalique Encre Noire original, which was and is a great fragrance with a cypress and earthy vetiver aroma. Smell of cemetery cypress? Well, yes, and to be proud of it. If your thing is habanera, sweet notes to blast in the disco, or wild ambroxan, follow your path, friend, and forget this. The Encre Noire original (I have the Lalique à l’Extreme and I don’t like it, I don’t know what it is but it attracts me nothing) is a cult masterpiece for this writer. If Creed, Amouage, Xerjoff, or Initio had released it at 250 quid for 50ml, no one would be surprised and everyone would desire and hype it like Baccarat Rouge 540. Nathalie Lorson was crowned with this trilogy and for good reason. A very masculine scent for men over 30. For 18-year-olds raised on trap, beanies, and rollerblades smelling of this, it seems offensive. It has a quite reasonable and cheap price, from 20 to 30 euros for 100ml if you search well. Longevity, trail, and performance are quite good. It lasts 7-8 hours and projects half a metre for 1 hour. I don’t ask for more. If you know the trilogy, like herbal and woody perfumes, or are looking for an economic alternative to Terre d’Hermès without falling into clones or cheap stuff, you will like it. Wonderful.

  • Of the EN range, this is the most accessible, with a very pleasant initial scent, citrusy and green. Afterwards, it leaves a quite fresh grassy smell. I bought it to complete the collection but it’s the one I use most (although I like the original more). Although it’s quite pleasant, I would recommend trying it first, which should always be done.

I didn’t smell it at first and bought it blind. It smells of root with citrus notes, featuring a very predominant vetiver and cypress note that I don’t like. Do not buy it if you cannot smell it beforehand. It is a good perfume, but it’s not for me. I imagine a 30-year-old man using it in the middle of the forest.

  • Encre Noire Sport: If there is one line worth trying in all its flankers, it’s this one, except for the Indigo which I haven’t met yet. Although they resemble each other, each has its own identity. It’s like saying they were born in the same house but raised in different rooms. It is the fragrance of a forest habitat where trees dominate, whereas in contrast, the herbs, shrubs, and river water flow in perfect harmony. From nature and its outer beauty, it is a scent that seems to come from the heights down to the bottom of the valleys. It is the aroma of what has life, denoting freshness and purity, where the urban still hasn’t corrupted it. The term ‘Sport’ seems more than correct, being this the most wearable for daily life of all its sisters. Scent: 10. Projection: Good. Longevity: 8 hours. Recommended.

  • Sport version. In my opinion, a more finished and balanced scent than the regular Encre Noire. Green all over but not so aggressive or synthetic. Clean. Good longevity and trail. Generally pleasing and can be bought blind without issues. Quality/price ratio: unbeatable.

  • The opening is fantastic, especially considering the price. Incredible quality at a magnificent cost. It smells green and very woody, giving the sensation of being in the forest. Clean and fresh. It looks elegant; I wear it at the office occasionally and it works brilliantly. The projection is good and it lasts over 10 hours. I haven’t tried the others in the line, but I absolutely love this one. I admit it could be a love-it-or-hate-it scent, but given the price, if you don’t like it, it’s no big deal. I bought it blind with zero regrets and recommend it 100%.

  • It retains the smoky touch of the original while adding a potent citrus note, especially at the start. Over time, it balances out to become a scent I enjoy, offering more versatility than its older sibling. I see it as suitable for mild weather, with clouds but nothing too hot. If you want to try something different, of high quality and at a ridiculous price, it’s an excellent option. Highly recommended!

Encre Noire Sport, a composition that has ‘sport’ only in the name and which, in my opinion, is the most rounded of the three. A perfume that takes the best of the Extreme version, but without taking it to that darkness which characterises the Extreme version; you feel that mystery and maturity of the vetiver and cypress, but here you won’t find the incense and other balsamic components that make the Extreme what it is, ‘Extreme’. In the opening, you’ll find a quite pleasant citrus part; these citrus notes are wrapped in an earthy aura that eventually transforms into what we know. If Encre Noire Extreme is the dry, dark forest full of mystery, this Sport version is the same forest but during the day, without the mist and with sunlight entering between the trees, accompanied by a humid aura of rain. It emanates that sense of maturity, however, it can be worn perfectly by the young; it’s versatile to a certain extent and highlights your masculinity. It’s a composition I highly recommend to enter more purposeful perfumery without the need to spend much. Also, the bottle is very aesthetically pleasing and stands out in your collection. In terms of longevity, it’s very good, lasting 7 hours on skin with decent projection without reaching beast status, which fits the character of the composition. In conclusion, it’s one of those perfumes you must have or at least try; they are among those that make an enormous contribution to your collection and add what five ‘normal’ perfumes would. • My favourite fragrance in terms of aroma. More discreet performance but with spectacular quality. I bathe in it during spring and summer. It makes me feel in an imaginary forest of conifers and sunlit lemon trees, freshly misted by a gentle rain and swayed by the cool breeze that settles upon touching the ground. It’s sublime. I’ve found it for 17€ on some websites… when it happens, I buy several bottles. It’s a treasure and makes me not care about its discretion. It fulfils the maxim ‘little pleases and much tires’. 9/10

