I bought the sample for the chocolate scent and got it right, as a full bottle would have been a waste of money. The opening smells like orange-stuffed chocolate, but the cheap kind. On my skin, it lasts a minute before turning into a marshmallow palette with a greasy Cocoa coating—that synthetic chocolate taste like Ricolino or Bubulubu without strawberry. I was expecting a natural aroma of fine European chocolate or artisanal Mexican chocolate with roasted cocoa and vanilla, something delicious. There was none of that; it projects little and lasts only two or three hours. Although I’m not a fan of gourmand scents, I do love chocolate, so this proposal feels underwhelming for me. If you’re looking for real chocolate, try Al-Rehab’s Choco Musk or Montale’s Chocolate Greedy if you have the budget. I’m already hunting for the Choco Musk to see if it delivers.

  • Amour de Cacao opens with a very prominent orange note and chocolate that fades away to leave a sensation of a Chilean Kuky-style cookie with chips. I don’t detect the starfruit or that tropical touch it could have brought, and in the end, it leaves a less potent but very similar scent to Montale’s Chocolate Greedy. Its great merit is that it was released in 1993, fourteen years before Montale’s, so it deserves recognition as the origin of a standout gourmand DNA. If you’re looking for something sweet but not shouty, it’s a good option. It suits perfectly for unisex wear and cold weather. Rating: 7/10
