Descripción
Halston 1-12 by Halston is a green aromatic fragrance for men. Launched in 1976, this composition features a vibrant combination of green notes, lemon, sour lime, galbanum, basil, bergamot and mandarin in its top notes. The heart reveals herbaceous and floral elegance with pine needles, lavender, juniper berries, carnation and jasmine. The trail settles on a warm and woody base formed by oakmoss, cedar, labdanum, musk, amber, tonka bean and vanilla.

I can’t stand it; it’s too dry, intrusive, and stifling, very unpleasant to the nose. If I had to define it in one word: horrible.
I can’t stand it; it is too dry, intrusive, suffocating, and very annoying to the olfactory system. If I could define it in one word, it would be: Horrible.
Oh, what Lalo! The description he makes of the fragrance is from HIS point of view, without considering that perhaps it doesn’t suit him well and that the taste for certain aromas is different in each person. Surely if you search, you will find a product that you like and, besides, that suits you well.
Of course, Lalo speaks from his perspective, but what suits him isn’t necessarily what suits you. Taste is very personal; surely if you search, you’ll find something that makes you feel great. Not everything has to be tailored to your measure.
I have this perfume and I have used it only a few times because at first it is very strong and lasts a few minutes with that intense pine smell, but as time goes on, that smell drops and it starts to smell clean with a very subtle sweetness where I really like it. Everything said in the previous reviews is true; perhaps due to the components from decades ago being different, but in perfumes there is something for every taste and skin. What smells very rich and delicious on other skins can be the exact opposite, and there is the magic of perfumes in common: a matter of criteria and attitude towards any fragrance.
I own it and use it sparingly because it’s very strong at first, with intense pine, but then it mellows into a clean scent with a subtle sweetness that I truly love. Others are right: the components are different now, and there are fragrances for everyone. What smells good to one person might not suit another; that’s the magic and the matter of the skin.
Halston 1-12 is the tacit representation of the aromatic philosophy of its era, a true legend of the late seventies along with its brother Z-14. It was so good that two years later the famous Polo by Ralph Lauren arrived, considered a rethinking of that fragrance; both very boreal and green. It is wonderful to find it today at a price that does not exceed two cinema tickets plus popcorn and soft drinks. This green scent, at its start, is powerful, intense, and loaded, typical of the formulas of that time, such as Worth Pour Homme (1932), with whom it shares ten notes and seems another child of that great fragrance that has given it even great-grandchildren. Once the start attenuates, we have an intense green, resinous, and floral scent that evolves slowly in an aromatic descent of about six hours, remaining boreal but not like an autumn forest (Z-14), but like a spring forest, projecting a formal and distinguished character. Its floral ensemble is very balanced, allowing executive presence and is correct for business or formal events. Being a scent that almost no one uses, it could make its way into the field of formality in a singular and creative way. It has a longevity in keeping with its era and exceeds 12 hours, where its trail is an aromatic, masculine, and Nordic scent. For me, it is a must-have in any collection, and for that price, even more so!
Halston 1-12 is not a green fragrance in the usual sense; it doesn’t smell like pine or anything typically green. It reminds me of the stem of a flower, what you smell if you make a small cut. It is a green floral. There are floral notes to give and to share, from lavender to jasmine and carnation; this mixture is what predominates, accentuated by labdanum (which sometimes gives a subtle leather touch) after the initial explosion of citrus and galbanum which lasts very little. The projection is perfect and its longevity extends for more than six hours. It is a perfect scent to feel fresh, to start the day with a clean mind and body, delicate and almost poetic, worth much more than it costs (the price is a laugh). You won’t find many people with something similar. If Z-14 is the rebellious brother with gold chains who changes partners every weekend, this 1-12 is the sensitive brother who writes verses in his room while drinking wine and listening to jazz.