  • This fragrance is a success and perfectly complements the Encre Noire trio. Can you have all three? Absolutely: ENS for daytime daily wear, EN for nighttime daily wear, and ENX for going out. Like God. If it’s true that it can have brush-stroke-like sillage as mentioned below, those who have painted will know quickly. • I feel like the dissonant note, but this Lalique variant has disappointed me. I had Encre Noire A L’Extreme and was delighted. I got this one based on the good reviews like all the ones below, and the only thing I notice is a decaffeinated version of the older sister. Very little longevity and projection and a very similar scent (which is fine) but weaker. A bit more citrusy and without that imposing vetiver. I suppose they wanted a less serious and fresher version for daily use. As they say, the idea was good, but the execution… they should have been a bit more creative, and above all given it more longevity. As the previous review says, ‘the sporty brother of Dracula’, which I’d rather call ‘the little brother of Dracula’. It’ll have to grow a bit to scare someone.

  • Polydistortion

No matter how much I adore ‘Encre Noire’ and ‘Encre Noire A L’Extreme’, I can hardly find a way to use them in Summer; for that, the best remedy is ‘Encre Noir Sport’, Delicious.

  • Any fragrance with Vetiver makes a person seem intriguing, intelligent, and determined. Like many others, it’s ideal for someone over 30. Suitable for any day, preferably cold and rainy days. It feels entirely green, forest-like, cold, and alive. Just as if you were wearing a fresh natural garland around your neck.

  • I really liked its fresh herbal aroma, only that this pleasant scent lasts a short time and after 20 minutes only the musk scent remains, which lasts more than 3 to 4 hours, I suppose that’s the base note as Polo Blue smells the same and it’s the note they share. I’ve kept using it and now I perceive the cypress at the end as expected, very soft and pleasant, and just before disappearing you can smell the leather. It’s a proper men’s perfume with a checkered shirt 😎👍🏻

  • nestordff

Bought blind due to the hype… versatile scent, easy to wear, nothing strange or headache-inducing… 100% versatile including summer… you can smell woods, cypress and vetiver very softly, but mostly a lemon citrus note and little else… it lacks strength and projection, it’s nothing more than a pleasant cologne, a good herbal scent… like a forest… fresh…. for the price, a good purchase without being as incredible as they say… more than a commercial and versatile scent… neither a dark nor a cemetery scent… The longevity is like a Zara’s… pitiful, you can spray 30 times and the scent is gone… although it has an accessible price, the performance is non-existent… not worth the purchase… I’ll wait a few months and try again… but it’s by far the least durable in my collection… and I have 30 perfumes of all price ranges.

  • tandilensis

I live in Buenos Aires and rushed out to buy this perfume after reading comments about its delicious aroma. Very accessible price. Once applied, I can smell it for a maximum of 20 minutes. After that, even touching the area where I applied it, I feel absolutely nothing. A scam, either by the perfumeria that sold me anything at all, or by Lalique for selling this. There’s nothing to say about this fragrance that disappears almost as soon as it’s applied.

  • It’s the Encre Noire that bothers me the least. I’d far rather use the original for its essence, and A L’Extreme is my favourite of the family. This Sport shares the grapefruit at the start (which smells like shellac to me) with the previous one, but with an aquatic twist that, in my opinion, ‘waters down’ the fragrance. Soon enough, the vetiver emerges and lingers until the scent dies out far too early. Its performance is very poor, both in projection and longevity. So I use it occasionally when staying in, until the bottle runs dry, and I don’t think I’ll buy it again. I’ve gifted the other two Encre Noires to my children after using several bottles, as good, affordable fragrance options in case they get into it. Personally, I prefer other things.

