It starts with mandarin. Then comes an excessive sweetness that I don’t like. I think it’s the labdanum with the benzoin that gives it that sweet resinous touch I can’t enjoy. More for autumn-winter, both day and night. Moderate longevity and a light trail.

If you like lightened amber and want something outside that dense oriental concept, this is a clear option. It opens with beautifully distilled citrus, typical of the house: green mandarin from Italy and Sicilian bergamot, gentle yet classy, even those most reluctant might enjoy them. Quick, almost instant, it presents as a sweet, ambered oriental fragrance with resins that add density without losing solar zest, a looseness that makes it daytime-appropriate yet solid without being a weight. The cinnamon is well-contained by the flowers and citrus, allowing us to dance. I’ve really liked it because they are summer orientals with ease, easy to wear; Atelier continues not to neglect its airy Cologne side, interpreting the volume of an oriental with modern floral touches. It’s for amber lovers who want lightness in the heat. Another hit in the cart with Atelier.

  • Looking for a substitute for my legendary Theorema, I came across Ambre Nue. It opens with a waxy, bitter orange skin note, then rises in sweetness thanks to the amber, cinnamon, and benzoin, all balanced by the smoke of labdanum. It’s quite linear; not a projection bomb, but noticeable. In cold weather, it lasts about 12 hours on skin and days on clothes. It’s not Theorema (less smoky), but it’s delicious and warm without being heavy. I see it as an oriental for Western noses: unisex and winter-appropriate, but being lighter than others, it’s not as opulent and works for informal day or night occasions. I’m furious they’ve discontinued it, especially since I already gifted it to a friend. Pleasant: 9/10 Interesting: 7/10 Versatile: 7/10 Original: 5/10