Aromatic delight… one of the best I have. The opening is extremely green and hard for perhaps 15 minutes… when it reaches the middle notes, wow! a floral scent accompanied by woods, INCREDIBLE. This lotion lasts around 15 hours on my skin, reaching a trail that is sweet but very rich. A classic completely recommended for people aged 30 and over; I use it preferably at night and for going out partying, a scent that hardly anyone else could be wearing.
I agree with Bofifa: Halston 1-12 is not green but floral with a certain leather undertone and a dark, smoky base note that I identify with labdanum. It doesn’t drive me mad; I like it, but I don’t love it; it seems nice, kind, and charming, as Bofifa says with a poetic air, and I would add delicate. However, I detect a strange point that reminds me of dill. It’s not dill, but that peculiar sensation of eating Nordic sauce or marinated salmon with dill: you love it or you hate it (I detest it). I also find it feminine; it reminds me of the delicate soap boxes my mother had in the eighties, which smelled exactly like 1-12, like expensive soap. It’s interesting to try it because these old fragrances are often blamed for being stinky bombs due to ignorance, but they smell like the luxury and quality of the seventies with their own nuances. 1-12 smells just like itself. Sometimes it reminds me of Cacharel Pour Homme without resembling it; I think they are flowers worked in a solar and luminous way, transmitting being in an open field. To be from Halston (an era of hedonistic and sexy glamour) it is a kind, pleasant, and very gentle perfume. The bottle is a work of art by Elsa Peretti, organic and avant-garde. I would pay money just for the empty bottle.
I agree with Bofifa: it’s not green; it’s floral with leather and a smoky labdanum base. I like it; it’s beautiful and poetic, yet I detect a strange note, like dill—that feeling of loving or hating a Nordic sauce (I hate dill). It reminds me of my mother’s delicate soaps from the 80s, smelling of the luxury of that era. It’s not a pungent bomb; it smells like the seventies. Sometimes it recalls Cacharel pour Homme, with sunny, luminous flowers. The Elsa Peretti bottle is a work of art; I’d pay just for the empty glass.
Halston 1-12 was a blind purchase that rather confused me. It didn’t impact me as much as its brother, Z-14, whom I fell in love with instantly thanks to its explosiveness that threw me into my childhood memories… 1-12 leaves me wanting to understand it better with the feeling of ‘good, and now what?’. I admit it is a good scent, and I would rather smell it on someone else than on myself because it has something relaxing that evokes a life without stress, a walk through a field of green, wet grass after the rain. I entirely agree with Bofifa when he says it reminds me more of the stem of a flower, what you smell if you make a small cut. I wish I had been as enthusiastic about it as I was with Z-14, but I understand that both demand exclusive fidelity and I feel their tastes are incompatible.
You have to see how our perception of a perfume can change. Sometimes, all it takes is time to understand what we couldn’t grasp yesterday. This happened to me today with Halston 1-12. After keeping it for nearly two years and laughing at it, I now feel the need to try it again: what a wonder my own is, and what a wonderful reunion. I’m surprised I didn’t understand it before… how is it possible that today I feel it so kind and delicate, whereas yesterday I didn’t? Perhaps the fragrance or I have evolved, and now we recognise each other. I put it on, and it took hold of me not with force, but with the embrace and kindness of a fragrance full of virtues. I believe perfumes like this make life beautiful. They don’t seek anything; they are there like a friend you see rarely but always keep in mind. 1-12 takes me for a walk through quiet fields where I would wish to age: a house between sea and mountain with poppies, lavender, and pines where the breeze whispers. A garden with views towards the west where memories of youth burn, and a smile tells the people who made life more beautiful.
A truly singular scent, nothing like the usual offerings. It’s green, yet that exotic galbanum note makes it unique, far removed from typical pine or forest vibes. Imagine tearing fresh weeds by hand; it smells like real wilderness. It lasts well for about six hours, and while it’s a potent masculine fragrance, it doesn’t overpower. Ideal for those over 35 if you dare to go extreme.
