  • GIRLS CAN SAY ANYTHING by ZADIG & VOLTAIRE: nothing new on the front line. It’s a ‘bookish fruity chypre’ that the brand is launching to secure its slice of the mass-market pie. Both the advert and the bottle target a young audience who hasn’t known anything else in their lives (the last decade) but extra-sweet, extra-linear, and extra-intrusive fragrances. I laugh when they water down chypres, fougères, aromatics, hesperidics, and orientals under the guise that we shouldn’t overwhelm or bother anyone today, yet they flood us with fruity chypres that are just as overwhelming. This one starts like a flamethrower of sweet-floral-fruity intensity that pushes you back. It’s neither oriental nor fougère; it’s an Extra-Sweet Fruity Floral. I don’t detect the peony, iris, or fern. I smell a very artificial floral molecule based on freesia, raspberry, and forest berries, seasoned with another equally artificial fruity note of peach, mango, and pear. The sugar reaches diabetic-coma levels with a hyperglycaemia index that goes right over the ears, thanks to Ambroxan-based sweets, vanilla, white musk, and a Willy Wonka-style red passion syrup extract. Its trail and longevity are enormous. I’d give anything to have it for Givenchy Gentleman or a Chanel pour Monsieur. This is what is meant by a youthful perfume: sparkly, cheerful, carefree, and somewhat rude. Suitable for that silly teenage age where you think you can say ‘Anything you want anywhere and anyway’, but then you realise that unless you’re a millionaire’s child, you won’t be able to keep saying it for the rest of your life.

  • The opening is an overly potent powdery slap in the face, a hit of iris that softens into a dusty aroma with vanilla and lots of tonka, finishing very musky. I like it less than its sister, Girls can Say Anything, which it resembles as it dries down. It’s heavier, less sweet and cheerful; although I enjoy powdery perfumes, this doesn’t appeal to me much. It has a soft trail and lasts 4.5 hours, just like Girls can Do Anything. It seems they tried to add maturity to the original concept, but the result feels blurred and uninteresting. Scent 4.5/10, Longevity 4.5/10, Sillage 6/10, Value for money 4/10, Versatility 6/10, Packaging 6.5/10. Would I buy it again? I didn’t purchase it.

  • The opening is a powdery slap in the face that is too potent for my taste, a hit of iris that softens into a dusty aroma with a vanilla base featuring a strong presence of tonka and a very musky base. I like it much less than its sister, Girls can Say Anything, which it resembles at times, especially as it dries down. In this case, we are dealing with a fragrance that is heavier, slightly less sweet and cheerful than, although I enjoy powdery perfumes, as this is predominantly one, I don’t like it much. It has a soft trail and a longevity on my skin of 4.5 hours, similar to Girls can Do Anything. I believe that in its creation, they attempted to add some maturity to the idea of Girls can Do Anything, but the result seemed to me to be a somewhat blurred and uninteresting perfume. Scent 4.5/10, Longevity 4.5/10, Sillage 6/10, Value for money 4/10, Versatility 6/10, Packaging 6.5/10. Would I buy it again? I didn’t purchase it.

Absolutely love it – youthful yet elegant, with no cheap strawberry notes. The notes are nearly universally successful, especially for younger crowds, and the price… oof! I appreciate that ‘easy’ fragrances exist for following trends or younger tastes. However, it’s a familiar scent (powdery vanilla iris) and pricey, haha. I got it via an exchange swap; while I adore wearing it and sniffing myself all day, I won’t be restocking it when it runs out, much to my regret. There are cheaper options in the line. On my skin, it lasts about five hours with a decent trail: noticeable if you’re close, but it doesn’t turn heads. I like the design and the scent, but the price firmly shuts the door on buying it again.

I really like this fragrance; it’s a very youthful scent but not in the mood of strawberry perfumes. It’s youthful and elegant, though it recalls others a bit. It has notes that usually please almost everyone, especially a young audience, and the price… oof! Still, I think it’s good that perfumes of this type are made, ‘easy to like’ ones aimed at a younger public or those seeking to follow a trend. As the saying goes, one man’s meat is another man’s poison, but it’s a somewhat familiar aroma (powdery vanilla iris) and it is expensive, clearly, haha. It arrived at my hands via an exchange, and the truth is that when it finishes, much to my regret, I won’t be restocking it. There are more affordable options in the line. The longevity on my skin is about five hours with a good trail. You can smell the perfume if you’re close, but it’s not a trail that turns heads as you pass. I also like the design and the aroma; when I wear it, I enjoy it immensely and spend the day sniffing myself, but the price in relation to the value makes me give a resounding no…
