Choosing a summer scent is always a challenge: the heat and humidity are enemies, and whether your collection is large or small, that hurdle remains. This year, my top pick is XX Artisan by John Varvatos, an American designer of Greek heritage. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to track down XXX Verdigris by Ermenegildo Zegna, which have vanished from my usual radar. This fragrance is, above all, fresh and metallic, qualities that work in your favour during the summer heat. It isn’t sweet; it opens with a citrusy burst of bitter orange. In the heart notes, it sails smoothly with a hint of spice that soon fades, leaving a rich base of green vetiver tones that blend perfectly with the orange. It’s nothing maritime, and I find no similarities to other perfumes, unlike what some reviews suggest. I consider John Varvatos a line of quality and good taste; they often don’t last long but have excellent sillage, and in this XX line, they’ve extended the longevity slightly, which I appreciate. In summer, it depends on your budget: neither the very cheap ones as they don’t perform, nor the very expensive ones, as less than three months’ use rarely justifies the cost unless you travel constantly. I think ARTISAN XX by VARVATOS is a very honest and well-composed perfume that can see you through a summer better than many others. Quality. PS: The combination of green vetiver with citrus is brilliant, giving it great character. Despite being fresh and metallic, it’s a niche scent at a good price, and for me, a great perfume.

I agree with p_arq: it’s metallic with good longevity and skin projection. Sometimes it seems to disappear, but it doesn’t… It’s not particularly pleasant for a female nose.

Metallic scent, nothing common. I liked it, but my wife didn’t. It reminds me of Moschino Toy Boy, but softer.
