Hermitage: A Green Spicy-Leather Oriental of the Seventies

Эрмитаж (Hermitage) by Северное сияние is a women's spicy oriental that dates from the 1970s, created by Valentina Zananyants.

The character turns on green lift against warm spice, with a firm leather note and animalic, smoky shading in the manner of a classic of its period.

Green notes, aldehydes and bergamot open the composition. The start is neat and lightly bright, keeping sweetness at bay.

Jasmine, vetiver, iris, leather and oregano shape the middle. Here the perfume is at its driest and most herbal, the tanned-leather facet well to the fore.

Patchouli, cedar, oakmoss and musk form the foundation. Wood and moss supply backbone, while musk rounds the dryness just enough.

Taken together, the result is green, warmly spiced and leathery, faithful to its era. Rated 4.12 out of 5 from 8 ratings, it holds a quiet following amongst enthusiasts.

It should suit those who favour traditional, dry leather compositions and spiced aromatic greens over contemporary sweet or fruity profiles.

A disciplined, structured survivor from the seventies, Hermitage rewards patient wearing and a liking for vintage reserve.
