  This perfume broke my heart, figuratively speaking. I was travelling in Florence in 2023 and made my obligatory stop at the Farmacia di Santa Maria Novella. I got lost in the scent of exquisite perfumes and their stunning displays, but a special zone dedicated to the ‘I Giardini Medicei’ collection caught my eye. I spent a moment there. I heard of the little-known Bizarria, ideal for summer: citrusy, with lemon and neroli, very Portofino but more natural and medicinal. I heard Mangonia, beautiful and elegant. I fell in love with Gelsomino, like squeezing the night-blooming flower in your hands; that was the one I took. And! I heard L’Iris with great enthusiasm, as I adore iris and violets, but in that glass bell of the shop… it didn’t shine, I didn’t like it. I don’t know if the cotton was dry or if I was saturated, but I didn’t like it… I was disappointed. But as I said, I bought Gelsomino and they gave me four samples, two of which were L’Iris. Back in Spain, one day playing with my miniature bottles and samples, I felt like trying something different and thought: ‘Well, today we shall see how this iris fares’. Damn it, HOW MARVELLOUS!!! It is a dance of aromas in an iris and violet garden, bright, soft, fresh and sweet, balanced, perfect, so perfect… and it suits me so well. Now I regret SO MUCH not stopping better to smell it in the shop. I like it even more than Gelsomino and I only have 5ml of the samples that I cherish to the utmost.

The special zone dedicated to the ‘I Giardini Medicei’ collection caught my eye, so I lingered there. I smelled the little-known Bizarria, ideal for summer, citrusy with lemon and neroli, very Portofino but more natural and medicinal. I tried Mangonia, beautiful and elegant, and fell in love with Gelsomino, like squeezing a night-blooming flower in your hands; that was the one I took. And! I smelled L’Iris with great enthusiasm because I adore iris and violets, but in that glass bell of the shop it didn’t shine, I didn’t like it—I don’t know if the cotton was dry or if I was already saturated—but I didn’t like it… I was disappointed. Now I regret SO MUCH not stopping properly to smell it in the shop. I like it more than Gelsomino and I only have 5ml of the samples, which I cherish to the maximum.

  Just white flowers, nothing more. The iris doesn’t appear nor is it expected. It has nothing to do with Iris by Hermès; perhaps they got confused with the old version of Iris by Santa Maria Novella.
