Coca for Men by Cofinluxe is a spicy aromatic fragrance for men. Launched in 1976, this composition was created by perfumer Jean-Pierre Grivory. Its top notes of lavender and bergamot offer a fresh, herbaceous opening. The heart reveals a combination of moss, star anise, and sandalwood, adding depth and warmth. I was lucky enough to have it in 1998. It smells musky, green, and damp with a spicy touch. It’s strong, lasts a long time, and leaves a good trail.
I bought it blind because I’m a vintage fan; that day I dipped my hand into 15 fragrances and this was the one that caught me most. I love powdery scents, and here the oakmoss rules with a super-clean camphor. The name Coca evokes that addictive, energising powder. It smells like a classic 50s or 60s barbershop, nothing like the creams of the 80s. It reminds me of a 70s film where you’re dusted with antiseptic powder after a forced bath; I’ve always loved that extreme cleanliness of Mexsana talcum for feet or body. It comes in 75ml with an integrated cap. Although it says ETD, by the potency and longevity it is an EDP. It’s a hidden gem from a cheap, brutal French brand. If you like vintage, don’t miss it.
This perfume transports me straight back to high school in the 80s, drenched in a scent that is now almost a secret. It packs the punch of the classics without borrowing a thing from them. It’s a journey into a damp undergrowth: earth, wood, wet leaves, and that old moss smelling of tar and firewood. While it might seem like a boy from back then, today it sets the rules for today’s empty launches with its spicy leather, dry leaves, and unfiltered masculinity thanks to the lavender and musk. It’s an addictive madness, fixed to the skin and seductive for hours. Wearing it is time travel.