  • At first, it cost me to condition my nose, basically because the strength of the grapefruit and the weakness of the vetiver take away what I like most: that sense of the ultratumba of the original. Although it’s the most summery of the trilogy, it doesn’t suit me in the heat; I feel more comfortable using it on fresh and cold days, which doesn’t make sense because for that I have the original. The opening is so potent it seems like it’s going to be annoying, but oh surprise! it recedes very soon and leaves a faint skin scent that lasts a maximum of 4-5 hours.

  • What incredible how every review must be read with a fine-toothed comb and tested to draw conclusions. Although I bought it blind and it didn’t fascinate me at first, I used it again a few years later and now I say it’s very pleasant. I received compliments and enjoy it as a personal scent. Reading reviews that speak of poor performance, I absolutely disagree. After 5 hours and a dip in the pool, I’m still feeling my own bursts.

  • An adaptation of Encre Noir EDT towards a lighter, fresher, and brighter aspect. However, neither the grapefruit opening nor the nutmeg make it a sport; they only appear briefly to give way to the house’s vetiver. Very low performance; it stands out for nothing. An forgettable option of the line. I don’t recommend it unless you like to splash out money.

  • Dassbartender

Definitely, every head is a world; you have to try it and not let others guide you. Although I bought it blind and it seemed a bit strange at first, with daily use I ended up liking it very much. Regarding performance, it doesn’t fall short: it gives me its 8 hours of longevity with good projection, no problems.

  • Villefragance

Those who are hesitating to buy it, let’s agree on something: we read reviews calling it terrible and disappointing, and others calling it excellent. There is no middle ground!

  • Review of Lalique Encre Noire Sport: It gives me the sensation of walking through a damp forest and stumbling upon a campfire that’s been doused with water, watching the ashes scatter. The vetiver and citrus, paired with cypress and lavender, achieve that blend. Its projection is excellent; it makes you noticeable, though its longevity is moderate to low. It’s a masculine, sober fragrance, ideal for those over 35. It suits both formal and informal occasions, but I recommend it for formal daytime wear. Not for night, given the moderate longevity. Of the trilogy, it’s my favourite for its versatility, although the criticism is the short duration. It works brilliantly on rainy days, in autumn and spring. Here in Buenos Aires, when storms are looming, it’s where you get the most out of it. I didn’t receive any compliments. In summary: a formal, sober, masculine fragrance with moderate longevity for autumn and spring, best for personal enjoyment.

  • Aldo-12345

Imagine this: you step out of the shower with damp skin and apply Encre Noire Sport. Immediately, a wave of freshness envelops you, like walking through a forest after the rain with dew on the leaves. The grapefruit and bergamot add a citrus touch, a marine breeze among the trees. Over time, the vetiver, the key note of the line, appears soft and earthy. It’s not the dark vetiver of the original, but a light, fresh one, like damp earth underfoot. The perfume accompanies you for about 6 to 7 hours, creating a pleasant bubble (it’s not projecty). It doesn’t shout; it whispers elegance and freshness. It’s perfect for warm spring and summer days, to feel fresh and energetic, whether at work or on an afternoon stroll. I love it.

  • oscardanielcr

I bought it because of Andrés’ review… at first I didn’t like it, but I ended up using it. It’s mainly woody, but the citrus notes make it excellent for the gym. It’s not cloying; it’s soft and lasts 4-5 hours on my skin; trail is moderate to low. I wouldn’t recommend it, but I wouldn’t say don’t buy it, because some people liked it and asked me what perfume it was. Rating: Longevity 6/10, Trail 6/10, Scent 8/10.

  • I don’t understand the hype surrounding this fragrance. It smells like a librarian to me. It’s not unpleasant, but it’s pure vetiver—arid and dry like paper. It also evokes the scent of sealing wax for letters. Perhaps I don’t like it because it feels far removed from my personality. I don’t see it as versatile; it transports me too much to a library. It could be used in an office, but the performance is quite poor. What’s interesting is how evocative it feels; yes, it transports me. To Caesar what belongs to Caesar.

  • Fresh, aquatic, and citrusy vetiver that smells of wet earth and wood. It’s good quality, but simply not my style.

