  • This perfume brings back many beautiful memories, mainly: when I was little, my grandmother used to gift me this perfume. Of course, I didn’t like it then as it wasn’t the right scent for my nose at the time, but over time I got used to it. Every time I see it, nostalgia washes over me, thinking of how it connects me to my grandmother. Setting that aside, I detect a woody scent, intense yet soft at the same time; the amber and musk are noticeable. Back then, I considered it unique. It has a mysterious and unique touch, but to recall that mystery, I have to smell this perfume again. However, ‘Imari Seduction’ is more sensual and mysterious.

  • I detect notes of musk, wood, and amber. It’s a classic, durable, and economical. It smells rich and wonderful on my skin.

  • It smells of moss, wood and amber. It’s a classic, lasts all day and is cheap. On my skin, it’s delicious.

This perfume was previously called Mystery. My mum used to wear it, and now I do. It’s a strong, characterful aroma with good longevity on my skin. Although I admit that Avon perfumes used to last longer. The ones that last the longest on me are Timeless and Far Away, which I’m fascinated by; they have a musk and wood scent and are perfect for winter. A true Avon classic.

I love that talcy touch that lets the other notes shine through. It feels woody and I like that. Obviously, it’s not for teenagers, but for people aged 25 and up. I see it as perfect for a light rainy afternoon at home (here we have wood-burning heating with a fireplace), having coffee with a partner or alone. I can imagine that situation and it would be spectacular. But I can’t imagine wearing it outside the house.

I love that touch of tar that lets the other notes breathe. It smells of wood and suits me down to the ground. Clearly not for kids, but for people aged 25 and up. I can see myself wearing it perfectly on a gentle rainy afternoon, lighting the wood stove and having a coffee with my mother or on my own; it would be brilliant. Outside the house, I can’t see myself wearing it.

Imari is a perfume from my childhood. It used to be aldehydic, dusty, with an air of dried roses (not wilted). It opened with talc, then moved to wet, green garden flowers, and finally ended with the depth of a church with wood notes. It’s no mystery that Avon’s ingredients aren’t Parisian, but in the late 80s, the quality-to-price ratio was good. I don’t know what they did with it today. It’s the shadow of the old Imari: sad dust, cloyingly sweet, and flat, with a strident fixative.

  • Vintage perfumes are all the rage now. It reminds me of my mum and the 90s. Many ladies wore it, but on my mum, it smelled lovely, like books in the library, perhaps due to the wood notes.

  • I knew it as ‘Devotée’, a deep, very vintage scent. It has an incredible trail for a budget brand. My mother used to wear it, and I’d gift it to her for special occasions, ordering it by catalogue (it took a month while I saved up). It projects strongly of lily and vanilla, with a musky base. It was noticeable from metres away, and in my opinion, it was a cheap clone of Chanel No. 5.
