Why did they add ambroxan? Why? I like it, but I can’t stand its harshness. The fragrance isn’t revolutionary: it’s fresh, citrusy, and with fruity nuances, without being strident. It would look refined and simple if they had spared that nuclear dose of ambroxan. Performance is average, good for warm weather and the office. As I say, nothing extraordinary, but for me it’s a good composition spoiled.
Shade of Lagoon is a fine flanker of the classic L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme; the scent captivated me from the very first moment. Although it isn’t particularly novel and recalls other fragrances, its smell is rich and fresh. At first it is citrusy and herbal, very cheerful and dynamic, true to the style of the original. After a few minutes it becomes more marine and the musk rises. The ambroxan is there, but it doesn’t dominate. It’s a great option for summer. I recommend it if you like Light & Blue Pour Homme Intense or the new Reversed by Hugo Boss. It lasted over 8 hours and has good presence.
If you enjoy Pedro del Hierro for men, you will adore this fragrance.
I picked this up at a good price as it’s no longer available, being a limited edition. As a fan of Issey and his summer scents (the 2010 one is brilliant), I have to say this Shade of Lagoon is a resounding NO. If ambroxan isn’t your thing, like it isn’t mine, don’t even bother: to my nose it smells cheap and nasty. That’s why it doesn’t resemble anything fresh from Issey. If you love ambroxan, ignore this review. I’m returning it or giving it away. Salu2
