If you’re hunting for a retro masculine scent that defines the man between 40 and 59 this is it: classic yet contemporary very much of the eighties (think Azzaro Escada or Puig) without copying them. It showcases maturity at its finest—neither for lads nor for the elderly; it’s what Al Pacino’s ‘Lefty’ would wear in ‘Donnie Brasco’. An excellent fragrance with a clear purpose warmly received by mature women (35+). It demands presence and personality. Notes of leather incense nutmeg beautiful cypress and a touch of musk create a refined virile combination. Made in Italy by an American designer it’s versatile for any season though I prefer it for evening wear. Hard to find but not discontinued. Scent: 9.0. Projection: max 2 hours. Longevity: 7-8 hours. Recommended.

Mr. Blass by Bill Blass is for men seeking a retro or vintage aroma the type of fragrance that defines the man between 40 and 59: classic yet current. It evokes that wave of eighties woody aromatics like Azzaro Pour Homme Escada Pour Homme or Quorum by Antonio Puig; they are not identical but they follow that line. It shows a man’s maturity at its best: not for lads nor for the elderly it’s what ‘Lefty’ (Al Pacino) would wear in ‘Donnie Brasco’. I found it excellent with a well-defined destination that makes the scent warmly received by mature women (35 and above). It’s that classic aroma that requires a certain maturity presence and personality to wear. It’s magnificent! The notes of leather incense nut and a beautiful cypress wood with a hint of detected musk create a fine and harmonious combination in the purest virile style of a man wishing to project maturity. Made in Italy although Bill Blass was American and one of the best fashion designers. It’s very versatile for any time and season though I prefer it for the evening. I think it would be a magnificent option. It’s hard to find but not discontinued. Scent: 9.0. Projection: max 2 hours. Longevity: between 7 and 8 hours. Recommended.

This perfume explodes with bergamot and nutmeg flooding the room instantly although the projection drops quickly to moderate within the next hour. I sense the leather as wet but I love it that way blending perfectly with the incense. The cypress gets a bit lost amidst the bergamot and the finish features long-lasting vanilla amber and an attractive musk. It reminds me of the old-school Avon classics but with my favourite note: the nutmeg. It just needs a bit more projection; I wouldn’t mind if someone else smelled it while being transported.

I searched for a perfume shipping website and to avoid too much risk tried an economical one on offer. After reading good reviews on Fragrantica I decided to take the plunge and stumbled upon a gem: the best quality-price ratio I’ve ever seen. It’s a special piece an aromatic-spicy scent with no declared (or perceived) florals. It starts strong with bergamot and nutmeg; upon application the cypress is intense reminding me of Encre Noir (they share 3 out of 4 notes). By the seventh hour I clearly detect the incense leather and soft vetiver. The base is amber and musk without sweetness though I didn’t sense vanilla. The cypress lasts throughout but the star is the nutmeg with a touch of soft wood. Interestingly all its notes fit within Givenchy’s Xeryus but this one is more minimalist lacking that overwhelming load of woods and florals. Ideal for the office due to its moderate trail it lasts over 12 hours (the last three more skin-close). Made in Italy it has performance that expensive brands charging 100 dollars would envy; mine with expenses came to about 15 dollars—a ridiculous price for what it delivers. Although spicy it suits almost all seasons except a very hot summer. Perfect for day and office. If you dislike florals enjoy soft spices and seek something daily with unbeatable value this is your option.