A very singular and uncommon scent, which gives great value to the perfumery lover. It is a different green; although it contains oakmoss and pine, the predominant and exotic note is galbanum, making it unique. Its longevity is good, lasting over six hours, with moderate and invasive projection. It is completely masculine, the greenest of greens. Most smell of pine or forest; this smells of scrubland and cut brambles, imagine pulling them out by hand. It is an extreme green but of great value. For those over 35 years old.
Good for going to work; it conveys seriousness and smells clean without being intrusive. It has a quick-passing green citrus opening, then nothing, yet people seem to enjoy it. It clings to my nose, giving me that fresh green sensation. The price is unbeatable; you can’t ask for more.
A good cologne for work. It adds seriousness, smells clean, and is not offensive. It has a green citrus opening that lasts a short while and then nothing, at least for me, but people like it even though it has no great trail. I get used to it quickly and don’t notice it unless I press my nose to it, but when I do, it is fresh and green. Unbeatable price.
The scent of Halston 1-12 is wonderful. A green, clean, and soapy perfume that evokes another era but doesn’t feel out of date. I like it more than its brother Z-14 in fragrance. I don’t say the same about performance; it’s a shame that reformulations have ruined it. Now it lasts no more than 30-45 minutes and is almost entirely skin-scented. It is at an irrisory price, I suppose at the cost of its performance, though it used to last longer.
The scent is wonderful: green, clean, and soapy, evoking another era yet not feeling outdated. I prefer it to its sibling Z-14, but the longevity is a disaster following the reformulations: now it lasts only 30-45 minutes and sits almost entirely on the skin. Despite this, at a ridiculous price, it’s worth it, though it seems they sacrificed performance for that cost.
What a delight, it smells of fine vintage soap. A scent of countryside, pine, and tree bark, an exquisite smell that explains its success in the 80s. It’s not a projection bomb, only for the first 15 minutes, nor does it have great longevity in this version. I like it as much as its sister Z-14.
I read on a forum that this perfume is simply ‘nice’, nothing more. It evokes past eras and how men were when they were at their best. It smells of old soap, herbal with a sweet touch, very pleasant. I think it can still be worn without problems. Its projection is very poor, at least in my bottle, so it smells like freshly washed. I like it more than Z-14; it feels more alive and cheerful.
A nice, clean, very soapy scent, like walking in a forest after rain with wet grass and leaves. To me, it recalls Knowing by Estée Lauder or Eau du Soir by Sisley in a masculine version. It is far from the current canon, which I also like; my parents love it, not my contemporaries. Ideal for a day at home or at the gym. Pity the projection is scarce and it lasts only a sigh.
Very green and aromatic, harmonious like using a refreshing, acidic herbal soap. On hot days it makes you feel fresh and vital. It’s not easy if you don’t love vintage, but it is worth trying. Pity its poor longevity and projection, though it compensates for the price. Also, the bottle looks great in a collection.
A green, soft, and vintage delicacy. The best quality-to-price ratio I have found. In Chile, 125ml for $11 is madness. The price and quality of this Halston are incredible.
Tested thanks to the generosity of my friend Carlos Lezaun and bought immediately. A work of art ahead of its time. Created in 1976, it smells to me of the 90s. I can’t believe no one compares it to Jaipur by Boucheron, which is always one of my favourites. It is of a disturbing beauty and a painful price, an insult to its history and quality. The death of a perfume is its oblivion. If the perfumery world were fair, Halston 1-12 would be eternal and immortal.
I bought it without reading reviews and now I regret it. It doesn’t match the notes listed on the website; it’s strong and full of character. Perhaps it’s too floral, or the blend reminds me of nothing like HZ14, which I liked because it resembled the discontinued YSL Pour Homme. Don’t buy without smelling it first.
Bought it without reading reviews and I was disappointed; it doesn’t match the notes listed on the site. It’s a strong, characterful scent that I regret buying. Perhaps it’s too floral or the blend bears no resemblance to HZ14. I purchased it because it seemed similar to the discontinued YSL Pour Home. Do not buy without testing it first.
