  • I must admit I didn’t know this house and found it alone at ECI without any pushy sales assistant. I decided to try their extensive range, unaware it was a niche brand with high prices. I sampled several and realised the house style is lugubrious and mysterious: incense-laden orientals with quality woods and ingredients. My favourite was this one, featuring incense and caramel. At first, it smelled aniseed, but then the caramel gave way to incense, and I was completely captivated. I haven’t tried Lattafa Oud Mood or Raghba, but I’m sure they are similar. The performance is providential; I sprayed it on my wrist and it soaked through my jumper sleeve. I’m not exaggerating: twelve hours later it was still distinctly detectable, and the jumper was projecting. By 24 hours it was fainter but still present. Tremendous; I haven’t seen anything like it. Neither Joop, Amen, Loewe, nor anything of that sort has achieved such a result. This Serge Lutens will soon be joining my collection. I look forward to exploring the rest of the line.

Neither like nor dislike it. Opens with a resinous, fruity note that evolves into a woody, slightly smoky trail. Cumin adds a dirty-spiced nuance, while leather lingers at the base. Caramel keeps the sweetness going in the dry-down. A sweet, woody oriental unisex with excellent performance. At times, it reminded me of Chene, but less woody and sweeter. Perfect for autumn and winter, and for evening wear. Long-lasting longevity with moderate sillage.

  • A good perfume, but it has a flaw: it seems very linear and monochordic. Combined with its excellent longevity, it can become a bit tiring if worn heavily. The scent is caramel with a hint of spice, and I believe that’s where the artemisia provides a very interesting herbal counterpoint. It’s probably the balms, I imagine, but a companion noted a sweetness similar to periwinkle and was right. I find it very balanced, neither too spicy nor too sweet.

Hello, good evening. Here is a fragrance with a lightly sweet tropical fruit opening, smoky leather, spicy, and subtle herbal notes. I also detect oud woods. In the top notes, I notice bergamot, tropical fruits, honey, frankincense, spices, wood, oud, and leather. The leather features very rich, natural caramel notes alongside resins such as tree root, cumin, and hyssop. I love it 😍. Scent 9/10, trail excellent 9/10, longevity on skin very good 8/10. Occasion and outfit: I cannot pinpoint a specific one. Extraordinary quality 9/10. Recommended age: over 40.

  • LE PARTICIPE PASSÉ: ‘Past moments surfacing in the present carry many scents’. What a gorgeous fragrance! It opens aromatic, herbaceous and slightly bitter due to the artemisia, with citrus and floral notes of bergamot, yet very camphoraceous. It then shifts into a fruity blend with a softly smoky character. Over time it warms up, becoming resinous and caramelised (balsam and caramel), but not overly sweet; it smells of strong black coffee and toasted caramel, almost burnt, balancing sweet and bitter. Cumin harmonises the amber base with animalic and spicy nuances mixed with leather. The dry-down is very warm, ambered and sensual. In my opinion, it is exquisite and works wonderfully on my skin. I would not recommend buying it blindly. In summary: it is purely oriental (resinous, warm, spiced, ambered, earthy and smoky). The longevity on my skin is excellent, over 10 hours, with moderate projection.
