  At first, it caught my eye: a singular blend of amber, birch, benzoin and orange that gives a citrus-amber twist, yet without being overly sweet. It reminds me of the scent of Blue Amber, that feeling of an old attic, slightly melancholic. Although leather isn’t listed in the notes, there’s something leathery about it, I suppose it’s the birch with the benzoin; the effect is very cool. It projects about a metre and a half initially, with good quality across all ingredients. Behind the main accord, there’s lavender that reinforces that vintage air and ties the notes together uniquely, plus a touch of jasmine. My partner didn’t like it, saying it smelled very strong and classic, heavy like Shalimar but even more so; however, the bursts from my neck didn’t bother me. I think it lasts longer than it projects. After three hours, it settles into a citrusy, orangey scent with the vanilla-like touch of benzoin (perhaps this contributes to the vintage effect). As it dries down, it feels even more old-fashioned, yet I’m still enjoying it; I understand this phase can be difficult and isn’t for everyone, it requires a certain tolerance. It smells like another era, not the typical ’70s/’80s classic, it smells like The Perfumer’s Apprentice, like Grenouille.
