Cuir Amethyste by Giorgio Armani is a leather fragrance from the leather family, designed for men and women. Launched in 2005, this olfactory composition was created by perfumer Michel Almairac. The olfactory pyramid unfolds with top notes of coriander, rose, and bergamot; a heart of violet, birch, and patchouli; and a woody, sweet base blending benzoin, labdanum, and bourbon vanilla. The perfume has been awarded two FiFi Awards: Best Packaging Women's Prestige 2007 and Best Packaging Men's Prestige 2007.

Alongside Chanel Les Exclusifs, Armani with its Privé collection is in the V.I.P. category. These are my favourites; I believe each fragrance is distinct (the Confidential scents by Carolina Herrera all smell similar to me). As for Cuir Amethyste, it smells of mineral violet; I imagine a combination of violet, patchouli, and benzoin, which at times reminds me of a violet caramel with mint (I suppose that’s the patchouli). It has a moderate trail and the same longevity. I picture it on people aged 25 and up; it smells elegant and sometimes mysterious.
Exquisite perfume! It smells so elegant and different. It has a particular scent that reminds me of a box of new, perfumed coloured pencils—an intoxicating, semi-formal, and mature smell. I love it. Its projection isn’t high, but it lasts a long time on the skin.
Smoky opening, floral, with a subtle leather underneath. At times it confuses me; sometimes I feel it’s masculine and other times feminine. The quality is sublime. It’s half dark and mysterious, quite nocturnal. Elegant and mystical.
I just picked up this beauty at a great price, around $125. I adore mysterious and sublime fragrances, and this is 100% that. I applied a light dab to my wrist and it lasted 7-8 hours; I went for a run at night and suddenly there were bursts of scent, with that earthy patchouli and woody birch aroma. It feels mysterious, evoking dark and gloomy places but with superb elegance; I’d say Coppola’s Dracula would smell something like this. I love it.

To my nose, Cuir Amethyste by Armani Privé is a masterpiece. Dark, mysterious, dense, and with an original structure. It’s leather without being explicitly so; it smells more like the colour of amethyst, and achieving that is brilliant—the title sums it all up. It’s patchouli, violet, and birch. Silky from start to finish, with a citrus opening, slightly smoky, then sweet with green/metallic nuances that accompany the earthy/chocolatey patchouli. In the base, refined resins with super-soft vanilla and a leather accord that’s sometimes sharp and other times blends with the violet. I love it; it’s very original. The density and quality remind me of Tom Ford (without copying them), and it’s worth the price for that spectacular quality. Perfect for unisex, excellent performance, special occasions, and cold weather. One of the best in the Privé line. Rating: 9/10.
Look, it’s a top-tier experience. It feels serious and mysterious, just as they say. I detect the violet instantly, and it’s well-made; it doesn’t seek out notes, but the bergamot is noticeable. What I’m hoping for is that blend of birch and violet that evokes the leather of the name. In my mind, it’s deep, with a hidden power that’s scary yet intriguing. It’s nocturnal, perfect for intimate dates or for treating yourself. Although it’s unisex, I think Cuir Amethyste shines brighter on a woman who knows how to wear it. The longevity and projection are brutal. I truly recommend it.
To be honest, it’s a top-tier experience. It has a serious air, and if they call it mysterious, it’s the king of that game. From the very first second, I detect the violet, and it feels luxurious. It’s not hard to guess the ingredients, but that’s not what I’m looking for; although the bergamot is noticeable, what I really want to see is how the birch blends with that violet to create the leather scent of the name. In my mind, it smells of depth and hidden strength that’s intimidating yet makes you want to know more. It’s nocturnal, far from the light, ideal for an intimate date or personal pleasure. It’s unisex, but I think Cuir Amethyste shines more on a woman who knows how to wear it. The longevity and sillage are incredible. I’d recommend it 100%.
