From Benneviento, Before the First Step is a new Oriental Vanilla fragrance for women and men, launched in 2025. It joins the house with an unapologetically sweet, pudding-like character.
Rather than freshness, it offers comfort: honeyed cherry to begin with, a melting caramel-almond centre, then amber, woods and vanilla.
At the opening there are cherry, cognac, honey, honeycomb and sponge cake. The effect is fruity with plenty of honey, touched by cognac and a light, bakery warmth.
The heart then centres on caramel, tonka bean, almond and nutmeg. Caramel brings softness, almond a creamy nuttiness, and nutmeg a restrained, cosy spiciness.
The dry-down features amber, sandalwood, oak, vanilla, cinnamon, praline and dark chocolate. Praline and vanilla provide the sweet roundness, while sandalwood and oak lend a calm woody frame.