  • If you like vetiver, you’ll probably like the Sport version of Encre Noir. When I tried the Encre Noire (straight from the bottle) it seemed very artificial, with a vetiver identical to that of an inexpensive shampoo I sometimes buy. I tried it for a while and gave up, gave it to a friend who liked it. Then I ordered a decant of the Sport and the truth is I didn’t like it at all; it smelled chemical and I couldn’t relate it to being perfumed. Years later I tried it again at a friend’s house in cold, autumnal weather. I liked it enough to keep it in mind. I sprayed many times on skin and clothes, it lasts and projects well. The scent at a distance is a pleasant fresh and woody vetiver, very masculine. However, if I press my nose to the skin I smell some notes that slightly bother me. But it’s just a detail; it’s a perfume that dresses well and leaves a good impression at a distance.

  • Jaime Ramírez

Homme 033 Legend by L’BEL is very similar, opening with citrus and powerful cypress, then earthy, wet and woody vetiver. It’s delicious, very similar to this Encre Noire Sport at a low price of €15. Ideal for spring and summer. It smells like an expensive perfume.

  • Encre Noire Sport is Lalique’s attempt to bring the wet, dark forest of the original to a lighter and fresher terrain. Its opening combines citrus and an aquatic vetiver, theoretically more versatile for warm climates. In my experience, it recedes very quickly: in 20-30 minutes it goes from a bright opening to a faint vetiver, almost imperceptible if you don’t bring your nose close. In humid and warm weather, like in my city, it seems to vanish more. The curious thing is that many report decent longevity and a persistent dry down. This baffles me: for some it’s clean and long-lasting, for me it’s an ephemeral trail. Probably it’s down to the skin or the concentration, more transparent than the classic. In short, it divides opinions: for some, a fresh versatile vetiver; for others, an experience too fleeting.

  • Mine was a blind buy; I don’t recommend doing that. It’s not an easy scent nor for any personality, including mine. I recognise its structure. If you want to be in a cloudy mountain with rivers and trees with dew, this is ideal. It smells of that wet vetiver, almost cardboard-like, freshly soaked by rain. Cypress is very present. The aquatic notes give it condensation so it’s not so dry. I use it for the gym; it doesn’t bother but doesn’t shine either. Poor performance, 4 hours of longevity and 1:30 of projection.

  • A perfume that makes the approach to its older brother (the first Encre Noir) a little more friendly. Worth having both.

  • Juan Pablo Melgoza Maldon

Ladies and gentlemen, if you’re looking for an unconventional aquatic fragrance, here it is. I’d been searching for a good price for ages and it finally came true. This line moves away from the mainstream to explore niche, with excellent value for money and an aroma that no one else will wear. It opens with sparkling citrus, cypress and lavender, super interesting. Then comes the nutmeg, a unique bitter touch. After that, the vetiver, more earthy than woody, along with fresh notes transports you to a conifer forest with wet earth. I was fascinated. At the office, several colleagues approved. My girlfriend liked it a lot, it made her top list. Very good quality for the price, original. If you’ve had enough of sweet blue perfumes, this gives you a new perspective. Fresh, lasts about 6 hours without any problem.

  • May 2024 batch, second bottle. This one has less juicy grapefruit in the opening and leans closer to the original. It remains more versatile and ‘easy’, but it has lost some character compared to the first. Still, it’s a very good perfume, different and very economical.

  • I started with this Sport flanker, although the name is the only thing that’s sport. An intense, realistic grapefruit envelops a vetiver moistened with body. Beneath, woods. After half an hour, an aquatic sensation (not marine) that isn’t the beach, but a walk along cypress paths under a spring rain. And so until the end. Elegant, for over 30 years, even unisex. It could be a signature scent, versatile for all seasons except summer heat. Moderate trail, lasts about 7 hours on skin. I picked it up in 2021 for €22 on Notino, when bargains were plentiful.

  • It’s my least favourite fragrance from the Encre Noire line, the flakiest flanker. While they all share that DNA and this should be the most wearable, it’s the one I use least. Its originality and particular aroma are less present here; it feels flatter. That said, the cypress still sounds excellent, though in this sport version it smells a bit more metallic and less genuine.

  • Gerabloodaromic

Starts with grapefruit and bergamot, but quickly yields to the true king: Bourbon vetiver and cypress. Clean yet unsettling. It’s a unique scent you won’t smell on the tube or in the street, for those who dare to be different. I’ll always keep it in my collection.
